Overview
The RC Overhaul Fr & Rr Axle Counterweight set is a precision brass weighting solution designed specifically for 1/8 scale Gilamon RC buggies. Whether you're fine-tuning your RC car UK setup for optimal handling characteristics or looking to improve weight distribution on your trail buggy, these counterweights offer a straightforward and effective way to enhance performance. Supplied as a pack of four brass pieces, this component is engineered for use on both front and rear axles, giving you complete flexibility in how you balance your chassis.
For RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision engineering and reliable performance from their ready to run RC vehicles, the RC Overhaul counterweight set represents genuine quality engineering at an accessible price point. Brass construction provides the density needed to add meaningful mass directly at the axle location, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's handling without compromising structural integrity. This is the kind of upgrade that separates weekend bashers from serious RC competitors, and it's an investment that pays dividends in improved cornering, stability, and overall driving dynamics.
As part of RC Overhaul's comprehensive spares and tune-ups range, these counterweights come with clear branding and part number identification, making them easy to identify during maintenance sessions or when matching replacement spares. Whether you're building from scratch or optimising an existing setup, the G-RCO-AX039 is a trusted choice among 1/8 scale RC enthusiasts who understand that proper weight distribution is fundamental to unlocking your buggy's true potential.
Key Features
- Brass Construction — The use of brass material provides superior density compared to lighter alternatives, allowing you to place meaningful additional mass directly at the axle location where it matters most for handling characteristics and weight distribution on your RC car.
- Four-Piece Pack — Supplied as a complete set of four counterweights, giving you the option to distribute weighting across front and rear axles according to your specific setup preferences and driving style requirements.
- Front and Rear Compatibility — Designed for use on both the front and rear axles of your 1/8 Gilamon platform, offering complete flexibility in how you configure your chassis weight distribution for optimal performance.
- Clear Identification — Features prominent RC Overhaul branding and the part number G-RCO-AX039 printed directly on the components, making them instantly recognisable during maintenance and when sourcing matching replacement spares.
- Precision Engineering — Manufactured to exacting standards by RC Overhaul, a recognised brand within the RC hobby community known for quality components that deliver reliable performance season after season.
- Direct Axle Mounting — Designed to mount directly at the axle location, placing weight precisely where it affects handling balance, turning response, and overall chassis stability in alignment with modern RC buggy setup philosophy.
Technical Performance
The RC Overhaul Fr & Rr Axle Counterweight set delivers the weight placement precision that serious RC competitors demand. By utilising brass as the construction material, these counterweights provide the density necessary to make a meaningful difference in your vehicle's weight distribution without adding bulk or compromising chassis geometry. The four-piece configuration allows you to tailor your front-to-rear weight balance in increments, giving you granular control over how your 1/8 scale RC buggy responds through corners, accelerates out of turns, and maintains stability during high-speed runs. For 1/8 scale RC enthusiasts who have invested in platforms like the Axial AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4X4 RTR brushed trail buggy, these counterweights represent a meaningful upgrade path that costs considerably less than alternative chassis modifications whilst delivering measurable improvements in handling characteristics. The direct axle mounting point ensures that weight is positioned in the optimal location for affecting vehicle dynamics, rather than being mounted elsewhere on the chassis where its effect would be diluted or unpredictable. When used as part of a comprehensive setup strategy—perhaps alongside suspension tuning, tyre pressure adjustments, and other fine-tuning measures—these brass counterweights become an essential tool in your RC setup arsenal.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is an axle counterweight and why would I need one for my RC buggy? — An axle counterweight is a brass component that mounts directly at your vehicle's axle to add controlled mass in specific locations. You would need one to fine-tune your RC buggy's weight distribution, which directly affects handling balance, cornering stability, and how the vehicle responds to acceleration and braking. Proper weight distribution is a fundamental principle of RC vehicle setup that separates well-handling machines from those that feel unpredictable or unstable.
- Will these counterweights fit my RC car? — These counterweights are specifically designed for 1/8 scale Gilamon platforms, including the Axial AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4X4 RTR brushed trail buggy models. If you own a Gilamon-based vehicle, these will fit correctly. For other platforms, any fitment should be treated as suggested compatibility only, so we recommend checking your vehicle's specifications before ordering if you're unsure.
- How much weight do these add to my vehicle? — The source does not provide the exact weight specification for individual counterweights. However, brass is a dense material, meaning even small-volume components add meaningful mass. We recommend contacting our team at RC Model Shop for specific weight figures if this is a critical factor in your setup calculations.
- Can I use all four counterweights on just the front or rear axle? — Yes, the four-piece pack gives you complete flexibility in how you distribute the counterweights. You could use all four on one axle, split them evenly front and rear, or configure them according to your specific setup needs and handling preferences. This flexibility is one of the key advantages of the pack-of-four design.
- Are these counterweights suitable for beginners? — Whilst counterweights are a beginner-friendly upgrade in terms of installation complexity, they are more commonly used by intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts who have the knowledge to understand weight distribution principles and how to evaluate their effects on vehicle handling. Beginners should focus on mastering basic driving skills and understanding fundamental setup adjustments before moving to precision tuning tools like these.
- How do I install these counterweights on my Gilamon? — The source does not provide detailed installation instructions. We recommend consulting your vehicle's manual or contacting the RC Model Shop team for step-by-step guidance on proper mounting of these components, as correct installation is crucial for achieving the desired handling improvements.
