Overview

The Team Associated TC8 Steel Spec Team Kit (AS30142) represents a revolutionary ground-up redesign of the modern 1/10 scale 4WD electric touring car. Engineered by Area-51's talented team of designers and engineers, this competition-focused chassis ushers in a new era of on-road dominance for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're competing at the highest levels or pushing your skills on your local track, the RC10TC8 is built from the ground up to conquer the ever-intensifying world of competitive touring car racing. This isn't merely an evolution of existing designs — it's a complete reimagining of what's possible in 1/10 touring car performance.

The TC8 Steel Spec variant specifically features a low centre of gravity steel-spec chassis, perfectly optimised for high-grip track surfaces. The entire platform offers unprecedented tuning capabilities and an unparalleled connection to the track, regardless of conditions. Every component works in perfect harmony, from the high-capacity differential to the ultra-short shocks, delivering the performance you need to win without sacrificing durability, ease of maintenance, or affordability. This is an RC car UK enthusiasts have been waiting for — a platform that rewards precision driving and meticulous tuning whilst remaining accessible to dedicated hobbyists.

If you're serious about touring car racing and want a brushless 4WD RC car that offers genuine competitive advantage, the TC8 Steel Spec team kit provides a winning foundation. Assembly and painting are required, and you'll need to source a motor, ESC, servo, receiver, battery, tyres, wheels and body separately — but this kit approach allows you to customise every aspect of your build to match your exact driving style and track conditions.

