Overview
The Futaba GYA573 6-Axis Aircraft Gyro is a sophisticated stabilisation system designed for advanced fixed-wing RC aircraft enthusiasts in the UK and beyond. This compact, lightweight gyro represents a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the GYA553, offering greater flexibility and more advanced mixing capabilities that make it the ideal choice for higher-end Futaba radio control setups. Whether you're flying precision aerobatic models, large-scale aircraft with multiple control surfaces, or experimenting with cutting-edge 4D flight control systems, the GYA573 delivers the stability and performance you need to push your RC flying experience to the next level.
Weighing just 8.5 grams and measuring a compact 28mm x 26mm x 16mm, the GYA573 combines three independent gyro sensors with three sensitive accelerometers to create a comprehensive flight stabilisation platform. This dual-sensor approach allows the gyro to detect both rotational movement and linear acceleration, enabling sophisticated flight modes and self-levelling capabilities that would be impossible with gyro-only systems. The result is a piece of equipment that experienced RC pilots will recognise as future-proof technology worthy of serious investment in their flying hobby.
Futaba has engineered the GYA573 for serious competitors and dedicated enthusiasts who demand nothing less than professional-grade performance. The gyro's advanced mixing capabilities support complex aircraft configurations including four ailerons, two elevators and twin rudders, making it suitable for everything from high-performance competition aerobatic models to scale aircraft with multiple control surfaces. For anyone seeking to elevate their RC aircraft performance and reliability, the GYA573 stands as a recognised industry-leading solution.
Key Features
- Light and Compact Design — At just 8.5 grams and measuring only 28mm in length, the GYA573 is remarkably small and lightweight, making it easy to install in aircraft with restricted space available for avionics. This compact footprint ensures minimal impact on your model's weight distribution and centre of gravity, which is critical for optimal flight characteristics and performance.
- 6-Axis Stabilisation with Dual Sensors — The gyro combines three gyro sensors (roll, pitch, and yaw axes) with three accelerometers that detect linear acceleration and aircraft orientation. This sophisticated sensor array enables self-levelling flight modes and advanced stabilisation that simple gyro-only systems cannot provide, giving you confidence in challenging flying conditions.
- Five Selectable Flight Modes — The GYA573 offers AVCS (Advanced Vectored Control System), Normal, Auto Recovery, Roll Flat, and Gyro OFF modes. This flexibility allows you to select the perfect stabilisation profile for your specific aircraft type and flying style, whether you're performing precision aerobatics or casual cruising flight.
- Extensive Control Surface Support — The gyro supports up to four ailerons, two elevators, and twin rudders, making it compatible with complex aircraft designs that would challenge simpler stabilisation systems. This capability is essential for builders of multi-surface aircraft who need coordinated control across all available surfaces.
- 4D Flight Control Support — The GYA573 is engineered to support 4D flight control, a sophisticated flying technique that combines traditional 3D aerobatics with additional rotational capabilities. This advanced feature appeals to experienced pilots seeking to expand their flying repertoire with cutting-edge flight modes.
- Camber and Air Brake Mixing — The gyro includes sophisticated mixing functions for camber adjustment and air brake control, allowing seamless integration with variable-geometry aircraft and models equipped with speed brakes. These advanced features enable optimised flight characteristics across the entire flight envelope.
- Multiple Command Protocol Support — The GYA573 accepts input via PWM (traditional pulse-width modulation), S.BUS, and S.BUS2 protocols, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of Futaba radio systems and receiver configurations. This versatility makes integration straightforward regardless of your existing RC equipment.
- S.BUS2 Compatibility — Full S.BUS2 support enables telemetry feedback and advanced two-way communication with your transmitter, allowing real-time monitoring of gyro status and configuration changes from the flight line without opening the model.
- FASSTest 26-Channel System Support — The GYA573 is fully compatible with Futaba's FASSTest 26-channel systems, providing access to the latest high-speed, interference-resistant radio technology that serious RC competitors depend upon for reliable long-range control.
- Remote Gain Adjustment — Fine-tune gyro sensitivity and response characteristics from your transmitter while flying, allowing real-time optimisation of stabilisation without landing and making adjustments. This remote gain adjustment capability saves time at the flying field and enables rapid optimisation for changing wind and flying conditions.
Technical Performance
The GYA573 represents cutting-edge gyro technology engineered specifically for demanding fixed-wing RC aircraft applications. The integration of three independent gyro sensors with three precision accelerometers creates a sophisticated inertial measurement unit capable of detecting subtle changes in aircraft orientation and acceleration. This dual-sensor approach enables flight modes that would be impossible with traditional gyro-only systems, particularly the Auto Recovery and Roll Flat modes that actively work to stabilise the aircraft around multiple axes simultaneously. The compact package measures just 28mm long, 26mm wide, and 16mm tall, yet houses all necessary sensors and control electronics without compromising performance. The 8.5-gram weight is exceptionally light for such a feature-rich system, ensuring minimal impact on your aircraft's weight budget and allowing installation in even modest-sized models. The gyro's robust construction uses quality materials and precision engineering consistent with Futaba's reputation for reliability in professional RC applications. Command protocol flexibility—supporting PWM, S.BUS, and S.BUS2—ensures compatibility across Futaba's entire receiver range, from traditional systems to the latest digital architectures. The S.BUS2 implementation enables telemetry feedback for advanced monitoring and configuration, whilst the support for FASSTest 26-channel systems provides access to high-frequency, interference-resistant control technology essential for competition flying. The advanced mixing engine supports complex aircraft configurations with up to four ailerons and twin rudders, enabling coordinated multi-surface control that maintains perfect harmony across all control surfaces throughout the entire flight envelope.
