Key Features
- 60-Amp Constant Current Rating — This ESC is rated for a continuous current draw of 60 amps, making it suitable for a wide range of 1/10 scale brushless motors within the specified KV limits. This sustained power delivery ensures consistent performance throughout a full battery charge cycle, whether you're racing competitively or enjoying casual bashful driving in your local park or off-road track.
- 380-Amp Burst Current Capability — The Photon 2.1W can handle peak current spikes of up to 380 amps, providing immediate throttle response and acceleration when you need it most. This burst capacity is especially valuable during hard acceleration from standstill or when recovering from obstacles, giving your brushless RC car the dynamic performance that makes driving enjoyable.
- Splashproof Construction — Weather resistance is built into this design, protecting your electronics from light rain, puddles and damp conditions commonly encountered during outdoor RC driving sessions. Whilst not fully waterproof like the later ET0129 model, the splashproof rating is more than adequate for most UK RC driving environments and casual use.
- 2-3S LiPo Battery Compatibility — The ESC supports 2S and 3S LiPo battery packs, the most common power sources in modern 1/10 scale RC cars. This compatibility covers the majority of ready-to-run and custom RC setups, making integration into existing systems straightforward. You'll also find the ESC works reliably with 5-10S NiMH and NiCd packs if you prefer traditional battery chemistry.
- Programmable via Optional Setup Card ET0107 — The Photon 2.1W can be tuned using the optional Etronix Photon setup card (available separately), allowing adjustment of ten different parameters. This programmability means you can optimise throttle response, brake strength, timing advance, acceleration curves and other critical parameters to match your motor, batteries and driving preferences without needing a computer or complicated software.
- 2-Amp 6-Volt BEC Output — The integrated Battery Elimination Circuit provides regulated 6-volt power for your receiver and servos, eliminating the need for a separate battery pack. The 2-amp capacity is sufficient for most 1/10 scale receiver and servo combinations, keeping your electrical system simple and reducing overall weight.
- 4-Pole Sensorless Brushless Motor Compatibility — This ESC is engineered to work with 4-pole sensorless brushless motors, the standard in 1/10 scale RC racing and bashing. The sensorless design means no sensor wiring is required, simplifying installation and reducing potential failure points in your RC car's electronics bay.
- Compact, Lightweight Design — Measuring just 45 x 33 x 37 millimetres without the fan and weighing only 90 grams, the Photon 2.1W fits easily into tight electronics compartments found in modern 1/10 scale RC cars. This compact footprint makes installation straightforward in buggy, truck and stadium truck platforms, and the low weight contributes to better overall vehicle handling and performance.
- Part of a Comprehensive Product Range — Etronix offers the Photon ESC in ratings from 45 amps through to 120 amps, meaning there's a controller in this proven range to suit virtually every 1/10 scale application. If you ever upgrade to a higher-powered setup, you'll know that stepping up to a more powerful Photon model will provide the same quality and ease of use.
Technical Performance
The ETRONIX PHOTON 2.1W 60AMP ESC represents a carefully engineered balance between performance, reliability and ease of use. Built to professional standards yet accessible to hobbyists at every skill level, this brushless speed controller delivers the robust engineering that has made Etronix a recognised name in the UK RC hobby. The 60-amp continuous rating combined with 380-amp burst capacity provides the power needed for genuine 1/10 scale performance, whether you're running a stock motor setup or pushing closer to the upper limits of what the ESC can handle. The materials and construction methods employed ensure longevity even in demanding applications, and the splashproof design protects critical components from moisture and dust ingress that can compromise performance over time. The 2-amp 6-volt BEC is intelligently designed to deliver stable voltage even under the high-current conditions typical of rapid acceleration and sustained high-speed running, ensuring your receiver and servos remain responsive and reliable. Installation is straightforward: the compact dimensions mean it fits into virtually all 1/10 scale RC cars, whilst the exposed connectors accept standard XT60 or similar bullet connectors (note that connectors require soldering if not pre-installed on your motor and battery leads). The optional ET0107 setup card transforms this from a simple plug-and-play ESC into a truly customisable power delivery system, allowing you to adjust parameters such as throttle curves, brake force, acceleration ramping and timing characteristics to extract maximum performance from your specific motor choice.
Motor and Battery Compatibility
When selecting the ETRONIX PHOTON 2.1W for your 1/10 scale RC setup, it's essential to match the ESC with appropriately rated motors and batteries. For 2S LiPo systems, the maximum recommended motor KV rating is 4350KV, providing a good balance of torque and top speed. If you're running a 3S LiPo system, limit your motor choice to a maximum of 2950KV to keep current draw within safe operating parameters. The ESC is not compatible with 4S LiPo batteries under any circumstances, so if you're upgrading to higher-voltage packs, you'll need a more powerful controller from the Photon range. Traditional NiMH and NiCd users can run 5 to 10 cells, which provide voltage levels equivalent to 2S or 3S LiPo systems. These compatibility guidelines exist to ensure both the ESC and your brushless motor operate reliably without thermal stress or component damage.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the ETRONIX PHOTON 2.1W 60AMP ESC suitable for beginners to RC car driving? — Yes, this ESC is beginner-friendly in many respects. It comes pre-programmed with sensible default settings that work well out of the box, and the straightforward plug-and-play installation appeals to those new to the hobby. However, the optional setup card learning curve might be steep for complete newcomers, so beginners will be fine leaving it on factory settings initially and exploring customisation as their skills develop.
- What battery does the ETRONIX PHOTON 2.1W ESC require, and what are the compatibility limits? — This ESC works with 2S or 3S LiPo batteries, or 5 to 10 cell NiMH and NiCd packs. For 2S LiPo use, pair it with brushless motors up to 4350KV, whilst 3S users should limit motors to 2950KV maximum. The ESC is not compatible with 4S LiPo at all, so if you're considering a four-cell system, you'll need a more powerful Photon model.
- Can I use a 2-pole brushless motor with this 4-pole ESC? — No, this ESC is specifically engineered for 4-pole sensorless brushless motors. Using a 2-pole motor will not work reliably and may damage the ESC. Conversely, 4-pole motors will not work in ESCs designed for 2-pole operation.
- Does the ETRONIX PHOTON 2.1W come with connectors soldered on? — No, this ESC comes without motor and battery connectors pre-soldered. You'll need to solder XT60, XT90 or equivalent connectors to the motor and battery leads yourself, or have them soldered at a local hobby shop.
