The Radient Charge Lead XT60 to XT90 Male adapter is an essential accessory for RC enthusiasts in the UK who work with multiple connector types across their fleet. Whether you're running brushless RC cars, electric trucks, or any other battery-powered RC vehicle, managing different charging connectors can become complicated and messy. This practical adapter cable solves that problem by providing a straightforward bridge between XT60 and XT90 male connections, allowing you to use a single charger or power source with multiple RC models regardless of which connector type they feature.
Built with quality and simplicity in mind, this Radient adapter is ideal for anyone building a comprehensive RC setup in the UK. If you're expanding your RC car collection or upgrading your charging infrastructure, having the right adapters ensures you can charge all your models efficiently without purchasing multiple chargers or constantly switching leads. The compact 150mm length keeps your charging station organised and tidy, whilst the robust 12AWG copper wire construction ensures safe, reliable power transfer during charging applications.
This charge lead is suitable for hobbyists aged 14 and above who understand battery safety and proper connector handling. Whether you're a seasoned RC racer maintaining competition vehicles, a weekend basher who enjoys ready to run RC models, or someone exploring the RC hobby for the first time, having the correct adapter connectors in your toolkit is essential. The Radient brand is recognised for producing reliable charging solutions and connectors, making this an excellent choice for anyone serious about their RC equipment.
Key Features
- XT60 to XT90 Male Connector Compatibility — This adapter connects an XT60 female connector to an XT90 male connector, allowing you to bridge two of the most popular connector types used across the RC hobby, giving you flexibility when charging different RC vehicles with incompatible connectors.
- 12AWG Copper Wire Construction — The cable uses 12AWG gauge copper wire, which provides excellent electrical conductivity and is heavy enough to handle the current demands of typical RC battery charging applications safely and efficiently without voltage drop.
- Compact 150mm Length — At just 150mm (approximately 6 inches), this adapter keeps your charging setup neat and organised, taking up minimal space on your workbench or in your charging station whilst still providing comfortable handling during connections and disconnections.
- Black and Red Colour Coding — The dual-colour design with black and red wires makes polarity identification immediately obvious, reducing the risk of accidental reversed connections that could damage batteries or electronics during charging.
- Purpose-Built for Charging Applications — Unlike general-purpose extension leads, this adapter is specifically designed for charge lead use, making it ideal for connecting chargers to multiple battery types or bridging different connector standards on your RC batteries.
- Lightweight and Portable — Weighing just 0.03kg (0.07lbs), this adapter is extremely portable and easy to store in your RC toolbox or pit bag, making it perfect for taking to tracks, events, or wherever your RC activities take you.
- Age 14+ Recommendation — Suitable for teenage and adult RC enthusiasts, this adapter is designed for users who can safely handle electrical connectors and understand the importance of proper battery charging procedures.
Technical Performance
The Radient Charge Lead delivers exceptional performance through its use of 12AWG copper wire, a gauge specifically chosen to handle the current requirements of RC LiPo and NiMH batteries during charging without significant voltage drop. Copper is the industry standard for connector leads because it offers superior electrical conductivity compared to inferior materials, ensuring maximum efficiency when transferring power from your charger to your batteries. The 150mm length is deliberately compact yet functional, eliminating excess cable that could create clutter whilst maintaining sufficient length for comfortable handling and safe connection distances. The XT60 female to XT90 male configuration addresses a common problem in the RC community: managing multiple battery connector types. XT-style connectors are among the most popular in the hobby, with XT60 connectors commonly found on smaller RC models, LiPo batteries, and chargers, whilst XT90 connectors are increasingly popular on high-performance vehicles and larger battery packs due to their superior current-carrying capability. This adapter bridges that gap perfectly, allowing single chargers to work with batteries featuring different connector types, eliminating the need to purchase multiple chargers or rewire your batteries. The black and red colour coding is more than cosmetic—it's a critical safety feature that ensures polarity is maintained during connection, preventing the catastrophic reverse-polarity damage that can occur if positive and negative connections are accidentally swapped. For anyone maintaining multiple RC vehicles in the UK—whether brushless 4WD trucks, electric buggies, or other battery-powered models—this adapter becomes an invaluable tool in your charging arsenal.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the XT60 to XT90 Male adapter used for? — This adapter is specifically designed for charging applications where you need to connect an XT60 female connector (typically found on chargers) to an XT90 male connector (found on batteries or charging input ports). It's essential equipment if you own RC vehicles with mixed connector types and want to use a single charger across your entire fleet.
- Can I use this adapter for discharging batteries? — Whilst technically possible, this adapter is purpose-built for charge lead applications. For safety reasons, if you need to discharge batteries, consult your charger's manual and use only connectors and leads specifically rated for your discharge current requirements.
- Is 12AWG sufficient for my RC charging needs? — Yes, 12AWG copper wire is the industry standard for most RC charging applications, handling typical charge currents of 10A to 50A comfortably. For extremely high-current fast-charging applications (above 50A), you may need specialised heavy-gauge leads, but for standard RC hobby charging, 12AWG provides excellent performance.
- How do I safely use this adapter? — Always verify correct polarity before connecting (black to negative, red to positive). Never force connectors together. Inspect the adapter regularly for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Store in a dry environment away from moisture. Always supervise charging and use an appropriate balance charger designed for your battery chemistry (LiPo, NiMH, etc.).
- Will this work with my brushless RC car? — This adapter works with any RC vehicle—brushless or brushed, 4WD, 2WD, or any other configuration—as long as your charger has an XT60 female connector and your battery features an XT90 male connector. It's completely independent of the vehicle's drive system or motor type.
- Why is colour coding important on charge leads? — The black and red colour coding ensures you can immediately identify positive and negative connections at a glance. This is critical because reversing polarity during charging can permanently damage batteries and charging equipment. Never use charge leads where the colour coding is worn away or unclear.
- Is this suitable for LiPo and NiMH batteries? — Yes, this adapter connector is compatible with both LiPo and NiMH battery chemistries. The XT60 and XT90 connector types themselves are chemistry-neutral. However, always use an appropriate balance charger designed for your specific battery chemistry.
- What is the difference between XT60 and XT90 connectors? — XT60 connectors are compact, popular on smaller RC vehicles and chargers, and typically rated for currents up to approximately 60A continuous. XT90 connectors are larger, more robust, and designed for higher-current applications, typically rated for continuous currents up to 90A or higher. The XT90 male connector's larger gold contacts handle heat dissipation better during high-current charging.
- How long will this adapter last? — With proper care, this copper-wire adapter should last for many years. Avoid repeatedly bending the cable sharply, keep connectors clean and dry, and store in a protected location. Inspect periodically for wear, corrosion on the contacts, or damaged insulation.
