Overview

The Futaba T16IZ Super 18-Channel Air Radio is a professional-grade transmitter designed for intermediate and advanced RC pilots who demand reliability, precision and extensive programming capability. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters or gliders across the UK or internationally, this multi-mode radio delivers the control and flexibility serious RC enthusiasts expect. The T16IZ Super combines flagship 32MZ-inspired styling with modern technology, offering an impressive 4.3-inch full colour touchscreen that makes programming intuitive and enjoyable rather than a technical chore.

This complete bundle includes three R7208SB receivers, giving you exceptional flexibility when setting up multiple aircraft or ensuring redundancy in your RC fleet. The gun metal finish exudes quality and durability, whilst the silky-smooth gimbals provide the tactile feedback that experienced pilots rely on for precise control inputs. With 18 channels (16+2), you have more than enough control authority for any aircraft configuration, from simple trainers to complex aerobatic machines and sophisticated helicopters with swashplate control.

Available from RC Model Shop, a trusted UK RC retailer stocking genuine Futaba products, the T16IZ Super represents excellent value for pilots ready to step up from basic radio systems. The inclusion of three receivers makes this bundle particularly compelling for pilots building a serious RC aircraft collection, offering genuine savings over purchasing the transmitter and receivers separately.

Technical Performance

The Futaba T16IZ Super represents state-of-the-art RC transmitter technology for air applications. Operating on the 2.4GHz frequency band, the system utilises multiple transmission protocols (FASSTest, T-FHSS and S-FHSS) to ensure reliable, interference-resistant control even in crowded RF environments common at busy UK airfields and flying clubs. The 18-channel architecture (16 main channels plus 2 auxiliary channels) provides exceptional flexibility for complex aircraft configurations, whilst the 30 model memory slots enable operation of extensive aircraft fleets without reprogramming.

The touchscreen interface represents a significant advancement in usability compared to button-based systems, allowing rapid access to programming functions and flight condition adjustment. With full telemetry support incorporating data speech, sound and vibration alerts, pilots maintain real-time awareness of critical flight parameters including battery voltage, altitude, airspeed and temperature depending on sensor configuration. The S.BUS2 protocol enables compact receiver wiring configurations with support for numerous servos through single connections.

Build quality throughout the transmitter reflects professional-grade standards, with the gun metal finish providing durable corrosion resistance suitable for long-term UK field use. The silky-smooth gimbals deliver the precision control feedback that experienced pilots require for accurate control inputs, whilst the ergonomic design accommodates extended flying sessions without hand fatigue. The included 2000mAh Li-Ion battery provides sufficient capacity for multiple flight sessions before requiring USB recharge, with modern LiFe chemistry offering improved cycle life compared to older battery technologies.

Each of the three included R7208SB receivers incorporates dual receiver functionality, meaning each receiver contains two independent receiving circuits for enhanced failsafe capability and redundancy. This dual-receiver architecture provides an extra safety margin, particularly valuable during extended cross-country flying or when operating near obstacles where loss of control would result in expensive damage or injury risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba T16IZ Super suitable for beginner RC pilots? — Whilst the T16IZ Super is technically capable enough for beginners, it is specifically designed and recommended for intermediate and advanced pilots. Beginners typically benefit from simpler systems with fewer channels and reduced programming options. However, experienced pilots transitioning from basic systems will find the T16IZ Super intuitive to learn, with the touchscreen interface making complex programming more accessible than older button-based transmitters.
  • What transmission protocols does this radio support? — The T16IZ Super supports three Futaba transmission protocols: FASSTest (Futaba's most modern protocol), T-FHSS (Time division Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) and S-FHSS (original FHSS protocol). All three operate on the 2.4GHz frequency band, providing interference resistance and compatibility with a wide range of Futaba receivers across different age ranges of aircraft.
  • How long does the battery last per flight session? — The 2000mAh Li-Ion battery pack provides sufficient capacity for multiple complete flight sessions before requiring recharge. Actual runtime depends on transmitter usage patterns, with continuous operation providing approximately 20-30 hours of total flight session time. Field recharging via USB allows convenient battery top-up between flights.
  • What makes the three included receivers valuable? — Each R7208SB receiver incorporates dual receiver functionality, effectively providing six independent receiving circuits total across the three receivers. This enables flexible receiver deployment across multiple aircraft, provides redundancy for critical aircraft, and supports complex installations where multiple receivers monitor the same channels for enhanced failsafe capability.
  • Can I use this transmitter with older Futaba aircraft? — The multi-protocol capability (FASSTest, T-FHSS, S-FHSS) provides excellent backward compatibility with a wide range of Futaba receivers spanning decades of RC aircraft. However, consult your specific aircraft manual or contact RC Model Shop to verify compatibility with your receiver generation.
  • What are the advantages of the 4.3-inch colour touchscreen? — The large touchscreen display significantly simplifies navigation through the extensive programming menus compared to older button-based systems. Colour visual feedback improves programming speed and reduces errors, whilst the intuitive interface makes complex setup tasks more accessible to intermediate pilots.
  • Does this radio system include everything needed to fly? — This bundle includes the transmitter, three receivers and battery, providing the essential radio control elements. To complete your RC aircraft setup, you will require servos, aircraft frame/body, motor (for powered aircraft), speed controller and appropriate aircraft battery for your specific model.
  • What is S.BUS2 and why does it matter? — S.BUS2 is Futaba's advanced serial bus protocol enabling multiple servos and sensors to connect through a single receiver output. This reduces wiring complexity, weight and potential points of failure compared to individual servo connections, whilst enabling advanced telemetry and sensor integration for sophisticated aircraft setups.
  • How many flight conditions can I create per model? — Each of the 30 model memories supports 8 different flight condition configurations, enabling complete parameter changes (control rates, mixes, failsafe settings) between flight phases without switching transmitter models. This proves particularly valuable for aerobatic aircraft, complex helicopters and gliders requiring different control characteristics for different flight regimes.
  • What charging options are available for the transmitter battery? — The included 2000mAh Li-Ion battery pack charges via USB cable provided in the box, enabling convenient charging from computers, USB power supplies or automotive cigarette lighter adaptors for field operation.
