Overview

The Team Associated RC10 Team Car Gold Edition Kit (AS6034) is an authentic replica of the legendary 1990 RC10 Team Car, one of the most successful and iconic RC buggies ever created. This 1/10 scale 2WD electric buggy kit celebrates the machine that helped Team Associated achieve a clean sweep at the 1990 Off-Road ROAR Nationals, combining period-correct engineering with modern production quality. Whether you're a seasoned RC racer, a collector of classic RC cars, or an enthusiast looking for a genuine piece of off-road racing history, the RC10 Team Car Gold Edition delivers authentic competition heritage with genuine performance credentials.

The RC10 has won more National and World Championships than any other RC car in history, making it the ultimate choice for serious competitors and RC enthusiasts across the UK. This particular edition features a striking gold-anodized, laser-etched aluminium monocoque chassis that pays homage to the original 1990 design whilst incorporating modern tuning capability and precision manufacturing. The RC10 Team Car was the first RC10 variant to feature the revolutionary Stealth ATC transmission, hard-anodized shocks with PTFE coating, and updated suspension geometry that proved so effective at the 1990 ROAR Nationals. Factory drivers including Cliff Lett, Brent Wallace, and J.D. Beckwith dominated competition with these new components, establishing a legacy that continues to this day.

If you're shopping for an RC car in the UK that combines authentic vintage appeal with proven competition engineering, the RC10 Team Car Gold Edition Kit stands apart from ready-to-run RC cars and mass-produced hobby items. This is a genuine competition-grade 2WD off-road buggy kit that demands respect and rewards skill, offering unlimited customisation potential through the extensive Team Associated parts ecosystem and genuine aftermarket support that has made the RC10 legendary among RC racing enthusiasts worldwide.