Key Features

  • Mid-Motor Configuration with Symmetrical Belts — The mid-motor layout with symmetrical belt drive ensures consistent power delivery and balanced performance across all driving conditions, eliminating the handling inconsistencies found in traditional rear-motor designs and promoting efficient, balanced power delivery throughout acceleration and cornering.
  • Split Top Deck Design — The innovative split top deck lets you fine-tune chassis flex characteristics for enhanced handling, allowing you to optimise the flex to suit your specific track and driving style by adjusting the top deck components.
  • Centralised Ultra-Short Shock Design — The centralised ultra-short shock design enhances cornering speed and promotes ideal weight distribution, keeping the centre of gravity as low as possible whilst maintaining responsive suspension geometry that reacts instantly to track input.
  • Long-Arm Pivot Ball Suspension Geometry — The long-arm pivot ball suspension geometry provides superior grip and predictable handling across diverse track conditions, delivering a planted yet highly responsive feel with intuitive weight transfer during cornering manoeuvres.
  • Adjustable KPI Steering Blocks — KPI (King Pin Inclination) steering blocks are fully adjustable, enabling precise tuning of steering feel and response to match your driving preferences and track characteristics, from maximum lock to subtle mid-speed adjustments.
  • Floating One-Piece Servo and Bell Crank Mount — This advanced mounting system maximises responsiveness and optimises chassis flex characteristics, preserving steering precision without compromising the overall flex characteristics that define modern touring car handling.
  • TC8 Steel-Spec Chassis — The steel-spec chassis lowers the centre of gravity and optimises chassis flex specifically for high-grip surfaces, providing the planted, predictable handling characteristics demanded by competitive drivers on premium track surfaces.
  • Pillow Ball Lower Arm Design — The pillow ball lower arm design facilitates easy track width adjustments, allowing you to quickly dial in the perfect setup without requiring complete suspension rebuilds or specialist tools.
  • DCV Drive Shafts Front and Rear — DCV (Double Cardan Velocity) drive shafts are fitted both front and rear to maximise cornering efficiency and maintain consistent power delivery through extreme steering angles and high-speed direction changes.
  • Flexible TPU Front Bumper — The flexible thermoplastic polyurethane front bumper enhances durability and provides impact resistance, protecting the chassis and suspension components during crashes whilst maintaining structural flexibility.
  • Horizontal Rear Body Mount — The horizontal rear body mount is optimised for modern lightweight polycarbonate shells, improving aerodynamic efficiency and compatibility with the latest 1/10 touring car bodies available.
  • High-Volume Rear Differential — The high-volume rear differential delivers consistent performance and extended run times, maintaining power delivery across the full battery discharge cycle and in varying track temperatures.
  • Wide Range of Differential Height Adjustment — The differential mount features a wide range of height adjustment, allowing you to optimise dog bone bind and manage traction characteristics across different grip levels and track surfaces.
  • Floating Fan and Receiver Mount — The floating fan and receiver mount maintains consistent chassis flex characteristics, ensuring that cooling and electronics mounting doesn't compromise the carefully engineered suspension flex that defines the TC8's handling.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated TC8 Steel Spec is engineered for competitive on-road touring car racing at the highest levels. At 1/10 scale, this 4WD electric chassis features a mid-motor layout with 1.90:1 internal gear ratio, delivering balanced power delivery and efficient energy use across the full range of track speeds. The low centre of gravity steel-spec chassis combined with the long-arm pivot ball suspension geometry creates a touring car that is both exceptionally planted through high-speed corners and incredibly responsive to steering inputs. The centralised ultra-short shock design promotes ideal weight distribution, whilst the adjustable KPI steering blocks allow you to fine-tune every aspect of directional response. Construction materials and engineering throughout prioritise both durability and tuning range — the split top deck allows adjustment of chassis flex, the pillow ball lower arms enable quick track width changes, and the wide range of differential height adjustment optimises dog bone bind for varying grip levels. The horizontal rear body mount is designed for use with modern lightweight polycarbonate 1/10 touring car bodies. This is a kit requiring full assembly by the user, and you'll need to source a motor, ESC, servo, transmitter and receiver, a 7.4–7.6 V 2S LiPo battery, tyres, wheels and a body separately. The TC8 Steel Spec chassis measures 360 mm in length, with width, wheelbase and overall weight varying depending on your specific component selection and battery configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Associated TC8 Steel Spec suitable for beginners in RC touring cars? — The TC8 is a competition-focused kit designed for serious racing and experienced builders. It requires complete assembly by the user and has an extensive tuning range suited to drivers who understand suspension geometry and want to fine-tune every aspect of their setup. If you're new to RC touring cars, you may find a ready-to-run (RTR) option more immediately accessible, though the TC8's design philosophy of balanced performance and durability makes it a platform you can grow into as your skills develop.
  • What battery does the TC8 Steel Spec need? — The chassis is compatible with 7.4V–7.6V 2S LiPo batteries, which are the standard power source for 1/10 electric touring cars. A 2S LiPo provides the voltage and current characteristics needed to power brushless motor and ESC combinations suitable for competitive on-road racing.
  • What makes the TC8 Steel Spec different from other touring cars? — The TC8 represents an entirely new geometry and engineering approach from Team Associated. The combination of mid-motor layout, long-arm pivot ball suspension, centralised ultra-short shocks, adjustable KPI steering, and the steel-spec low centre of gravity chassis create a platform that's uniquely suited to high-grip tracks. The split top deck allows fine-tuning of chassis flex, whilst the floating servo mount and bell crank assembly preserve steering precision without compromising the overall flex characteristics. The wide range of adjustment available across differential height, track width, and suspension geometry gives drivers unprecedented tuning capability.
  • Does the TC8 come fully assembled? — No, the TC8 Steel Spec Team Kit is supplied as a chassis kit requiring full assembly by the user. You'll need to assemble the frame, suspension, drivetrain and all mechanical components, as well as paint and decal the body. This kit approach allows you to customise every aspect of your build and understand the mechanical fundamentals of your touring car.
  • What is the 1.90:1 internal gear ratio? — The 1.90:1 internal gear ratio determines the relationship between motor speed and final drive speed. This ratio is balanced for touring car racing, providing adequate top speed with good acceleration response. You can further customise overall gearing by selecting different pinion gear sizes to suit your specific track and driving preferences.
  • Can I use the TC8 on low-grip tracks? — The TC8 Steel Spec is specifically optimised for high-grip surfaces. Team Associated also offers a TC8 Graphite-Spec carbon fibre chassis variant designed to maximise flex on lower-grip surfaces. If you primarily race on lower-grip tracks, the Graphite-Spec variant may be more suitable, though the steel-spec chassis' extensive tuning range allows some adjustment for varying conditions.
  • What tools and experience do I need to assemble this kit? — You'll need basic RC building tools including hex drivers, screwdrivers, tweezers and a working knowledge of RC chassis assembly. Familiarity with 1/10 touring car construction is helpful, though comprehensive instruction materials should guide you through the build process. Many RC clubs and hobby shops offer assembly support if you're uncertain about any stage of construction.
