Overview

Step back in time to the golden era of RC racing with the RC10T Classic, a faithful recreation of the iconic RC10T from 1991. This is more than just another RC truck kit — it's a genuine tribute to one of the most significant vehicles in off-road racing history. As an electric 1/10 scale 2WD stadium truck, the RC10T Classic captures the essence, spirit and performance that made the original RC10T a legend on the track. Whether you're a seasoned RC enthusiast looking for a piece of history, or a collector and builder seeking an authentic vintage racing experience, this limited edition kit delivers championship-winning engineering in a format that demands respect and skill.

Team Associated, the manufacturer behind nine World Champions in RC racing, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with this special re-release. The RC10T Classic isn't a simplified conversion or compromise design — it's a purpose-built machine developed by the same winning engineering that proved itself in competition. This is a kit for serious RC modellers who appreciate quality construction, authentic period-correct details, and the satisfaction of building and tuning a genuine race truck. If you're searching for quality RC cars UK or a competitive 2WD stadium truck that combines nostalgic appeal with genuine racing credentials, the RC10T Classic stands alone.

The RC10T made its legendary debut at the 1991 Florida Winter Championships, where it finished first and second against a field of 450 entries — a remarkable achievement for a brand-new design. This re-release faithfully recreates that winning truck, complete with the famously banned narrow front tyres that were deemed an unfair advantage after the original victories. The black-anodised aluminium tub chassis features a laser-etched RC10T logo and pays homage to the original design that captured the hearts of RC enthusiasts worldwide.

