Key Features

  • AFHDS 2A Technology — Built on FlySky's advanced AFHDS 2A protocol with GFSK modulation, this system provides superior anti-interference performance compared to older 2.4GHz systems, ensuring your aircraft remains under reliable control even in congested frequency environments where multiple RC flyers are operating simultaneously.
  • 140 Independent Channels — The 2.4GHz frequency range (2.4055–2.475GHz) has been divided into 140 separate channels, giving you enormous flexibility in frequency selection and making interference with other operators virtually impossible since each channel operates independently across the entire band.
  • Unique ID Binding System — Every FlySky FS-i4X transmitter has a unique identification code; when you bind the receiver, it saves this unique ID and will only accept signals from that specific transmitter, eliminating the risk of accidentally picking up another operator's control signal and dramatically enhancing safety.
  • High-Gain Multi-Directional Antenna — The system incorporates a high-quality, multi-directional antenna design that covers the entire frequency band, paired with a high-sensitivity receiver (rated at -105 dBm) to guarantee long-range transmission and jamming-free flight control even at considerable distances.
  • V-MIX Mixing Control System — This sophisticated mixing capability allows you to configure control inputs for a wide variety of aircraft types, including complex setups with flaperons, elevons, and other advanced control surfaces, making it compatible with aeroplanes, gliders, and helicopters.
  • DIY Channel Expansion — The system ships as a 4-channel transmitter but can be expanded up to 10 channels through DIY modification, allowing you to upgrade your radio system without purchasing an entirely new unit when your flying requirements become more demanding.
  • Automatic Single/Two-Way Mode Switching — The AFHDS 2A system intelligently switches between single-way and two-way communication modes automatically based on your flying needs, optimising performance and battery consumption without requiring manual configuration changes.
  • Built-In Error Correction — Multiple channel coding and error correction algorithms are embedded within the AFHDS 2A protocol, significantly improving communication stability, reducing transmission errors, and extending your reliable flying range.
  • Low-Power Design — The FS-i4X utilises low-power electronic components throughout, combined with sensitive receiver circuitry and intermittent RF modulation, reducing overall power consumption and extending flight times on a single set of batteries.
  • Low Voltage Warning — When transmitter battery voltage drops below 4.2V, the system provides a low voltage alarm, ensuring you're always aware of battery status and never experience unexpected signal loss due to depleted power.
  • PS2/USB Port — The transmitter features a Micro-USB (PS2) port, enabling future software updates, data logging, and expanded functionality through simple firmware upgrades rather than requiring hardware replacement.

Technical Performance

The FS-i4X transmitter weighs just 335g and measures 174 × 89 × 190mm, making it comfortable to hold for extended flying sessions without fatigue. The receiver is incredibly compact at only 13g and measures just 45 × 23 × 9mm, allowing installation in even small RC aircraft without creating balance issues. The transmitter operates on 6V DC power (requiring four AA batteries, not included) and features dual 26mm antennas that provide omnidirectional signal propagation. The stick resolution reaches 1024 levels, ensuring smooth, precise control inputs that translate directly to refined aircraft movements. The RF power output is less than 20 dBm, which is the regulatory limit for unlicenced 2.4GHz operation in most countries including the UK, and the 500 kHz bandwidth per channel provides adequate separation between adjacent frequencies. The FS-A6 receiver operates at 4.0–6.5V DC, giving you flexibility in power supply options, and can control six channels independently, making it suitable for fixed-wing aircraft, gliders, and helicopters with multiple control surfaces. The receiver's -105 dBm sensitivity rating represents professional-grade performance, equivalent to systems costing three or four times the price. Both transmitter and receiver carry CE0678 and FCC certification, confirming compliance with UK and international safety and emissions standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the FlySky FS-i4X suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aeroplanes? — Absolutely. The FS-i4X is an excellent choice for beginners entering the RC hobby. Its simple four-channel layout covers the basic control functions (throttle, rudder, elevator, and aileron) needed for most trainer-type aircraft, whilst the robust AFHDS 2A technology means you'll have stable, interference-free control even if other RC pilots are flying nearby. The ergonomic transmitter design is comfortable to use, and the logical stick configuration (Mode 1 with right-hand throttle) makes learning control inputs intuitive for UK-based pilots accustomed to this layout.
  • What batteries does the FS-i4X transmitter require? — The transmitter requires four AA batteries connected in series to provide 6V DC power. These are standard alkaline AA batteries available from any supermarket or electronics retailer, though rechargeable NiMH AA batteries are also compatible and more economical for regular flying. The transmitter is not rechargeable, meaning you cannot charge it directly via USB or the PS2 port.
  • How far will this radio system transmit? — The effective range depends on several factors including antenna orientation, environmental interference, and obstacles, but the -105 dBm receiver sensitivity combined with the high-gain multi-directional antenna design ensures reliable control at distances far exceeding what you'll typically need for recreational RC flying. Most users find the practical range to be several hundred metres in open space. The AFHDS 2A error correction ensures signal integrity even at range limits.
  • Can I expand the FS-i4X from 4 channels to 10 channels? — Yes, the system supports DIY channel expansion from the standard 4 channels up to 10 channels, allowing you to add control functions for advanced aircraft like those with flaperons, landing gear, camera gimbal control, or other auxiliary servos. This expansion requires some technical knowledge and component sourcing but is far more economical than purchasing an entirely new radio system.
  • What types of aircraft can I control with the FS-A6 receiver? — The FS-A6 receiver is compatible with fixed-wing aircraft, gliders, and helicopters. With six output channels, you can control traditional aeroplanes (throttle, ailerons, elevator, rudder plus two auxiliary functions), electric gliders, thermal ridge soaring gliders, and single or dual-rotor helicopter configurations. The V-MIX system allows sophisticated mixing for complex control surfaces like elevons on flying wings.
  • Is this radio system legal to use in the UK? — Yes, the FS-i4X is fully certified for UK operation, carrying both CE0678 and FCC certification marks. It operates in the unlicenced 2.4GHz ISM band allocated for RC use throughout the European Union and UK. You should still comply with local flying regulations (such as those set by the British Model Flying Association) regarding altitude, proximity to people, and airspace restrictions.
  • How does the unique ID binding system improve safety? — Every FS-i4X transmitter is manufactured with a unique identifier code. When you bind the FS-A6 receiver to your transmitter, it permanently learns this unique ID. The receiver will then only respond to control signals from that specific transmitter, ignoring all other transmitters operating on the same frequency. This is dramatically safer than older frequency-based systems, where turning on your transmitter in a flight field could accidentally take control of another pilot's aircraft.
  • Does the FS-i4X work with receivers from other manufacturers? — No, the FS-A6 receiver is specifically designed for FlySky's AFHDS 2A protocol. It will not work with receivers from other manufacturers like Futaba, Spektrum, or JR, as these use completely different control protocols. Similarly, other manufacturers' receivers are not compatible with the FS-i4X transmitter. You must use FlySky transmitters with FlySky receivers.
  • What's the difference between Mode 1 and other transmitter modes? — Mode 1 (supplied with this kit) is the right-hand throttle configuration, where the left stick controls throttle and rudder (up/down and left/right), whilst the right stick controls elevator and aileron. This is the standard configuration preferred by most pilots in the UK and Europe. Other modes (Mode 2, Mode 3, Mode 4) place throttle on different sticks and are regional preferences. This particular kit is fixed to Mode 1 and cannot be reconfigured.
