Overview

The Traxxas TQi Transmitter with Traxxas Link enabled represents the latest generation in 2.4GHz radio control technology for RC cars in the UK and beyond. This second-generation TQi transmitter is specifically designed for drag racing applications, delivering high output performance on the 2.4GHz frequency band with 2-channel control. Whether you're a serious competitor looking to upgrade your RC drag racing setup or an experienced basher seeking reliable, modern radio control technology, this transmitter offers the precision and connectivity that serious RC enthusiasts demand. The TQi system has become the gold standard for Traxxas RC models, and this drag-specific version is engineered to give you the responsive control you need when every millisecond counts on the strip.

What sets this transmitter apart from legacy RC radio systems is its integration with Traxxas Link wireless technology, which opens up a world of telemetry possibilities for your RC vehicle. Unlike older grey-case 2.4GHz transmitters or basic radio control systems, the second-generation TQi uses the modern Traxxas Link Wireless Module (item no. 6511) instead of a docking base, making it more versatile and future-proof. The transmitter features the distinctive blue "i" in the TQi logo, which identifies it as part of Traxxas's latest radio control system family. For UK RC enthusiasts and ready-to-run RC car owners, this represents a significant upgrade path from earlier systems.

This transmitter-only package is perfect if you already have compatible Traxxas vehicles or receivers, or if you're looking to upgrade an existing RC setup. The high-output 2.4GHz capability ensures robust signal transmission without interference, a critical feature when you need reliable control during competitive drag racing. The 2-channel configuration is specifically optimised for drag racing applications where throttle and steering are your primary control requirements, keeping the system simple, responsive, and focused on what matters most.

