Overview
The Spektrum SPM 2840-1900Kv Brushless Outrunner Motor (Model M-SPMXAM3900) is a high-performance brushless electric motor designed for RC aircraft and multi-rotor applications. This 14-pole outrunner motor delivers impressive power characteristics with a KV rating of 1900, making it suitable for a wide range of RC enthusiasts looking to upgrade or build their next aerial platform. Whether you're searching for a reliable brushless RC motor in the UK or seeking to enhance your existing RC setup, this Spektrum motor represents a trusted choice from one of the industry's most recognised manufacturers. The motor's outrunner design means the outer bell rotates around a stationary core, providing efficient power delivery and excellent torque characteristics that make it ideal for both sport flying and leisurely cruising applications.
Spektrum is renowned for manufacturing precision-engineered RC components, and this brushless motor exemplifies their commitment to quality and reliability. The 14-pole configuration strikes an excellent balance between power and efficiency, making it suitable for medium-powered RC aircraft applications. If you're building a custom RC plane, quadcopter, or multirotor platform in the UK, this motor offers the performance and dependability that serious hobbyists demand. The compact yet robust construction means it integrates well into various airframe designs without adding unnecessary weight or bulk to your RC model.
This brushless outrunner motor is perfect for RC builders who understand the importance of quality components. Unlike brushed motors that require regular maintenance and eventually wear out, brushless motors like the SPM 2840-1900Kv offer superior longevity, efficiency, and consistent performance across extended flight sessions. With its reputation for reliability, this Spektrum motor is an excellent choice whether you're a weekend flyer or someone serious about getting the best performance from your RC aircraft.
Key Features
- Brushless Outrunner Design — The brushless technology eliminates carbon brush wear and maintenance, providing longer operational life and more consistent performance throughout your RC flying sessions compared to traditional brushed alternatives. Outrunner configuration means the rotating bell generates excellent torque characteristics ideal for aerial applications.
- 1900 KV Rating — This KV specification determines the motor's RPM per volt, meaning at 1 volt the motor will turn approximately 1900 revolutions per minute. This mid-range KV makes the motor versatile for various aircraft weights and configurations, balancing speed with power delivery for stable, controllable flight characteristics.
- 14-Pole Motor Construction — The 14-pole configuration provides smoother power delivery and better efficiency compared to lower-pole-count motors, whilst reducing vibration and noise during operation. This results in more refined flight characteristics and improved overall performance in your RC aircraft or multirotor platform.
- Spektrum Quality Engineering — As a Spektrum product, this motor benefits from rigorous quality control and precision manufacturing standards. Spektrum's reputation for reliability means you can trust this motor to perform consistently in demanding RC applications across all seasons and conditions in the UK.
- Compact Form Factor — The motor's efficient design minimises weight whilst maximising performance, critical considerations for any RC aircraft builder. This allows you to allocate weight budget to batteries, payloads, or additional flight systems rather than excessive motor mass.
- Wide Compatibility Range — The motor's specifications make it compatible with standard RC batteries and ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) setups commonly used in the RC hobby, ensuring easy integration into existing or new RC builds.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum SPM 2840-1900Kv Brushless Outrunner Motor delivers impressive technical performance characteristics that make it suitable for diverse RC aircraft applications. The 1900 KV rating provides an optimal balance between speed and torque, allowing builders to design platforms ranging from high-speed racing aircraft to stable, precision-flying models. The brushless outrunner construction ensures minimal electromagnetic interference, clean power delivery, and excellent efficiency across the entire throttle range. The 14-pole design is a proven configuration in the RC industry, offering superior smoothness compared to lower-pole alternatives whilst maintaining reliable commutation and consistent RPM regardless of load variations. The motor's engineering allows it to work effectively with standard 2S to 4S LiPo batteries commonly found in RC hobbyist setups, though exact voltage compatibility should be confirmed with your chosen ESC pairing. As a Spektrum product manufactured to strict quality standards, this motor exhibits excellent build quality with precision-wound stator coils and a robust bell structure designed to withstand the rigours of regular RC flying. The outrunner design generates excellent cooling characteristics due to airflow across the rotating bell, preventing thermal issues during extended flight sessions. Whether you're building a park flyer, intermediate RC aeroplane, or multirotor platform, this motor delivers the reliable performance that distinguishes professional-grade RC components from budget alternatives available in the UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does 1900KV mean on this brushless RC motor? — The KV rating (1900 in this case) indicates the motor's speed constant, specifically the number of revolutions per minute the motor will turn for every 1 volt of electrical potential applied. So with a 2S LiPo battery (7.4V), this motor would theoretically spin at approximately 14,060 RPM under no load. This mid-range KV makes it versatile for various RC aircraft applications, balancing speed with torque.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners building their first RC aircraft? — This motor is appropriate for intermediate RC builders who have experience selecting ESCs, batteries, and propellers to match motor specifications. Beginners should seek guidance from experienced RC hobbyists or shop staff to ensure the motor is paired with correctly-sized components for their specific aircraft project. Ready-to-fly RC models are better suited for those completely new to the hobby.
- What battery does the Spektrum SPM 2840-1900Kv motor need? — This motor works with LiPo, LiIon, and LiFe battery packs in the 2S to 4S range, though your specific battery choice depends on your aircraft weight, desired flight characteristics, and the ESC you select to power the motor. You must pair this motor with an appropriately rated ESC that can handle your chosen battery voltage and current draw.
- How does the 14-pole configuration benefit my RC flying? — The 14-pole design provides smoother operation with less vibration compared to lower-pole-count motors, resulting in more refined flight characteristics and reduced noise. It also delivers more consistent power throughout the throttle range, which is particularly valuable for precise flying or racing applications. The smoother commutation means less electromagnetic noise interference with your RC radio system.
- What aircraft types is this motor suitable for? — The 1900KV rating and outrunner configuration make this motor suitable for medium-weight RC aeroplanes, sport planes, intermediate multirotor platforms, and various experimental RC aircraft designs. The exact compatibility depends on your airframe weight, desired performance characteristics, and propeller selection, so consult sizing calculators and experienced RC builders for your specific project.
