Overview

The Team Associated RC10 4WD Kit (AS6040) is a legendary reimagining of one of RC history's most iconic vehicles. Team Associated's engineers have combined the classic appeal and proven engineering of the original RC10 with comprehensive four-wheel-drive technology, creating a genuine 4WD off-road buggy that arrives complete in one box. This is not a conversion kit or an assembly of mismatched parts—it is a properly engineered Team Associated 4WD RC car UK enthusiasts have been waiting for. Drawing on decades of racing heritage and the championship-proven knowledge gained from the B74 platform, the RC10 4WD delivers authentic vintage styling married to modern performance engineering, making it ideal for drivers who demand both nostalgia and race-level capability.

If you have ever wanted to experience the golden age of off-road RC racing, this is the kit for you. The RC10 4WD is designed for builders and racers who appreciate quality engineering, enjoy hands-on assembly, and want a machine that performs at the track whilst looking fantastic. Whether you are a seasoned competitor, a collector seeking a modern homage to classic RC design, or a dedicated hobbyist wanting to build something truly special, this ready-to-build RC buggy offers exceptional value and authenticity. The kit includes all major mechanical components—chassis, suspension, drivetrain, transmissions, and body—so you simply need to add your choice of modern electronics and hit the track.

Built around a stunning gold-anodised 6061-T6 aluminium monocoque tub chassis, the RC10 4WD combines lightweight strength with elegant styling that harks back to the 1990s whilst performing with today's engineering standards. The fully adjustable suspension, race-proven transmissions, and precision bearing throughout ensure this is a legitimate performance platform, not merely a nostalgic collectible. It fits standard 2S LiPo or 6-cell NiMH battery packs, giving you flexibility in your electronics setup.

