Overview

The Team Associated RC10B74 FT LTC Differential Rebuild Set Metal (AS92306) is an advanced differential upgrade engineered specifically for the RC10B74 series buggy. This is a genuine Factory Team component designed by Team Associated, one of the world's leading manufacturers of competition-grade RC buggies and off-road vehicles. If you're serious about improving your RC car UK performance and drivability, this LTC (low torque capacity) differential gear set represents a significant upgrade from standard components. Whether you're racing competitively or enjoying weekend bashing, upgrading your differential is one of the most effective ways to enhance your RC buggy's handling characteristics and overall driving experience.

New from Factory Team, these LTC gear sets are available in both metal and plastic variants, with the metal version offering superior durability and longevity. These gear sets have been specifically engineered to increase the drivability and traction of the Team Associated B74, addressing one of the most critical performance factors in off-road RC buggy racing. The innovative design features a high tooth count with smaller teeth, which allows for smoother differential action that won't lock on power — a common problem that can cause loss of traction and poor handling on circuit courses. Test drivers who have installed the new LTC gear sets report dramatically improved car control, with the vehicle tracking straight out of turns whilst allowing the car to rotate more freely in tight turns. This balance between stability and manoeuvrability is exactly what competitive drivers seek in a ready-to-race buggy setup.

As a rebuild set, this product supplies everything needed to refresh one differential with genuine Factory Team components. The metal construction ensures long-term durability even under the demands of competitive racing and heavy use. For UK RC enthusiasts looking to fine-tune their RC10B74.1 or RC10B74.1D buggy, this differential rebuild set represents an investment in performance and reliability that will pay dividends on the track or at your local RC racing club.

Key Features

  • Factory Team LTC (Low Torque Capacity) Gear Design — This proprietary design from Team Associated's racing division has been developed through extensive testing and refinement, ensuring optimal differential behaviour across a wide range of driving conditions and track surfaces.
  • High Tooth Count with Smaller Teeth — The innovative tooth design allows for smoother differential action and more refined power delivery, preventing the differential from locking under acceleration and maintaining traction in challenging conditions.
  • Straight Tracking on Corner Exit — Test drivers report that vehicles equipped with this LTC gear set track noticeably straighter when exiting corners, providing greater stability and allowing drivers to maintain higher speeds through technical sections.
  • Freer Rotation in Tight Turns — The low torque capacity design allows the car to rotate more freely during tight corner entry, improving manoeuvrability and providing drivers with better control in technical, twisty sections of the track.
  • Metal Construction — Unlike the plastic variant, this metal version offers superior durability, longevity and resistance to wear, making it the ideal choice for competitive racers and drivers who demand maximum reliability.
  • Complete Rebuild Set — Includes all gears and shims required for one complete differential, allowing you to perform a full rebuild or upgrade with genuine Factory Team components.
  • Prevents Diff Lock Under Power — The carefully engineered gear ratios and tooth profile prevent the unwanted differential lock-up that can occur with standard components, improving traction control and reducing wheel spin.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated RC10B74 FT LTC Differential Rebuild Set Metal represents the pinnacle of differential engineering for 1/10 scale off-road RC buggies. The metal gears provide superior strength and durability compared to plastic alternatives, maintaining precise tolerances even after repeated use and offering extended service life. The high tooth count design is mathematically optimised to provide smoother engagement between internal and external gears, reducing noise and vibration whilst improving overall smoothness of operation. This differential is engineered to work seamlessly with the RC10B74.1 and RC10B74.1D platforms, both of which are competition-grade 1/10 scale 4WD off-road buggies. The LTC characteristic means this differential has a lower engagement threshold, which prevents it from locking up during aggressive acceleration — a critical feature for maintaining traction on loose surfaces such as dirt, clay and carpet racing venues. The gears and shims supplied in this set have been precision-manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth operation and long-term reliability. For optimal performance, Team Associated recommends carefully selecting differential fluid viscosity based on your racing surface: for dirt and clay surfaces, use 15,000 centistoke fluid in the front differential, 200,000 centistoke in the centre differential and 10,000 centistoke in the rear differential; for carpet and artificial turf surfaces, use 20,000 centistoke in the front and 15,000 centistoke in the rear. This attention to differential tuning is what separates serious competitive RC racers from casual enthusiasts.

What's in the Box

  • Factory Team LTC differential gears (metal construction)
  • Differential shims for correct clearance and engagement
  • Complete component set for one differential rebuild

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the metal and plastic LTC differential sets? — The metal variant (AS92306) offers superior durability and longevity compared to the plastic version (AS92307). Metal gears are more resistant to wear and can withstand higher loads and more frequent use, making them the preferred choice for competitive racers and drivers who use their RC buggies regularly. Plastic variants are more affordable and suitable for casual users or those just starting with RC cars in the UK.
  • Will this differential set work with my RC10B74.1D? — Yes, this set is fully compatible with both the RC10B74.1 and RC10B74.1D variants. The dimensional specifications are identical, and installation follows the same procedure for both models.
  • What does LTC (Low Torque Capacity) actually mean? — LTC refers to the torque at which the differential begins to engage and distribute power between wheels. A low torque capacity differential engages at lower torque values, which prevents the differential from locking up during hard acceleration. This provides better traction control and more predictable handling, particularly on loose surfaces like dirt and clay.
  • Why do I need to change the differential fluid viscosity for different track surfaces? — Differential fluid viscosity directly affects how quickly the differential engages and disengages. On dirt and clay, you generally want faster engagement for better traction, so lower viscosity fluids are recommended. On carpet and artificial surfaces, slightly higher front differential viscosity helps with stability. Team Associated provides specific recommendations to optimise handling for each surface type.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a genuine Factory Team component suitable for all skill levels, differential tuning is an advanced topic. Beginners should have basic RC car UK maintenance knowledge and ideally some experience with differential work, or should seek guidance from experienced RC enthusiasts or their local RC hobby shop when installing this set.
  • How often should I rebuild my differential? — This depends on usage frequency and intensity. Competitive racers might rebuild differentials every few months, whilst casual users might do so annually. Inspect your differential regularly for wear, and rebuild when you notice reduced smoothness, increased noise, or changes in handling characteristics.
  • Which differential oils should I use with this set? — Team Associated recommends specific oils for different surfaces. For dirt and clay: AS5447 (15,000 cSt) front, AS5461 (200,000 cSt) centre, AS5455 (10,000 cSt) rear. For carpet and astro turf: AS5456 (20,000 cSt) front, AS5447 (15,000 cSt) rear. Always use quality differential fluids designed for RC vehicles.
