Axial 1/30 SCX30 Ford Bronco 4X4 Rock Crawler RTR Overview

When developing the SCX30 RC crawler platform, the Axial team had two main goals in mind - to make it small and to make it high-performance. Consider both missions accomplished. At 1/30 scale, the Axial SCX30 Ford Bronco RTR is perfectly sized for crawling across your desktop or on outdoor dirt and rock trails. It also delivers oversized performance for a very affordable price, with features and capabilities you’d never expect from a sub-micro crawler.

For example, the SCX30 Ford Bronco includes an angled skid plate to let you slide easily over challenging obstacles. That’s a feature usually found only in competition crawlers. Ramped axle housings and high clearance links also help to avoid dragging and hangups. Performance on the rocks gets another boost from the climbing stability of the chassis’ forward weight bias. And there’s much more, from damped shocks, full ball bearings, and a powerful Axial 88T motor to dependable Spektrum electronics that are mounted low in the chassis for the best center of gravity.

Topping off that trail-ready engineering is a Ford Bronco ABS hard body that proves detailed scale realism can come in any size. An authentic recreation of the full-size truck, the body is complemented by front and rear LEDs and officially licensed Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tyres on ICON Nuevo wheels. The soft compound tyres with foam inserts provide all the traction needed for outdoor action on rocks and dirt or for crawling across a desktop, table, or cluttered floor. You can turn any space into your personal Rubicon trail!

If you’re among the thousands of Axial SCX24 crawling fans, the SCX30 Ford Bronco RTR will no doubt be an essential addition to your collection. It offers all Axial enthusiasts an exciting and affordable new way to adventure. For newcomers to RC rock crawling, the simplicity and value of the complete, ready-to-run package makes the Bronco an ideal way to get started.

Break new trails, not the bank, with the small rock crawler that delivers big on performance - the Axial SCX30 Ford Bronco RTR.

Key Features

  • Axial SCX30 Sub-Micro Crawling Platform — The SCX30 is Axial's dedicated sub-micro crawling platform, engineered from the ground up to deliver genuine rock crawling performance at 1/30 scale. This purpose-built platform means every component, from the chassis geometry to the suspension linkage, has been optimised specifically for obstacle navigation and climbing stability.
  • High-Performance Chassis with Angled Skid Plate — The composite chassis features an angled skid plate that allows you to slide easily over challenging obstacles, a feature typically found only in competition-grade crawlers. This engineering detail makes a genuine difference when navigating rocky terrain or textured surfaces, preventing hangups that would stop lesser vehicles.
  • Ramped Axle Housings and High-Clearance Rear Links — Purpose-designed ramped axle housings prevent the axles from catching on obstacles, whilst high-clearance rear links are engineered to avoid dragging and hangups when climbing over uneven terrain. These details demonstrate that the SCX30 is a serious rock crawler, not merely a small car.
  • Forward Weight Bias for Climbing Stability — The chassis geometry incorporates a forward weight bias that dramatically improves climbing stability when tackling vertical obstacles and steep inclines. This engineering feature gives the SCX30 significantly better performance on rocks and challenging terrain than you would typically expect from such a small vehicle.
  • Full-Time 4-Wheel Drive System — The SCX30 features full-time four-wheel drive with a spool differential, ensuring that all four wheels receive power at all times. This continuous four-wheel drive engagement is essential for reliable rock crawling performance and gives you the traction needed to climb obstacles that would stop a 2WD vehicle.
  • Easy-Access Transmission for Maintenance and Tuning — The transmission design prioritises easy access for routine maintenance and performance tuning. The SCX30 is also compatible with optional gears available for the SCX24 platform, allowing you to experiment with different gear ratios to optimise performance for your preferred crawling style.
  • Officially Licensed Ford Bronco ABS Hard Body — The scale body is an authentic recreation of the full-size Ford Bronco, moulded from durable ABS plastic with exceptional detail and realism. Despite its tiny size, the SCX30 Ford Bronco does not compromise on scale accuracy, and the body includes moulded parts specifically designed for customisation, allowing you to personalise your crawler.
  • Clipless Body Mounting System — The innovative clipless body mounting allows fast, easy access to the chassis without removing clips or fasteners. This design means you can quickly access the battery compartment for charging or perform general maintenance without disassembling the body.
  • ICON Series Bumpers and Authentic Styling — The SCX30 features an officially licensed ICON Trail Series front bumper and ICON Pro Series rear bumper, complemented by front and rear LED lighting that adds to the authentic scale appearance and improves visibility during indoor crawling sessions or outdoor evening use.
  • Mickey Thompson Baja Boss Tyres with Foam Inserts — The SCX30 is fitted with officially licensed Mickey Thompson Baja Boss soft compound tyres mounted on ICON Nuevo wheels. These tyres are specifically designed for crawling performance, with the soft rubber compound providing maximum traction on rocks and dirt. Factory-installed foam inserts ensure that the tyres maintain their shape under load, providing consistent grip whether you are crawling across a desktop or tackling outdoor terrain.
  • Damped Shocks and Full Ball Bearings — Rather than cutting costs with bushings like many entry-level RC vehicles, the SCX30 features sealed full ball bearings throughout the entire drivetrain, ensuring smooth operation and extended component life. Combined with damped 21.5mm shocks, the suspension delivers genuine rock crawling performance and articulation.
  • Powerful Axial 88T Brushed Motor — The SCX30 is powered by a proven Axial 88T brushed motor coupled to an 11-tooth pinion gear, delivering responsive acceleration and sustained climbing power. The brushed motor provides reliable performance and is simple to maintain, making it ideal for users new to RC vehicles.
  • Low-Mounted Electronics for Optimal Centre of Gravity — The Spektrum 2-in-1 ESC and receiver are mounted low within the chassis to lower the overall centre of gravity, which directly improves climbing stability and handling characteristics. This is another detail that separates a properly engineered crawler from a basic model.
  • Spektrum SLT2 2.4GHz Radio System — The included Spektrum SLT2 transmitter operates on the reliable 2.4GHz frequency band, ensuring interference-free control. The transmitter includes a throttle limiting feature that allows you to restrict the vehicle to 50% or 75% of maximum speed until you are fully confident with the controls, making it genuinely suitable for younger drivers or those new to RC vehicles.
  • Complete Ready-to-Run Package with Battery and Charger — The SCX30 Ford Bronco RTR arrives with everything you need: the assembled vehicle, Spektrum SLT2 transmitter, 7.4V 160mAh 2S LiPo battery, and USB-C charger capable of delivering 0.5A charging current. Four AA batteries are included for the transmitter, meaning you can begin crawling within minutes of opening the box.