Key Features

  • Second-Generation TQi 2.4GHz Technology — This is Traxxas's latest radio control platform, identified by the blue "i" logo, offering improved reliability and future compatibility with telemetry-enabled receivers compared to legacy Traxxas transmitters. The 2.4GHz frequency operates in the globally recognised unlicensed band, ensuring compatibility with RC equipment worldwide and freedom from frequency licensing requirements.
  • Traxxas Link Wireless Module Compatible — Rather than relying on outdated docking base technology, this transmitter works with the modern Traxxas Link Wireless Module (item no. 6511), enabling live telemetry data transmission to compatible smart devices. This means you can gather real-time performance data including motor RPM, engine temperature, speed, and battery voltage while driving, displayed on the Traxxas Link dashboard for later analysis and performance optimisation.
  • High Output 2.4GHz Transmission — The high-output transmitter delivers strong, interference-free signal transmission across the 2.4GHz band, which is essential for maintaining responsive control during competitive RC drag racing where milliseconds matter. The frequency-hopping technology inherent to modern 2.4GHz systems provides security against signal interference from other RC equipment.
  • 2-Channel Drag Racing Configuration — Purpose-built for drag racing applications, this transmitter features 2-channel control optimised for throttle and steering inputs, eliminating unnecessary complexity and keeping your focus on the core racing functions. This configuration is lighter and more responsive than multi-channel systems, giving you the precise control needed for strip racing.
  • Compatible with Telemetry-Ready Receivers — This transmitter works with the 5-channel, telemetry-enabled #6533 receiver or the #6518 receiver, both of which support the latest Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) technology and full telemetry integration. It is also backward compatible with the #2218X and #6519 receivers, though these older receivers do not support telemetry or model memory features.
  • Stability Management Support — When paired with the appropriate receiver (6533 or 6518), this transmitter supports Traxxas Stability Management (TSM), which helps maintain control and traction during aggressive driving, particularly valuable in competitive drag racing scenarios where vehicle stability directly impacts performance.
  • Transmitter Only Package — This listing includes only the transmitter unit, making it ideal for users upgrading existing Traxxas RC systems or building custom setups. You'll need to source a compatible receiver separately, but this approach gives you flexibility in configuring your exact RC drag racing setup.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas TQi second-generation transmitter represents a significant advancement in 2.4GHz RC radio technology. Operating on the globally recognised 2.4GHz frequency band, this transmitter delivers high-output signal strength ensuring responsive, interference-free control of your RC drag racing vehicle. The 2-channel configuration has been specifically engineered for drag racing applications where throttle control and steering precision are paramount, with no extraneous channels to add weight or complexity to the system. The transmitter integrates seamlessly with the Traxxas Link Wireless Module ecosystem, providing a gateway to advanced telemetry capabilities when paired with compatible receivers such as the #6518 or #6533. The #6533 receiver includes Traxxas Stability Management (TSM), a proprietary system that continuously monitors vehicle dynamics and applies corrective throttle and steering inputs to maintain optimal traction and control during high-speed runs. This is the same fundamental technology found in ready-to-run Traxxas RC models available throughout the UK and internationally. The physical design maintains the same case styling as previous TQi transmitters, ensuring familiarity for users upgrading from earlier systems, whilst the blue "i" logo clearly identifies this as the latest second-generation TQi platform. For competitive UK RC drag racing, this transmitter provides the precision control and modern connectivity features that separate serious competitors from casual enthusiasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Traxxas TQi transmitter compatible with my existing RC drag racing setup? — The TQi transmitter is compatible with several Traxxas receiver models. The recommended receivers are the #6533 (which includes Traxxas Stability Management) or #6518, both of which are 5-channel, telemetry-enabled micro receivers. It is also backward compatible with the #2218X and #6519 receivers, though these do not support telemetry. However, it is NOT compatible with the original grey-case Traxxas 2.4GHz system or its #2217 receiver. If you have this older system, you can explore Traxxas's Power-Up Programme for a discounted trade-up option.
  • Can I enable telemetry with this transmitter? — Yes, absolutely. To enable live telemetry with this TQi transmitter, you will need three additional components: a #6518 or #6533 receiver installed in your vehicle, the Traxxas Link Wireless Module (item no. 6511), and a compatible iOS or Android mobile device running the free Traxxas Link application. Your vehicle will also need telemetry sensors; some Traxxas models include these pre-installed, whilst others use internal ESC readings. Once configured, you can view real-time data including motor RPM, temperature, speed, and battery voltage on the Traxxas Link dashboard, with the ability to record and playback this data later for performance analysis.
  • What makes this transmitter suitable for drag racing? — This transmitter features a 2-channel drag-specific configuration optimised for throttle and steering control, the two functions essential to competitive drag racing. The purpose-built drag layout eliminates unnecessary channels that would add weight and complexity, allowing you to focus entirely on throttle modulation and steering precision during strip racing. The high-output 2.4GHz transmission ensures responsive control without lag or interference, critical when races are decided by fractions of a second.
  • Is this transmitter suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a professional-grade transmitter packed with advanced features, it can be used by beginners provided they have a compatible Traxxas RC vehicle and the appropriate receiver. However, beginners will need to learn how to bind the transmitter to their vehicle's receiver following Traxxas instructions. The telemetry features are optional, so a beginner can use the basic 2-channel control without needing the Traxxas Link Wireless Module or smartphone connectivity. This makes it suitable for anyone looking to upgrade from basic radio control systems or integrate into the Traxxas ecosystem.
  • What is the difference between this TQi transmitter and older Traxxas radio systems? — The second-generation TQi represents a major upgrade over legacy systems. The key differences include: it uses the modern Traxxas Link Wireless Module instead of a docking base, it supports full telemetry integration with compatible receivers, it features a 5-channel receiver option (#6518 or #6533) with Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) support, and it offers model memory capabilities. Legacy grey-case Traxxas 2.4GHz transmitters are only compatible with their own #2217 receiver and cannot be upgraded to telemetry. The TQi platform is future-proof and represents Traxxas's commitment to modern radio control technology.
  • Do I need a Traxxas Link Wireless Module to use this transmitter? — No. The Traxxas Link Wireless Module (item no. 6511) is only required if you want to enable telemetry functionality and connect to the Traxxas Link application on your smart device. The transmitter will work perfectly fine for standard 2-channel drag racing control without it.