Key Features

  • Stealth A.T.C. Transmission — At the heart of the RC10T Classic lies the legendary Stealth transmission, the secret weapon that dominated the racing scene from 1989 to 1991. Renowned for its unparalleled efficiency and seamless power delivery, this high-efficiency transmission ensures lightning-fast acceleration and precise control, delivering explosive performance even with stock class motors and batteries. This is what gave the original RC10T its competitive edge and it remains as effective today.
  • Black-Anodised Aluminium Tub Chassis — The monocoque tub chassis is precision-engineered from black-anodised aluminium with a laser-etched RC10T logo, providing the perfect balance of strength and agility. This timeless design allows drivers to tackle any terrain with confidence and precision, and its lightweight construction is critical to the truck's responsive handling characteristics.
  • Widened Track for Maximum Cornering Speed — Unlike other truck and RC10 conversion kits, no compromises were made with the RC10T. The front and rear track were widened significantly to optimise cornering speeds and stability, allowing you to maintain higher velocities through turns. This feature was developed working closely with ROAR (Radio Operated Auto Racing) specifications for offroad truck racing and represents genuine race-proven engineering.
  • Lengthened Wheelbase for High-Speed Stability — The RC10T features a long wheelbase (284.5mm/11.2 inches) combined with a special narrow bulkhead that improves high-speed stability dramatically. This extended wheelbase reduces pitch during acceleration and braking, keeping the truck planted and predictable even at maximum velocity.
  • Top-Loading Gold-Anodised Racing Shocks — The full race shocks are gold-anodised and feature top-loading design for easy adjustment and maintenance. These are genuine competition-grade shocks with long travel capability, allowing the suspension to compress and extend fully over rough terrain whilst maintaining control. The shock tower design was critical to coping with the larger tyres and longer suspension travel.
  • Long-Travel Fibreglass Rear Shock Tower — The rear shock tower is constructed from fibreglass and engineered for extended suspension travel, giving the RC10T the ability to absorb impacts and maintain traction over aggressive terrain. This long-travel design is essential for stadium truck racing where the terrain is uneven and challenging.
  • Anti-Plough Nylon Front Bumper — The front bumper is moulded from anti-plough nylon to prevent the truck from digging into soft soil or rough surfaces during aggressive driving. This protects the chassis and maintains consistent handling characteristics across different surfaces and track conditions.
  • Famously Banned Narrow Front Tyres — This re-release includes the original narrow front tyres paired with standard wide rear tyres, recreating the iconic look of the 1991 championship-winning prototypes. After Cliff Lett and Butch Kloebber's victories at the Florida Winter Championships, these narrow front tyres were deemed an unfair advantage and banned from future professional racing — but here they're authentically replicated as a tribute to that historic moment.
  • Standard Wide Rear Tyres — The rear tyres are wide-profile truck racing wheels developed specifically for the RC10T, providing excellent traction and stability during cornering and acceleration. These are lightweight 3-piece modular design wheels moulded perfectly concentric in virgin nylon.
  • Three-Piece Modular Truck Class Wheels — All wheels are constructed as lightweight, 3-piece modular designs moulded in virgin nylon with perfect concentricity. This design allows for easy customisation and provides the rigidity needed for high-speed racing whilst maintaining minimal rotating mass.
  • Super Wide Track Rear Suspension Arms — The rear suspension arms feature Team Associated's 3-piece truck class design with a super-wide track, maximising stability during hard cornering and aggressive manoeuvres. These are precision-moulded from virgin nylon and reinforced to be exceptionally strong yet very light.
  • Four-Wheel Independent Suspension — The RC10T features a true four-wheel independent suspension system with shocks, towers and arms specifically designed for truck racing. This suspension geometry allows for extremely long travel at all four wheels, ensuring consistent traction and control across varied terrain.
  • Olite Bushings Throughout — The suspension uses durable Olite bushings throughout the design, providing smooth articulation without the friction of traditional plastic bushings. These bushings are self-lubricating and engineered to withstand the demanding loads of competitive racing.
  • Precision-Moulded Suspension Arms — All suspension arms are precision-moulded from virgin nylon and reinforced to be exceptionally strong whilst remaining very light. These arms are engineered to the exact geometry specified by ROAR truck racing regulations, ensuring optimal handling and response.
  • Clear Lexan Body with Shock Tower Protection — The vacuum-formed clear Lexan body is both low and lightweight, protecting the shock towers from impact whilst maintaining minimal weight. The body design is an integral part of the winning combination, carefully engineered alongside the chassis and suspension.
  • 2.25:1 Internal Gear Ratio — The transmission features a 2.25:1 internal gear ratio optimised for off-road truck racing, providing the right balance between acceleration and top speed for stadium racing applications.
  • Limited Edition Collectible Status — This is officially designated as a limited edition release celebrating Team Associated's 60th anniversary. It's not just a model — it's a piece of RC racing history, a journey back to the period when RC racing was at its peak.

