It's particularly valued by UK RC enthusiasts who need a portable solution that fits neatly in their toolkit and works seamlessly with their existing lithium battery setups.
Key Features
- Precision Multi-Function Design — This single device measures overall pack voltage, balances individual cells, and safely discharges batteries, eliminating the need to purchase three separate tools and saving space in your RC pit box.
- Accurate Cell Voltage Measurement — The clear digital display shows both the complete battery pack voltage and individual cell voltages in real-time, allowing you to instantly identify if any cell is underperforming or developing problems before they become critical failures.
- Balance Function Before, During, or After Charging — Unlike basic devices that only balance after charging is complete, the Battery Doctor lets you execute the balance function at any stage of the charge cycle, ensuring your pack remains in optimum condition throughout the charging process.
- Precise Cell Balancing to ±0.01V — The balance and discharge functions match individual cell voltages within an extraordinarily tight tolerance of ±0.01V, which is crucial for maintaining battery pack longevity and ensuring consistent performance across all cells in your pack.
- Safe Discharge for Storage — The discharge function safely reduces all cells in your pack to a preset storage voltage, protecting your batteries from damage caused by storage at full charge and extending their overall lifespan significantly.
- Customisable Discharge Cutoff Settings — You can set your preferred discharge cutoff voltage between 3.0V and 4.2V (with a factory pre-setting of 3.9V), giving you complete control over when the discharge process terminates based on your specific battery requirements.
- Wide Voltage Range Compatibility — Supporting 2 to 6 cell Li-Po and LiFe battery packs spanning from 7.4V through to 22.2V, this device covers virtually every standard battery configuration used in modern RC vehicles available in the UK market today.
- Receiver Battery Testing Capability — Beyond main pack management, the Battery Doctor can test receiver batteries from 1.2V to 8.5V DC, helping you verify that your receiver power source is healthy and capable of maintaining stable radio reception during flight or running sessions.
- Adjustable Balance Voltage Range — You can customise the balance voltage setting range from 2.0V to 3.9V (pre-set to 3.2V), allowing you to tailor the device's operation to match your specific battery chemistry and performance requirements.
- Continuous Real-Time Monitoring — The display continuously updates showing both whole battery and individual cell voltages, meaning you always have up-to-the-second information about your pack's condition without needing to navigate menus or wait for readings to refresh.
Technical Performance
The Etronix Battery Doctor represents a precision engineering approach to battery management. Its robust design handles the demands of serious RC enthusiasts whilst remaining compact enough to carry in any pit bag or toolkit. The device is engineered to work with both Lithium Polymer and Lithium Iron Phosphate battery chemistries, two of the most popular energy sources in RC cars, trucks, buggies, and racing applications throughout the UK. The balance function's ability to match individual cell voltages to within ±0.01V demonstrates the engineering quality built into this product — this level of precision prevents the common problem of cell voltage imbalance that can lead to premature battery failure and reduced runtime performance. The discharge voltage setting range of 3.0V to 4.2V with factory pre-setting at 3.9V is intelligently calibrated for safe battery storage, protecting your investment from the storage voltage damage that can occur if packs are left sitting at full charge for extended periods. The device requires external power input of 7.4V to 11.1V from a Li-Po or LiFe source, and features a standard JST balance connector for compatibility with the vast majority of modern RC battery packs available. The receiver battery testing function, capable of reading voltages from 1.2V to 8.5V DC, is not limited to lithium battery types, making it a genuinely versatile diagnostic tool for anyone running mixed battery setups across multiple RC models.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Etronix Battery Doctor suitable for beginners new to RC? — Yes, absolutely. While the device offers sophisticated features like customisable voltage settings and multi-stage balancing, it's equally straightforward to use for beginners. The pre-set values (3.2V balance voltage and 3.9V discharge voltage) work perfectly for standard LiPo and LiFe packs out of the box, so newcomers to RC can start using it immediately without needing to understand every adjustment option. Experienced users can then explore the customisation features as they develop their battery management knowledge.
- What types of batteries does this work with? — The Battery Doctor is specifically designed for Lithium Polymer (LiPo) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFe) batteries with 2 to 6 cells, covering standard voltages from 7.4V to 22.2V. This includes virtually all modern RC car, truck, drone, and aircraft batteries in common use. The receiver battery testing function can also check other battery types from 1.2V to 8.5V, though voltage readings for non-lithium batteries may be approximate rather than precisely accurate.
- How does the balance function help extend battery life? — Over time and through repeated charging cycles, individual cells within a battery pack can drift slightly out of voltage balance with each other. This imbalance puts stress on the lower-voltage cells, which age faster and can eventually fail. The Battery Doctor's balance function, accurate to ±0.01V, corrects these imbalances before they become problematic. By balancing before, during, or after charging, you keep all cells working evenly, which dramatically extends the overall lifespan of your battery pack — potentially adding months or years of usable life compared to packs that never receive balancing care.
- Can I use this to prepare batteries for long-term storage? — Yes, this is one of the Battery Doctor's most important functions. Storing lithium batteries at full charge damages them over time, significantly reducing their lifespan and capacity. The discharge function safely and automatically reduces all cells in your pack to your chosen storage voltage (typically 3.9V per cell, which is the factory pre-setting), protecting your investment if you're storing RC vehicles for the winter or taking a break from the hobby. You simply set your desired cutoff voltage and let the device work automatically.
- What power source do I need to operate the Battery Doctor? — The device requires external power input of 7.4V to 11.1V from a Li-Po or LiFe battery source. Most RC enthusiasts simply connect it to a spare battery pack they already own, making it a zero-additional-cost-to-operate tool once purchased. The JST balance connector is the standard connection method, which is compatible with the vast majority of modern RC batteries available in the UK.
- How accurate are the voltage readings? — The balance function matches individual cell voltages to within ±0.01V, which represents exceptional precision in the consumer RC market. This accuracy is what allows the device to identify problematic cells that are only slightly out of specification and prevent them from causing pack-wide failures. The continuous real-time display updates mean you always have current information rather than stale readings.
- Is this better than using a large charger with built-in balancing? — They serve complementary functions. A dedicated charger with integrated balancing is excellent for your regular charging workflow, but the Battery Doctor offers advantages including portability, the ability to balance at any stage (before, during, or after charging), the ability to safely discharge packs for storage, and the ability to test receiver batteries. Many serious RC enthusiasts own both — using their charger for daily charging and the Battery Doctor for maintenance, diagnosis, and storage preparation.
- Will this work with non-lithium batteries? — The device is specifically designed and calibrated for Li-Po and LiFe chemistries. The receiver battery testing function (1.2V to 8.5V) is not limited to battery type, so you can get a voltage reading from other battery types, but the reading accuracy for non-lithium batteries is not guaranteed. A lithium-specific focus means the device is optimised for the chemistry that dominates modern RC.