Key Features

  • Gold-Anodised 6061-T6 Aluminium Monocoque Tub Chassis — The iconic RC10 tub is constructed from premium hard-anodised 6061-T6 aluminium with a smooth undercarriage design, providing exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, maximum ground clearance, and that unmistakable vintage aesthetic that made the RC10 legendary. This lightweight chassis forms the structural foundation of the entire buggy and is finished in the distinctive gold anodising that is instantly recognisable to RC enthusiasts worldwide.
  • Four-Wheel-Drive Engineering with Stealth® Transmissions — Front and rear Stealth transmissions with adjustable ball differentials deliver power to all four wheels, combining the traction advantages of 4WD with the tuning flexibility needed for competitive racing. The adjustable differentials allow you to dial in the exact amount of locking to suit your driving style and track conditions, giving you precision control over how the buggy handles acceleration and cornering.
  • Race-Proven V2 Slipper Clutch System — The battle-tested V2 slipper clutch protects the drivetrain from shock loads and provides smooth power delivery, reducing wear on gears and shafts whilst maintaining consistent performance across varied terrain. This is the same clutch system that has proven itself in competitive racing environments, ensuring reliability and durability.
  • CVA Driveshafts and Low-Friction Centre Belt Tension System — Precision-engineered CVA driveshafts deliver power efficiently to all four wheels with minimal friction loss, whilst the durable low-friction centre belt and tension system ensures smooth power transfer through the drivetrain. Together, these components minimise energy waste and maximise acceleration response.
  • Fully Independent Four-Wheel Suspension with Adjustable Coil-Over Shocks — The RC10 4WD features long-travel, hard-anodised aluminium coil-over shocks on all four wheels, providing exceptional bump absorption and consistent ground contact across rough terrain. Each shock is fluid-filled for smooth operation, and the suspension geometry is fully adjustable, allowing you to tune camber, caster, ride height, and spring rates to suit every type of track and driving preference.
  • Long-Arm Front Suspension Geometry — The long front arm design permits extensive static camber, camber rise, caster, and ride height tuning, giving you sophisticated control over how the front end behaves in cornering, acceleration, and over obstacles. This level of adjustability is essential for serious racers who want to optimise their setup for different surfaces and conditions.
  • New 4WD-Specific Shock Towers and Steering Bellcrank System — Purpose-designed shock towers front and rear are optimised specifically for the RC10 4WD platform, ensuring precise geometry and reliable performance. The all-new 4WD-specific bellcrank steering system provides accurate, responsive steering response with minimal deadband, giving you the directional control needed for competitive racing.
  • Updated Rear Bulkhead with Carbon Fibre Transmission Brace — The chassis includes an updated rear bulkhead assembly and a carbon fibre rear transmission brace, which provides additional rigidity to the drivetrain area whilst minimising weight. This engineering detail reduces flex and ensures consistent performance even during aggressive acceleration and cornering.
  • Precision Ball Bearings Throughout — Every rotating component features precision ball bearings, reducing friction and ensuring smooth, efficient operation. High-quality bearings are fundamental to responsive handling and reliable performance, and this kit does not compromise on this critical component.
  • Clear ProTech Polycarbonate Body with Driver Figure and High-Downforce Wing — The buggy is supplied with a clear polycarbonate ProTech body shell and integrated driver figure, finished with a 5.5-inch high-downforce Lexan race wing. The clear shell allows you to see all the mechanical detail you have built, whilst the wing provides aerodynamic stability at speed. You can personalise the appearance by spray-painting the body with Lexan-specific paint in your chosen colours and designs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Associated RC10 4WD Kit suitable for beginners? — This kit is designed for hobbyists with RC building experience. It requires full assembly, including suspension setup, drivetrain installation, and tuning of various adjustable components. If you have previously built RC kits and are comfortable with assembly, you will find this manageable. However, if you are entirely new to RC, you may benefit from starting with a ready-to-run model first, or seeking assistance from experienced RC enthusiasts in your local community. Once built, the adjustable suspension and tuning options make it an excellent learning platform for understanding how different setups affect performance.
  • What battery does the RC10 4WD need? — The kit is designed to fit either a 6-cell NiMH battery pack or a modern 2S LiPo battery. For 2S LiPo, you need a pack with shorty dimensions (either standard or low-profile height). Both options are readily available from RC retailers. If you choose 2S LiPo, you will need an appropriate LiPo-capable charger. NiMH packs are generally simpler to manage but offer less performance; modern 2S LiPo packs provide better performance and faster charging but require a bit more care in handling and storage. You can choose based on your preferences and budget.
  • How does the RC10 4WD compare to other 1/10-scale off-road buggies? — The RC10 4WD is unique because it combines genuine Team Associated engineering with the iconic RC10 heritage that revolutionised off-road RC racing in the 1980s. Unlike generic buggies or conversion kits, this is a purpose-designed 4WD platform that incorporates knowledge from Team Associated's championship-proven B74 platform. The result is a buggy that balances authentic vintage styling with modern race engineering. The fully adjustable suspension, race-proven transmissions, and comprehensive tuning capability place it in the competition-oriented segment rather than casual basher category. If you value brand heritage, engineering quality, and the aesthetic appeal of classic RC design, the RC10 4WD stands apart.
  • What makes the chassis construction special? — The gold-anodised 6061-T6 aluminium monocoque tub is the signature element of the RC10 line. This construction method creates a chassis that is both rigid and lightweight, with excellent torsional stiffness for precise handling. The smooth undercarriage design maximises ground clearance, allowing the buggy to navigate rough terrain without getting stuck on high chassis rails. The gold anodising is not just aesthetic—it provides corrosion resistance and a distinctive finish that is instantly recognisable to RC enthusiasts. This engineering approach is typical of premium, competition-grade RC cars.
  • Can I upgrade or customise parts on this kit? — Yes. The RC10 4WD is compatible with many aftermarket parts from the wider 1/10-scale off-road community, and Team Associated produces a comprehensive range of option parts for the RC10 4WD specifically. You can upgrade shock oil viscosity, spring rates, shock towers, suspension arms, wheels, tyres, and drivetrain components. The fully adjustable suspension means you can experiment with different setups to optimise performance for your local track. This flexibility is one of the advantages of choosing a kit built on an established, well-supported platform.
  • How long does assembly take? — Assembly time varies depending on your experience and available tools, but most builders should plan for 8–12 hours of focused work. This includes assembling the chassis sub-assemblies, installing suspension components, building the drivetrain, and final tuning. The instruction manual provided by Team Associated contains detailed step-by-step guidance with diagrams. Working methodically and checking your progress against the manual will ensure a quality build. Many builders find the assembly process rewarding, as you gain an intimate understanding of how every component works.
  • What is included in the instruction manual? — Team Associated provides comprehensive documentation including a detailed instruction manual and a complete parts list. The manual guides you through every assembly step with clear diagrams and exploded views, helping you understand how components fit together and in what order to assemble them. The parts list allows you to verify you have every component before starting and helps with identifying spare parts if you need replacements later.
  • Does this kit work on different track surfaces? — Yes. The fully adjustable suspension with long-travel shocks, tunable camber and caster, and adjustable ride height makes the RC10 4WD adaptable to various surfaces. Smooth clay tracks, grass fields, rocky terrain, and mixed surfaces can all be tackled by adjusting suspension geometry, shock oil viscosity, spring rates, and differential locking ratios. The 4WD drivetrain provides traction on slippery surfaces, whilst the independent suspension absorbs bumps. Different tyres can also be fitted—the vintage spikes are included, but you can add aftermarket compounds to suit specific conditions.
  • What radio system and servo does this need? — The kit accepts any standard 2-channel surface radio system and 1/10-scale servo. Popular choices include Spektrum and Futaba radios, which are readily available from RC retailers in the UK. Any standard servo with suitable torque (typically 15–25 kg/cm for off-road buggies) will work. Specific brand compatibility is not an issue—as long as your transmitter is a 2-channel surface unit and your servo is a standard 1/10 servo, it will integrate with the RC10 4WD.
  • Is the RC10 4WD waterproof? — The kit itself is not fully sealed as supplied. If you plan to run in wet conditions or splash through water, you will need to seal the motor and ESC with appropriate waterproofing measures, and ensure your radio receiver is protected. Many racers use sealed electronics and add o-rings to vulnerable areas. This is a common practice for off-road racing in the UK where wet conditions are frequent, and aftermarket waterproofing kits are readily available.
  • Can I use brushless motor and ESC combination? — Absolutely. The RC10 4WD is fully compatible with modern brushless motors and speed controllers. A 1/10-scale 540-size brushless motor paired with a suitable brushless ESC will deliver excellent performance and efficiency. Brushless setups are now the standard in competitive racing, offering better efficiency, lower heat generation, and longer run times compared to brushed motors. Choose an ESC rated for your battery voltage (2S LiPo or equivalent) and motor KV rating, and you are good to go.
