Overview

The Fastrax Mini Maxx 7075 Aluminium Steering Bar and Cranks (FTTX500B) is a premium upgrade component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand precision steering and durability from their compact RC vehicles. Whether you're running a Traxxas Mini Maxx BL-2S, Mini Rally VXL, or Mini XRT VXL-3S, this steering bar and cranks assembly represents a significant performance enhancement over standard plastic components. Built from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium, this steering system delivers the rigidity and responsiveness that competitive drivers expect, making it an essential upgrade for anyone looking to maximise their RC car's steering accuracy and reliability on UK tracks and terrain.

As an avid RC enthusiast, you understand that steering response is fundamental to lap times and overall vehicle handling. Factory plastic steering bars and cranks can flex under load, compromising precision and introducing unwanted play into the steering geometry. The Fastrax Mini Maxx 7075 Aluminium Steering Bar and Cranks eliminates this problem entirely, providing a rock-solid steering linkage that translates driver input directly to the wheels with zero delay. This is the kind of tune-up option that serious RC car UK competitors choose when they want every advantage during competitive racing or weekend bashing sessions.

Fastrax has engineered this steering assembly with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring perfect fitment and compatibility across multiple mini-scale RC platforms. The 7075 aluminium alloy is one of the strongest and most durable aluminium grades available, offering superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to standard materials. This makes the steering bar and cranks lightweight yet incredibly robust, capable of withstanding the demands of aggressive driving, precise cornering, and competitive racing environments.

Key Features

  • 7075 Aluminium Construction — This premium aerospace-grade aluminium alloy is significantly stronger and more rigid than standard plastic or lower-grade aluminium, providing superior steering precision and eliminating flex that can compromise handling and lap times during RC car racing.
  • Enhanced Steering Precision — The rigid aluminium construction ensures that steering commands are transmitted instantly and accurately to the front wheels, giving you the immediate, responsive steering feel that competitive drivers demand from their ready to run RC or race-ready setups.
  • Multi-Model Compatibility — This steering assembly is engineered to fit Traxxas Mini Maxx BL-2S (available in green, blue, black, and orange variants), Traxxas Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 (red, blue, and grey options), and Traxxas Mini XRT VXL-3S (green, orange, red, and blue versions), making it a versatile upgrade for multiple mini-scale platforms.
  • Reduced Steering Play — Unlike plastic steering bars that develop flex and play over time, the aluminium construction maintains its dimensional stability and precise steering geometry throughout extended racing sessions and heavy use, directly translating to better handling and faster lap times.
  • Lightweight Yet Durable — Aluminium's favourable strength-to-weight ratio means the steering bar and cranks add minimal unsprung weight while providing exceptional durability, helping maintain your RC car's handling balance and responsiveness.
  • Competitive Racing Grade — This is the kind of component that competitive RC drivers upgrade to when they want every advantage, whether you're racing in club competitions or simply pushing your mini-scale RC car to its limits on UK tracks.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax Mini Maxx 7075 Aluminium Steering Bar and Cranks represents the pinnacle of mini-scale steering technology. At its core, this component addresses one of the fundamental limitations of plastic steering systems: flex and compliance under load. When you're cornering at speed or making rapid steering corrections, the forces transmitted through the steering linkage can cause plastic components to deflect, introducing lag and imprecision into your steering response. The 7075 aluminium alloy used in this assembly is engineered to eliminate that problem completely. This high-strength alloy is favoured in aerospace applications precisely because of its exceptional strength and rigidity. By upgrading from standard plastic cranks and steering bar to this aluminium alternative, you're gaining direct, unfiltered steering control that makes an immediately noticeable difference in handling feel and precision. The engineering precision required to manufacture aluminium components to the exacting tolerances needed for RC steering systems ensures perfect fitment across compatible models. Whether you're piloting a Traxxas Mini Maxx BL-2S, Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200, or Mini XRT VXL-3S, the steering geometry remains perfectly calibrated. This is particularly important for competitive racing where even minute deviations in steering geometry can cost valuable fractions of a second per lap. For RC enthusiasts in the UK who take their hobby seriously, this steering upgrade is a recognised best practice for improving performance and durability. The combination of reduced steering play, enhanced precision, and superior durability means you'll notice improvements in both lap times and overall driving satisfaction from the moment you complete the installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which RC cars are compatible with the Fastrax Mini Maxx 7075 Aluminium Steering Bar and Cranks? — This steering assembly is designed for multiple Traxxas mini-scale models, including the Mini Maxx BL-2S (all colour variants: green, blue, black, and orange), the Mini Rally VXL Ford RS200 (red, blue, grey, and standard colours), and the Mini XRT VXL-3S (green, orange, red, and blue). Always verify your specific model number before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • What is 7075 aluminium and why is it used for RC steering components? — 7075 aluminium is an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy known for its exceptional strength, rigidity, and durability. It is significantly stronger than standard plastic or lower-grade aluminium, making it ideal for precision steering components where flex and play must be minimised. In RC racing applications, 7075 aluminium is a preferred material because it maintains consistent steering geometry under load and provides the responsive steering feel that competitive drivers demand.
  • Will upgrading to aluminium steering cranks and steering bar improve my lap times? — Yes, many RC drivers report measurable improvements in lap times after upgrading to aluminium steering components. The increased precision, reduced steering play, and enhanced responsiveness translate directly into better handling, allowing you to brake later, turn-in more accurately, and exit corners faster. The improvement is particularly noticeable if you're upgrading from standard plastic components that have developed flex or play over time.
  • Is this steering upgrade suitable for beginners? — While this is a high-performance upgrade component, it is suitable for RC enthusiasts of all skill levels. Beginners upgrading from a stock vehicle will benefit from improved steering feel and precision, whilst experienced drivers and competitors will appreciate the performance gains during racing. Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance knowledge, though you may want to consult your vehicle's manual or an experienced RC friend if you're new to component upgrades.
  • What is the difference between aluminium and plastic steering components? — Plastic steering bars and cranks, whilst lighter and initially less expensive, flex and bend under steering forces, introducing lag, play, and imprecision into your steering response. Aluminium components are significantly more rigid and maintain their dimensional stability even under the extreme forces experienced during competitive racing. The result is immediate, responsive steering that feels noticeably more direct and connected. Additionally, aluminium components are more durable and less prone to wear and damage over time, making them a long-term investment in your RC vehicle's performance and reliability.
  • Do I need any special tools to install the Fastrax Mini Maxx steering bar and cranks? — Installation typically requires only basic RC tools, such as hex drivers and potentially a small screwdriver set. Detailed installation instructions should be consulted to ensure proper fitment and steering geometry setup. If you're unfamiliar with steering component installation, we recommend consulting your vehicle's service manual or seeking assistance from an experienced RC technician.