Technical Performance

The RC10T Classic is engineered as a genuine race truck, not a simplified leisure model. With its high-efficiency Stealth transmission, lightweight chassis and long-travel suspension, the truck delivers explosive performance that demands respect. The chassis is constructed from black-anodised aluminium, a material choice that provides exceptional strength-to-weight ratio critical for competitive racing. The four-wheel independent suspension with full-travel capability allows the truck to maintain consistent traction over rough, uneven terrain whilst the widened track and extended wheelbase provide the high-speed stability necessary for rapid cornering. The shock system features gold-anodised, top-loading racing shocks that can be adjusted to match track conditions and driving style. The vacuum-formed Lexan body is designed to protect the chassis and shock towers without adding unnecessary weight. With its 1:10 scale size (396.7mm length × 317.5mm width × 284.5mm wheelbase), the RC10T Classic is perfectly proportioned for stadium racing venues. The truck is supplied as a kit requiring full assembly, meaning you'll need to source a 540-size 1/10 scale electric motor, an electronic speed control (ESC) rated for 1/10 trucks, a 6-cell NiMH or 2S LiPo battery pack, a 2-channel radio system with surface transmitter, a steering servo, and a 2-channel receiver. The transmission's 2.25:1 gear ratio is optimised for offroad truck racing, delivering the balance of power and speed demanded by competitive drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RC10T Classic kit suitable for beginners? — The RC10T Classic is not recommended for complete beginners to RC modelling. As a kit vehicle, it requires full assembly including suspension setup, gear installation, and careful adjustment to achieve competitive performance. However, if you have RC building experience and are interested in learning about genuine racing truck setup and tuning, this kit offers an excellent educational platform. The availability of extensive setup documentation and spare parts means you can learn proper maintenance techniques.
  • What is the difference between the RC10T Classic and a modern stadium truck? — The RC10T Classic is a faithful recreation of a 1991 racing truck, featuring period-correct details including the famously banned narrow front tyres that were outlawed after the original championships. Modern stadium trucks feature significantly different suspension geometry, materials and electronics. The RC10T Classic prioritises authenticity and historical accuracy over contemporary performance levels, making it ideal for collectors, vintage racing enthusiasts, and drivers interested in understanding how RC truck racing has evolved over three decades.
  • What battery does the RC10T Classic need? — The RC10T Classic requires either a 6-cell NiMH battery pack or a 2S LiPo (lithium polymer) battery. You'll need to select your specific battery capacity based on desired runtime and power delivery characteristics. A 6-cell NiMH pack provides approximately 7.2 volts, whilst a 2S LiPo provides 7.4 volts nominal (8.4 volts fully charged). You'll also need a compatible battery charger for your chosen battery chemistry. Many UK RC retailers stock batteries and chargers suitable for 1/10 scale electric vehicles.
  • Why are the narrow front tyres famous and what is their history? — The narrow front tyres became famous when the RC10T debuted at the 1991 Florida Winter Championships, where it achieved first and second place finishes against a field of 450 entries. The narrow front tyres provided a significant advantage, reducing rolling resistance and improving cornering speed. However, after Cliff Lett's first-place and Butch Kloebber's second-place victories, the narrow front tyres were deemed an unfair advantage and subsequently banned from all future top-level professional racing events. This re-release includes these historically significant narrow tyres to authentically replicate the original championship-winning look and celebrate that pivotal moment in RC history.
  • What motor and ESC specifications should I use? — The RC10T Classic is designed for 1/10 scale 540-size electric motors paired with a 1/10 scale electronic speed control. Stock class racing typically uses brushed motors with modest power ratings, though the truck can accommodate stronger brushless setups depending on local regulations. You should verify current ROAR truck racing specifications if you plan to compete, as different classes may have specific restrictions on motor and ESC specifications.
  • How long does the RC10T Classic take to assemble? — Assembly time varies depending on your experience level and the thoroughness of your setup. Expect several hours minimum for a complete build, including chassis assembly, suspension installation, shock tuning, and body preparation. The comprehensive instruction manual and setup documentation provided will guide you through each stage. Many experienced modellers find the building process to be one of the most rewarding aspects of kit ownership, allowing full customisation to match your driving style and track conditions.
  • What is the wheelbase and overall size? — The RC10T Classic measures 396.7mm (15.62 inches) in length, 317.5mm (12.5 inches) in width, and features a 284.5mm (11.2 inches) wheelbase. This 1/10 scale proportioning is standard for off-road truck racing and allows the RC10T to compete on most stadium racing tracks and off-road courses.
  • Is this a 2WD or 4WD truck? — The RC10T Classic is a 2WD (two-wheel drive) truck, with power delivered exclusively to the rear wheels. This is the correct configuration for off-road stadium truck racing and represents the original 1991 design specification. The 2WD layout allows for the responsive handling and precise weight transfer that defines truck-class racing.
  • What spare parts are available for the RC10T Classic? — Team Associated provides an extensive range of spare and option parts for the RC10T, including replacement shocks, transmission components, suspension arms, wheels and tyres, body shells, bearings, and numerous smaller components. The manufacturer page lists dozens of compatible parts, and authorised UK RC retailers like RC Model Shop stock these items.
