Overview

The Etronix 12AWG Silicone Wire in red is an essential component for any RC enthusiast building or repairing custom power leads and electrical connections. Whether you're setting up a new RC car UK model, upgrading your existing brushless RC truck, or tackling general electronics projects, this premium silicone-insulated wire provides the flexibility and reliability you need for professional-quality results. Measuring 100cm (approximately 1 metre) in length, this single length is perfect for creating custom leads to your exact specifications, or combining multiple sections to achieve longer runs.

Designed specifically for high-current applications typical in RC vehicles, the 12AWG gauge makes this wire ideal for power leads and extensions where robust current carrying capacity is required. The silicone insulation offers superior flexibility compared to PVC alternatives, making it significantly easier to route through tight spaces in your RC model's chassis or battery box. This is particularly valuable for RC car UK builders who need to create neat, manageable wiring harnesses that don't compromise on performance or safety.

The red colour coding follows standard electrical conventions, making it instantly recognisable as a positive power lead in your RC setup. Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor, a weekend basher, or someone discovering RC models for the first time, having quality silicone wire on hand is essential for maintaining your fleet and experimenting with custom lead configurations.

Key Features

  • 12AWG Gauge Rating — This wire gauge provides excellent current carrying capacity suitable for ESC applications and battery connections where substantial amperage flows, making it perfect for heavy-duty RC applications running 100+ amp ESCs and demanding drive systems.
  • Silicone Insulation — The silicone jacket offers superior flexibility and durability compared to standard PVC insulation, allowing the wire to bend repeatedly without cracking or becoming brittle, which is essential for RC applications where vibration and movement are constant.
  • Multi-Core Construction — The wire consists of multiple fine strands twisted together rather than a single solid conductor, providing exceptional flexibility whilst maintaining structural integrity and excellent electrical conductivity for reliable power transfer.
  • 100cm Standard Length — One metre of wire provides a practical starting point for building custom leads, allowing you to cut and terminate exactly the length you need for your specific RC model configuration.
  • Bright Red Colour — Standard red colour coding makes this immediately identifiable as a positive or hot lead in your electrical system, following universal electrical conventions and reducing the risk of incorrect polarity connections.
  • Purpose-Built for RC Motors — Specifically designed and recommended for motor leads in RC applications, where the combination of high current, flexibility requirements and temperature tolerance are critical performance factors.

Technical Performance

The Etronix 12AWG Silicone Wire represents professional-grade component engineering designed specifically for the demands of RC applications. At 12 AWG (American Wire Gauge), this conductor offers substantial cross-sectional area suitable for high-current power delivery in brushless RC systems, battery harnesses and ESC connections. The multi-core silicone construction provides exceptional flexibility whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for permanent installations in RC vehicles. The silicone insulation material demonstrates superior heat resistance and durability compared to conventional PVC jackets, making it ideal for applications where wires may experience elevated temperatures from motor windings or sustained high-current flow. According to feedback from experienced RC specialists, 12 AWG wire gauge is thoroughly adequate for heavy-duty RC applications operating with 100+ amp ESCs, providing a reliable margin of safety whilst remaining practical to work with in confined RC chassis spaces. The flexible multi-core construction makes routing this wire through your RC car's battery box, along the chassis rails, or through tight compartments significantly easier than rigid single-strand alternatives. Each 100cm section can be combined with additional lengths or cut to exact specifications for your particular RC build, whether you're creating main battery harnesses, extending leads to remote kill switches, or building custom charger adapters for your RC equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the current carrying capacity of this 12AWG silicone wire? — The 12AWG gauge provides excellent capacity for high-current RC applications. Based on expert feedback, this wire gauge is suitable for ESCs rated at 100+ amps and is appropriate for heavy-duty RC models including large brushless RC trucks, monster trucks and high-performance RC vehicles. The exact amperage capacity depends on several factors including ambient temperature, installation environment and the length of the run, but 12AWG is recognised as sufficient for most standard RC applications where flexibility and durability are paramount.
  • Is this wire suitable for my LiPo battery connections? — Yes, the 12AWG silicone wire is well-suited for LiPo battery harnesses and main power leads in RC systems. The thick gauge ensures minimal voltage drop during high-current discharge cycles, which is critical for maintaining performance in brushless RC cars and maximising your battery's output potential during racing or bashing sessions.
  • Can I use this wire for different colours in my custom harness? — The Etronix 12AWG Silicone Wire is available in multiple colours including red, black, blue, orange and yellow, allowing you to build complete colour-coded harnesses where red represents positive/hot connections and black represents negative/ground connections, following standard electrical practices for clarity and safety.
  • How flexible is silicone wire compared to PVC alternatives? — Silicone insulation offers significantly superior flexibility compared to PVC jackets, making it considerably easier to route through tight spaces, around obstacles and through compartments in your RC model's chassis. This flexibility remains constant even in cold conditions, whereas PVC can become stiff and brittle at lower temperatures, making silicone the preferred choice for year-round RC use in the UK climate.
  • What does multi-core construction mean? — Rather than using a single thick strand of copper, this wire consists of many fine strands twisted together, providing excellent flexibility whilst maintaining full electrical conductivity. This makes the wire ideal for RC applications where wires experience constant vibration, bending and movement without degrading performance or creating dangerous stress points in the copper conductor.
  • How do I terminate this wire to connectors? — The 12AWG gauge is compatible with most standard RC connectors including 4.0mm gold connectors, XT60 connectors and other industry-standard plugs. You can solder the wire directly to connectors or use crimped terminal ends for cleaner, more reliable connections depending on your preference and available tools.
  • Is this wire suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Working with quality silicone wire is one of the best practices for RC builds, and beginners particularly benefit from the flexibility and ease of handling compared to stiffer alternatives. The 100cm length provides enough material to experiment with custom lead lengths whilst learning proper soldering and connector techniques.
  • Can I use this for multiple projects? — Yes, the 100cm length allows flexible use across multiple RC projects. You might use a section for battery leads on one vehicle, another section for a custom charging harness, and additional lengths for extending existing leads or building adapter cables for your RC equipment collection.