Technical Performance

The SCX30 Ford Bronco represents a significant engineering achievement in the sub-micro RC segment. Powered by an Axial 88T brushed motor with an 11-tooth pinion, the vehicle delivers genuine rock crawling performance with a final drive ratio of 131.58 and internal gear ratio of 16.36, ensuring low-speed torque suitable for obstacle climbing rather than high-speed performance. The composite chassis incorporates full-time 4-wheel drive through a spool differential, with solid axle front and rear suspension geometry that is optimised for articulation and obstacle clearance. The vehicle measures 162mm in length, 72mm in width, and 71mm in height, making it compact enough for tabletop crawling whilst remaining large enough for genuine outdoor terrain. The sealed ball bearing construction throughout the drivetrain ensures smooth operation and reliability, whilst the 21.5mm damped shocks provide suspension articulation and bump absorption. The Spektrum SCX30 SLT Brushed 2-in-1 ESC and receiver combination is mounted low in the chassis to maintain a low centre of gravity, benefiting both climbing stability and directional control. Power comes from a 7.4V 160mAh 2S LiPo battery with JST PH2.0 connector, which provides adequate runtime for extended crawling sessions. The entire assembly uses composite chassis construction combined with the ABS hard body to achieve an appropriate weight distribution that supports the forward weight bias climbing philosophy. This is genuine rock crawling engineering at 1/30 scale, with specifications and design principles drawn from Axial's competition crawling experience.

The included USB charger delivers 0.5A charging current for fast, convenient recharging. Runtime depends on driving style and terrain, but the compact size and efficient brushed motor combination mean typical crawling sessions can last 20-30 minutes on a single charge. Spare batteries are available for purchase to extend your session duration.
  • Can I upgrade or modify the SCX30 Ford Bronco with aftermarket parts? — Yes. The transmission design is easily accessible for maintenance and tuning, and the SCX30 is compatible with optional gears available for the SCX24 aftermarket ecosystem, allowing you to experiment with different gear ratios. The body features moulded customisation points, and various optional shocks and suspension components are available. The established aftermarket support for the SCX24 platform extends compatibility to the SCX30, offering plenty of upgrade potential.
  • What makes the SCX30 different from other 1/30 scale RC vehicles? — The SCX30 is purpose-built as a dedicated rock crawling platform by Axial, not a scaled-down version of a larger crawler. It features genuine rock crawling engineering including an angled skid plate, ramped axle housings, forward weight bias, and high-clearance links — features typically found only in competition crawlers. The suspension articulation, full ball bearing drivetrain, and low-mounted electronics for optimal centre of gravity represent serious engineering that delivers genuine climbing performance rather than basic toy functionality.
  • Is the SCX30 waterproof for outdoor use? — Whilst the source materials do not specify an official waterproof rating, the sealed ball bearings and low-mounted electronics offer good environmental protection. However, the vehicle is best suited to crawling across damp dirt and rocks rather than water crossing. As with all RC vehicles, avoid prolonged water immersion and rinse with fresh water if used in salt water environments.
  • What is the wheelbase and overall size of the SCX30? — The SCX30 has a wheelbase of 99mm (3.88 inches), with overall dimensions of 162mm length, 72mm width, and 71mm height. This compact size makes it perfect for tabletop crawling whilst remaining large enough for genuine outdoor terrain use.
  • Can I use this vehicle indoors and outdoors? — Yes, the SCX30 is genuinely versatile. The compact size makes it ideal for crawling across desktops, tables, or cluttered floors indoors, whilst the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tyres and genuine crawler engineering mean it performs equally well on outdoor dirt and rock terrain. You can truly turn any space into your personal crawling trail.
