The system is built with the recognition that modern RC flying demands precision, reliability and interference-free operation. FlySky's patented AFHDS technology ensures your model stays connected in busy radio environments, while the dual antenna design maximises signal strength and range. With its backlit LCD display, 4096-step stick resolution and online firmware update capability, the FS-i6X delivers sophisticated control in a practical, user-friendly package.
Key Features
- AFHDS 2A Technology with GFSK Modulation — The Automatic Frequency Hopping Digital System (Second Generation) is FlySky's proprietary spread spectrum protocol, specially designed for all radio control models. This advanced system offers superior protection against radio interference whilst maintaining lower power consumption and highly reliable receiver sensitivity, making it one of the leading technologies in the RC market today.
- Bi-directional Communication and Telemetry — Unlike basic radio systems, the FS-i6X features full two-way data transmission between transmitter and receiver. This enables real-time telemetry feedback including temperature and altitude data from your model, whilst also supporting servo calibration and i-BUS data acquisition, giving you complete situational awareness during flight.
- Multi-channel Frequency Hopping Across 135 Channels — The system's bandwidth spans from 2.408GHz to 2.475GHz, divided intelligently across 135 individual channels. The transmitter automatically hops between 16 channels (32 for Japanese and Korean versions) during operation, dramatically reducing the risk of interference from other nearby RC systems operating on the same frequency band.
- Dual Omni-directional High-Gain Antenna Design — The transmitter features two 26mm high-efficiency omni-directional antennas that cut down on interference whilst using less power and maintaining a strong, reliable connection. This intelligent antenna design ensures consistent signal quality from all angles, crucial for aerial RC models where transmitter orientation constantly changes.
- Unique ID Recognition and Pairing System — Each FlySky transmitter and receiver pair has their own unique identification code. Once bonded together, they will only communicate with each other, completely preventing accidental cross-connection or interference from other RC systems nearby. This security feature is essential in busy flying fields.
- Exceptionally Low Power Consumption — The FS-i6X is engineered with highly sensitive, low-power components that consume as little as one tenth the power of standard FM systems. This dramatically extends battery life between charging sessions, meaning more flying time and less downtime waiting for your transmitter batteries to recharge.
- High-Resolution 4096-Step Stick Resolution — With 4096 distinct positions per control axis, the transmitter delivers smooth, precise input translation that makes a tangible difference in flight control responsiveness and smoothness. This is particularly valuable for fixed-wing aircraft where subtle control inputs are essential for efficient flying.
- Backlit LCD Display for Clear Setup and Control — The FS-i6X features an STN transflective LCD display measuring 128x64 pixels with white backlight. This allows you to configure channels, adjust trim, set up failsafe conditions and monitor system status clearly, even in bright outdoor sunlight or low-light conditions.
- Online Firmware Update Capability — The system supports wireless firmware updates via the Micro-USB port, ensuring you can benefit from future improvements and feature enhancements throughout the lifespan of your radio system without needing specialist equipment or dealer intervention.
- Six Channels with Expandable Architecture — The FS-i6X ships configured for 6 channels (throttle, aileron, elevator, rudder, plus two auxiliary channels) but is expandable to 10 channels, providing flexibility as your RC projects become more sophisticated and require additional servo control.
Technical Performance
The FS-i6X transmitter is a meticulously engineered piece of RC equipment that reflects modern digital radio system design principles. At 392 grams with dimensions of 174 x 89 x 190mm, the transmitter offers a balanced weight distribution and ergonomic grip that suits extended flying sessions. The receiver, the iA6B, is equally impressive for its compact footprint at just 47 x 26.2 x 15mm and weighs only 14.9 grams, making it ideal for weight-sensitive applications where every gram matters. The transmitter accepts four standard 1.5V AA batteries providing 6V DC power, meaning you can find replacement batteries anywhere in the UK and never be stranded without power. The receiver accepts input voltage between 4.0V and 6.5V DC, offering compatibility with a wide range of battery configurations from 1S LiPo through to traditional NiMH packs. The RF power output is less than 20dBm, compliant with CE and FCC regulations (FCC ID: N4ZFLYSKYI6X), ensuring this system is legal to operate throughout the UK and Europe. The receiver's RF sensitivity rating of -105dBm represents industry-leading performance, meaning it can pick up weak signals from great distances and maintain reliable control even when flying beyond visual line of sight. The iA6B receiver supports both the secondary-generation enhanced automatic FM digital system in 2.4G mode with GFSK encoding, providing rock-solid stability and reliability that has proven itself across tens of thousands of RC installations worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FlySky FS-i6X suitable for RC beginners in the UK? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the FS-i6X offers advanced features like telemetry and i-BUS support that appeal to experienced pilots, the transmitter itself is very user-friendly with a straightforward menu structure and clear LCD display. Mode 2 configuration (left-hand throttle) is the standard for fixed-wing aircraft and quadcopters, making it immediately familiar to most beginners. The low price point compared to competing systems like Spektrum and Futaba makes it an excellent entry point into quality radio control without breaking the bank.
- What is the RF range and how far can I fly with this system? — The FS-i6X operates across 135 channels in the 2.408–2.475GHz frequency band with less than 20dBm transmit power. The iA6B receiver's -105dBm sensitivity is excellent, providing reliable control at extended distances. However, actual range depends on terrain, antenna orientation, interference and the specific receiver installation in your model. Most users report reliable control well beyond visual line of sight, though you should always fly responsibly within sight of your model.
- Can I use the FS-i6X receiver with other FlySky transmitters? — The iA6B receiver is compatible with several other FlySky transmitters including the FS-i4, FS-i6, FS-i10, FS-GT2E and FS-GT2G. However, each transmitter and receiver pair has a unique ID, so you must perform a pairing procedure to synchronise a new transmitter with the receiver. Once paired, that transmitter will only communicate with that specific receiver, preventing interference from other systems.
- What batteries does the FS-i6X transmitter need? — The transmitter requires four standard 1.5V AA batteries, totalling 6V DC. You can use alkaline batteries for occasional flying, or rechargeable NiMH AA batteries if you fly regularly. This is a major advantage over systems requiring proprietary LiPo transmitter batteries, as you can find AA batteries in any shop across the UK and are never without power.
- Does the receiver include dual antennas? — Yes, the iA6B receiver includes two 26mm omni-directional antennas. These should be positioned at right angles to each other (typically one vertical and one horizontal) to maximise reception diversity and ensure strong signal from all model orientations during flight.
- What does bi-directional telemetry mean, and what data can I receive? — Bi-directional telemetry means the receiver can send data back to the transmitter, not just receive control signals. The FS-i6X can receive altitude data, temperature readings and other sensor information from your model through the i-BUS interface. This gives you real-time feedback during flight about your model's status and performance.
- Is the FS-i6X compatible with my existing RC model? — The FS-i6X is compatible with fixed-wing aircraft, gliders and helicopters. The iA6B receiver supports all three model types and can control up to six servos or speed controllers simultaneously. However, your model must have been designed for radio control and have suitable mounting space for the small receiver and servo connections.
- Can I update the firmware wirelessly on this system? — Yes, the FS-i6X features online firmware update capability via the Micro-USB port on the transmitter. This allows you to keep your system current with the latest features and improvements without needing to visit a dealer or use specialist equipment. Updates are available through FlySky's official support channels.
