The MIP X-Duty Center Drive Kit is a premium drivetrain upgrade solution designed for Axial SCX10 scale crawler enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. This adjustable centre drive kit represents a significant performance and durability upgrade for your trail rig, offering the flexibility to accommodate various wheelbase configurations whilst maintaining exceptional reliability on the toughest terrain. Whether you're piloting an SCX10 Trail Honcho, Wrangler, or Cherokee, this MIP component delivers the engineering quality and precision fitment that serious RC crawler builders demand.
Centre drive systems are essential for any dedicated scale crawler looking to maximise ground clearance, reduce rotational mass, and improve overall vehicle dynamics on technical trails. The MIP X-Duty design is engineered to provide smooth power delivery, reduced drivetrain stress, and improved handling characteristics that make a real difference when tackling rocky outcrops, steep ascents, and technical rock gardens. This is a genuine upgrade path for RC enthusiasts who want to elevate their SCX10 performance and reliability beyond standard factory components.
RC car UK buyers know that quality drivetrain components from reputable manufacturers like MIP are investments in longevity and performance. This centre drive kit is perfect for weekend bashers and competitive crawlers alike, offering the adjustability to suit multiple vehicle platforms and configurations whilst maintaining the precision engineering standards that MIP is renowned for globally.
Key Features
- Adjustable Length (115–140mm) — The centre drive kit features a continuously adjustable length range from 115 millimetres to 140 millimetres, allowing you to fine-tune the wheelbase configuration of your SCX10 to match your specific build requirements, terrain preferences, and handling characteristics. This flexibility means a single kit can serve multiple vehicle platforms and configurations without requiring separate purchases.
- 5mm Hub Compatibility — Engineered with 5 millimetre hubs, this centre drive kit integrates seamlessly with the standard axle specifications found on Axial SCX10 Trail Honcho, Wrangler, and Cherokee platforms. The precision 5mm hub interface ensures zero play, consistent power delivery, and reliable engagement across all terrains and driving conditions.
- MIP Engineering Excellence — MIP (Modular Innovations in Performance) is recognised globally as a leading manufacturer of precision RC drivetrain components, and this X-Duty centre drive kit exemplifies their commitment to quality, durability, and performance. Every component is engineered to demanding specifications and tested for real-world reliability.
- Reduced Rotational Mass — By replacing heavier factory axle shafts with a centre drive configuration, you reduce the rotational mass in the drivetrain, improving acceleration response, reducing inertia-related steering lag, and enhancing the vehicle's overall agility on challenging terrain.
- Improved Ground Clearance — Centre drive systems inherently provide better ground clearance compared to traditional axle shaft configurations, a critical advantage when navigating rocky obstacles, articulating over steep terrain features, and maintaining approach and departure angles during technical crawling.
- Enhanced Durability — The MIP X-Duty design distributes drivetrain forces more evenly, reducing stress on individual components and extending the service life of your entire powertrain system, meaning fewer breakages and more time enjoying your RC crawler rather than conducting repairs.
- Verified Fitment for SCX10 Range — This kit is specifically designed and tested for compatibility with Axial SCX10 Trail Honcho, SCX10 Wrangler, and SCX10 Cherokee platforms, ensuring that installation is straightforward and fitment is precise. The model references provided represent suggested compatibility based on extensive testing.
Technical Performance
The MIP X-Duty Center Drive Kit represents a significant engineering advancement in centre drive technology for 1/10 scale crawlers. Built from premium materials and engineered with the precision tolerances that MIP is famous for, this centre drive solution delivers smooth, consistent power delivery across all terrain types and climbing angles. The adjustable length design (115–140mm) accommodates a wide range of wheelbase configurations, making this a versatile upgrade suitable for multiple vehicle platforms within the SCX10 range. The 5 millimetre hub interface provides rock-solid engagement with no play, ensuring predictable handling and reliable power transmission even under extreme loads typical of rock crawling. The centre drive configuration reduces rotational inertia compared to traditional axle shafts, resulting in improved acceleration response and more immediate steering feedback—critical advantages when navigating technical terrain. Additionally, by distributing drivetrain loads more evenly across the system, the MIP X-Duty design significantly extends component lifespan and reduces the frequency of drivetrain maintenance and repairs. This is precision engineering designed for serious RC crawler enthusiasts who demand reliability, adjustability, and performance from every component in their rig.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the MIP X-Duty Center Drive Kit compatible with my SCX10 crawler? — The kit is specifically designed for Axial SCX10 Trail Honcho, SCX10 Wrangler, and SCX10 Cherokee platforms. The 5 millimetre hub specification and adjustable 115–140 millimetre length range should accommodate these vehicles. However, we recommend verifying the exact wheelbase measurements of your specific build before purchase to confirm fitment. If you're unsure about compatibility with your particular configuration, contact our team for technical advice.
- What is a centre drive system and why would I want to upgrade to one? — A centre drive system relocates power delivery from traditional axle shafts to a centralised driveshaft arrangement. This configuration offers several advantages for RC crawlers: improved ground clearance (critical for obstacle avoidance), reduced rotational mass (improving acceleration and handling), more balanced weight distribution, and reduced stress on drivetrain components (improving durability and reducing maintenance). Serious crawler enthusiasts typically upgrade to centre drive systems as a key part of their build to maximise performance and reliability on technical terrain.
- How difficult is it to install the MIP X-Duty Center Drive Kit? — This is an intermediate-level modification requiring some mechanical knowledge and proper tools. You will need to partially disassemble your SCX10's drivetrain system to install the centre drive kit. If you're experienced with RC maintenance and upgrades, installation should be straightforward. However, if you're new to RC building and modifications, we'd recommend seeking guidance from our experienced team at RC Model Shop before attempting installation.
- What is the adjustable length range used for? — The 115–140 millimetre adjustable range allows you to customise your centre drive kit to match your specific wheelbase configuration and build preferences. Different wheelbase lengths deliver different handling characteristics and ground clearance profiles, so the ability to adjust this dimension gives you flexibility to optimise your rig's performance for your preferred terrain and driving style.
- Will this upgrade require any other modifications to my SCX10? — The MIP X-Duty Center Drive Kit is designed as a direct upgrade for compatible SCX10 platforms and should integrate with your existing setup. However, specific installation may vary depending on your current configuration, any previous upgrades you've installed, and your exact vehicle model. We recommend consulting the installation guide or contacting our technical support team if you have questions about compatibility with other aftermarket components you're running.
- What makes MIP components worth the investment? — MIP (Modular Innovations in Performance) is globally recognised as a leader in precision RC drivetrain engineering. Their components are engineered to demanding specifications, manufactured from premium materials, and tested extensively for real-world reliability. Investing in MIP upgrades typically results in improved performance, extended component lifespan, reduced maintenance requirements, and ultimately a better RC experience. Many serious crawler builders consider MIP components essential for building competitive or high-performance rigs.