Key Features

  • Gold-Anodized Laser-Etched Aluminium Monocoque Chassis — The chassis is deep-drawn from premium T6 aircraft-grade aluminium and heat-treated for exceptional strength, then finished in striking gold anodising with laser etching. This nearly indestructible monocoque design resists flexing completely, ensuring that the chassis remains perfectly flat and true through intense racing conditions. The smooth bottom glides effortlessly over rough terrain whilst the high sides keep out debris and strengthen the overall structure, making this the most durable and versatile chassis design proven across decades of competition.
  • Sealed 3-Gear Stealth ATC Transmission with 2.25:1 Final Drive — The legendary low-inertia Stealth ATC transmission was a revolutionary advancement that delivered immediate racing success when it debuted. This sealed 3-gear unit features 48-pitch precision steel gears with steel ball bearings throughout, a quick-change spur gear system, long-life clutch friction plates, and large-area high-torque clutch plates that transfer power with minimal loss. The high-torque ball differential with hardened steel balls ensures reliable power delivery in any track condition, whilst the 2.25:1 final drive ratio provides the perfect balance of acceleration and top-end capability for competitive off-road racing.
  • Fully Adjustable Four-Wheel Independent Suspension with Widened Geometry — The RC10 features a completely independent suspension system at all four corners, engineered with a wider, more aggressive stance made possible by longer lower suspension arms. This redesigned front suspension geometry combined with zero-offset steering blocks delivers exceptional high-speed stability, superior tracking accuracy, and lightning-quick turn-in response for cutting tight racing lines through sharp corners. The suspension geometry can be fine-tuned to suit individual driving styles and varying track conditions, offering genuine competitive versatility that separates serious RC racers from casual bashers.
  • Long-Travel Fluid-Filled Oil-Filled Coil-Over Shocks with PTFE Coating — The suspension incorporates advanced anodized aluminium coil-over shocks filled with high-quality shock fluid that provide consistent damping across extended travel distances. The PTFE-coated shock shafts reduce friction and deliver smooth, predictable suspension response whether you're landing jumps or navigating technical terrain. Multiple shock tower mounting points with adjustable caster blocks and turnbuckles throughout the suspension allow precise spring rate adjustment for individual tracks, making setup changes quick and intuitive without requiring specialist tools or aftermarket modifications.
  • Adjustable Rear Toe-In (0° or 3°) with Selectable Steering Geometry — The rear suspension mounts feature rugged blocks that allow you to select rear toe-in settings of either 0 degrees or 3 degrees, enabling precise tuning of rear-end tracking and stability characteristics. This level of geometric adjustability is found on professional-grade competition RC buggies, allowing drivers to optimise cornering performance and straightline stability based on track surface and driving technique. The system uses precision turnbuckles throughout for easy, repeatable adjustments that actually stick rather than creeping under load.
  • Hardened Universal Driveshafts for Efficient Power Transfer — Heat-treated steel-alloy universal driveshafts are standard equipment, delivering three critical advantages: they reduce power loss compared to traditional drive designs, eliminate the need for separate dog bone components, and provide superior durability under racing stresses. This premium drivetrain design ensures that maximum engine power reaches the wheels consistently, translating to better acceleration and more reliable performance during competitive racing sessions.
  • One-Piece Precision-Moulded Racing Wheels in Virgin Nylon — The wheels feature a lightweight, single-piece webbed design that eliminates the weight and flex associated with traditional three-piece designs. Precision-moulded in virgin nylon for optimum strength and concentricity, these racing wheels are sized to accept low-profile competition tyres. The deep-dish wheel styling serves a functional purpose beyond aesthetics, reducing dirt build-up that can affect performance. Front wheels measure 2.125 inches and rear wheels measure 2.0 inches in diameter, providing the perfect rolling diameter for competitive off-road racing.
  • Team Associated TQ Racing Tyres with Soft Compound Fronts and Medium Compound Rears — The tyres are specially developed competition rubber moulded from secret long-wear, high-traction formulas available in multiple hardnesses to suit varying track conditions and surfaces. The front tyres feature soft compound rubber with pin spike traction elements, whilst the rear tyres use medium compound with pyramid spike patterns. This combination keeps the RC10 hooked to most off-road racing surfaces whether you're racing on packed clay, dirt, or mixed terrain, delivering the consistent grip that competition demands.
  • Clear ProTech Viper Body and Wing with Decal Sheet — The kit includes a professional-grade clear polycarbonate body shell in the iconic Viper style, plus an unpainted 7-inch wing that completes the authentic 1990 appearance. The clear body shell is pre-drilled for body posts and includes a full decal sheet for period-correct decoration. The body provides excellent visibility of the chassis and internal components whilst offering aerodynamic stability at speed, and the material resists cracking from impacts better than standard polycarbonate.
  • Full Metal Ball Bearing Construction Throughout — Every rotating component uses genuine ball bearings rather than plastic bushings, ensuring smooth operation, minimal drag, and extended component lifespan even under intense competitive racing. This is a detail that separates competition-grade kits from entry-level models, directly impacting performance consistency and maintenance requirements.
  • Fiberglass Shock Towers for Lightweight Durability — The front and rear shock towers are constructed from reinforced fibreglass that combines lightweight properties with excellent impact resistance. This material choice minimises unsprung weight whilst providing the durability needed for repeated jumps, crashes, and hard landings that are part of competitive RC racing.
  • 2S LiPo and 6-Cell NiMH Battery Compatibility — The RC10 Team Car Gold Edition is designed to accept either modern 2S LiPo battery packs (7.4V nominal) or traditional 6-cell NiMH battery packs, providing flexibility in power source selection. This compatibility means you can choose between the lighter weight and higher discharge rate of LiPo technology or the simpler handling and safety of NiMH batteries depending on your preference and experience level.

