Overview
The Fastrax 32DP 12T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand quality and reliability in their drivetrain systems. Whether you're running a competitive off-road RC buggy, a high-speed 1/10 scale racer, or any RC car UK setup that requires a replacement pinion gear, this component delivers the performance and durability you need. Built from premium 7075 aluminium alloy, this pinion gear represents the kind of engineering excellence that separates serious RC hobbyists from casual users.
Pinion gears are critical components in any RC car transmission system, responsible for transferring power from the motor to the main gear and ultimately to the wheels. A quality pinion gear like this 12-tooth version ensures smooth power delivery, minimal friction losses, and longevity even under demanding racing conditions. The 3.2mm shaft sizing makes this gear compatible with a wide range of popular RC motors and gearbox setups, making it an essential spare part for anyone serious about maintaining and upgrading their ready to run RC vehicles or competition builds.
RC Model Shop stocks the Fastrax 32DP 12T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear as part of our comprehensive range of drivetrain components and performance upgrades. This is the kind of specification-grade component that transforms an average RC car into a finely-tuned machine capable of consistent performance lap after lap.
Key Features
- 7075 Aluminium Alloy Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from premium 7075 aluminium alloy, which is recognised in engineering circles as one of the strongest and most durable aluminium alloys available. This material choice ensures the gear can withstand the extreme stresses and shock loads generated during high-speed running and aggressive acceleration, making it far more durable than cheaper plastic or lower-grade metal alternatives. The 7075 specification means you're getting aerospace-grade durability in your RC drivetrain.
- 32DP Diametral Pitch Rating — The 32DP specification refers to the gear's diametral pitch, which defines the tooth size and spacing. This is a standard specification used across the RC hobby industry, ensuring compatibility with matching gears and motors throughout your build. The 32DP rating is widely recognised and used in 1/10 scale RC car builds, making this gear easy to match with other quality components from major manufacturers.
- 12-Tooth Configuration — The 12-tooth count makes this a mid-range pinion gear suitable for balanced performance across various motor and drivetrain combinations. A 12-tooth pinion provides a good balance between torque characteristics and top speed potential, making it versatile across different racing conditions and RC car types, from park bashers to serious competition machines.
- 3.2mm Shaft Diameter — The 3.2mm shaft is a standard sizing specification that ensures compatibility with the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in modern RC cars. This size is optimised for strength whilst maintaining compatibility with standard motor bearings and gearbox housings, eliminating the need for adapter sleeves or custom modifications.
- Precision Engineering — Each Fastrax pinion gear is precisely manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring smooth meshing with your main gear and eliminating the vibration and noise issues that can occur with poorly-manufactured alternatives. This precision manufacturing directly translates to smoother power delivery, reduced wear on transmission components, and more predictable handling characteristics in your RC car.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 32DP 12T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents serious engineering designed specifically for the demands of modern RC car racing and bashing. The choice of 7075 aluminium alloy is significant — this is an aircraft-grade material specification that offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior hardness compared to standard 6061 aluminium or plastic alternatives. Under the extreme stresses of RC car operation, where motor torque is transmitted through this single small gear, the material properties of 7075 aluminium mean the gear resists stripping, deformation, and wear far more effectively than cheaper options. The 32DP specification is an industry standard that ensures perfect meshing with corresponding main gears, and the 12-tooth count positions this gear in the sweet spot of the performance spectrum — not too aggressive for low-speed torque-focused setups, not too shallow for high-speed racing applications. The 3.2mm shaft diameter is precision-engineered to fit standard motor shafts found in leading brands including Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, Tamiya, Team Associated, Axial Racing, HPI, Mugen, and Rival platforms. Whether you're building a competitive 1/10 scale off-road buggy, setting up a brushless RC stadium truck, or maintaining an existing race kit, this pinion gear delivers the durability and performance characteristics expected from a genuine Fastrax component. The precise manufacturing tolerances mean minimal backlash in the drivetrain, translating to improved responsiveness and more consistent lap times on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one? — A pinion gear is a small gear that connects directly to your RC car's motor shaft and transfers power to the main gear in your gearbox, which then drives the wheels. The pinion gear is a wear item that gradually loses material over time due to the extreme stresses of racing, and quality replacement pinion gears like this Fastrax 32DP 12T unit are essential spares for any serious RC hobbyist. Having spare pinions on hand means you can maintain peak performance and never be sidelined by a worn drivetrain component.
- What RC cars is this pinion gear compatible with? — The 3.2mm shaft diameter and 32DP specification make this gear compatible with a wide range of 1/10 scale RC cars from manufacturers including Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, Tamiya, Team Associated, Axial Racing, HPI, Mugen, and Rival platforms. We recommend checking your specific vehicle's documentation or contacting our team at RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility with your exact model and drivetrain configuration, as different vehicles may use different gear combinations.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst pinion gears are replacement parts rather than complete vehicles, they are suitable for anyone performing their own RC maintenance and upgrades. If you already own an RC car and understand basic drivetrain maintenance, replacing a worn pinion gear is a straightforward task that any hobbyist can accomplish with basic tools. However, if you're completely new to the RC hobby, we'd recommend starting with a ready to run RC car and then learning about drivetrain components as you progress.
- What is the difference between this 12T pinion and other sizes? — Pinion gears come in different tooth counts, each affecting your car's performance characteristics. A lower tooth count (like 10T or 11T) provides more top speed but less torque, whilst a higher count (like 13T or 14T) provides more torque and acceleration but lower top speed. The 12-tooth specification is a balanced middle ground, making it versatile across different driving conditions and motor configurations — ideal for recreational bashers and competitive racers who need a single pinion that performs well across varied conditions.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear replacement frequency depends on driving style, track conditions, and maintenance practices. Competitive racers might replace pinions every few months of intense use, whilst weekend bashers might get a season or more from a single gear. Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of tooth wear, stripping, or deformation — when you notice these issues, it's time for a replacement to maintain smooth drivetrain operation and prevent damage to other transmission components.
- Why choose 7075 aluminium over other materials? — 7075 aluminium alloy is recognised as one of the strongest aluminium specifications available, offering superior hardness and wear resistance compared to standard 6061 aluminium or plastic alternatives. This means the gear resists stripping, deformation, and damage far more effectively, translating to longer service life and more consistent performance across more runs and more demanding conditions. For serious RC enthusiasts who want maximum durability from their drivetrain components, the 7075 specification is the clear choice.