Technical Performance

The RC10 Team Car Gold Edition represents a masterclass in competition buggy engineering, combining materials science, precision manufacturing, and decades of racing development into a single complete package. The deep-drawn T6 aluminium monocoque chassis is the foundation of exceptional performance, providing a chassis platform that is simultaneously lightweight and absolutely rigid, resisting the flex and tweaking that compromises handling in lesser designs. The chassis dimensions of 381mm length, 226.8mm width, and 267.7mm wheelbase create perfect proportions for off-road stability and manoeuvrability, proven across countless championship-winning RC10s. The build quality throughout is exceptional, with every mounting hole precision-drilled and countersunk using CNC equipment to ensure perfect alignment and stress-free assembly. The Stealth ATC transmission's low-inertia design combined with the 2.25:1 final drive ratio strikes an ideal balance for competitive off-road racing, delivering responsive acceleration whilst maintaining realistic top-end performance that rewards smooth driving technique. The fully independent suspension geometry with adjustable mounting points and multiple shock tower positions enables fine-tuning to suit different drivers, track surfaces, and racing styles, from tight indoor carpet tracks to outdoor clay and dirt courses. Oil-filled shocks with extended travel provide consistent damping whether landing jumps or navigating whoops, whilst the PTFE-coated shock shafts ensure reliable performance session after session. The hardened universal driveshafts, precision steering blocks, and race-proven wheel and tyre package combine to create a vehicle that responds to driver inputs immediately and delivers predictable, confidence-inspiring handling. This is a genuine competition platform that rewards investment in setup knowledge and driving skill development, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced RC racers rather than casual beginners.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Associated RC10 Team Car Gold Edition suitable for beginners? — The RC10 Team Car Gold Edition is designed as a competition-grade kit for intermediate to advanced RC racers rather than beginners. Assembly requires mechanical aptitude and familiarity with RC vehicle construction, as this is a full kit that arrives completely unassembled. However, if you have experience building RC models and understand electronics basics, the comprehensive instruction manual and logical design make assembly straightforward. The fully adjustable suspension and setup-sensitive tuning reward racing skill development, making it an excellent investment if you're committed to improving as an RC racer.
  • What battery does the RC10 Team Car Gold Edition need? — The kit is compatible with either 2S LiPo battery packs (7.4V nominal) or traditional 6-cell NiMH battery packs. Modern competitive racers typically prefer 2S LiPo batteries because they deliver higher discharge rates, lighter weight, and better power consistency throughout the run compared to NiMH. However, NiMH batteries are simpler to charge and handle, making them suitable if you're newer to battery management. Your specific battery capacity choice depends on your motor selection and desired runtime, which RC Model Shop can help you determine when you select your motor and ESC combination.
  • What is the difference between the RC10 Team Car Gold Edition and the RC10 Graphite? — The RC10 Team Car Gold Edition is an authentic replica of the 1990 Team Car with a gold-anodized aluminium monocoque chassis, whilst the RC10 Graphite features a carbon fibre graphite chassis instead. The Team Car Gold Edition uses the original Stealth ATC transmission, whereas later Graphite variants introduced additional refinements. Both are legendary platform, but the Team Car Gold Edition emphasises historical accuracy and authentic 1990 racing heritage, making it ideal for collectors and purists who appreciate the original design that sparked the RC10's championship dominance.
  • Can I upgrade and modify the RC10 Team Car Gold Edition? — Absolutely. One of the greatest strengths of the RC10 platform is the vast ecosystem of official Team Associated aftermarket parts and upgrades available. You can modify virtually every component including transmission internals, shock configurations, suspension geometry, drivetrain components, and body shells. The precision, CNC-drilled chassis and modular design allows seamless integration of new parts, meaning you'll never outgrow the platform as your skills improve and racing demands evolve.
  • How long does assembly take and what tools do I need? — Complete assembly typically requires 4-8 hours depending on your mechanical experience and available tools. You'll need basic hand tools including hex keys (Allen keys), screwdrivers, and pliers. A socket set is helpful but not essential. The instruction manual provides clear step-by-step guidance for assembly sequencing, and RC Model Shop can provide additional support if you encounter questions during the build process.
  • Is this RC buggy ready to race immediately after assembly? — Once assembled and equipped with motor, ESC, servo, battery, and radio system, the RC10 is ready for initial testing. However, competitive racing requires track-specific setup tuning including suspension geometry, shock spring rates, differential adjustments, and tyre selection. The fully adjustable platform allows you to optimise every variable, but expect to spend several practice sessions dialling in the perfect setup for your driving style and local track conditions.
  • What is the wheelbase and overall dimensions? — The RC10 Team Car Gold Edition measures 381mm in length, 226.8mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 267.7mm. These proportions are deliberately optimised for off-road racing stability and cornering responsiveness, creating a wheelbase-to-width ratio that has proven successful across decades of championship victories. These dimensions make it suitable for most standard RC racing tracks and club facilities.
