Key Features
- FASSTest 2.4 GHz Frequency — Operating on the secure 2.4 GHz FASSTest frequency, this receiver eliminates interference issues common with older RC systems and provides robust, reliable control across the UK and worldwide. The FASSTest protocol is the industry standard for modern RC systems, offering superior performance and compatibility with contemporary Futaba transmitters.
- Dual Antenna Diversity — The dual antenna diversity system automatically switches between two antennas to maintain optimal signal reception throughout your flight envelope. This advanced feature prevents signal dropout and ensures consistent, reliable control even in challenging RF environments, which is essential for safe and precise RC aircraft operation.
- 1-Channel PWM Output with 26-Channel S.BUS Support — Whilst the receiver features a single dedicated PWM output channel, it supports an impressive 26 channels via S.BUS and S.BUS2 protocols. This versatility allows you to use the receiver with a wide variety of servo types and control systems, from traditional PWM servos to modern Futaba-compatible S.BUS devices.
- Integrated Telemetry Capability — Built-in telemetry support allows you to monitor vital system parameters and receiver status during flight. This real-time feedback helps you diagnose any issues and optimise your RC model's performance, giving you the data you need for confident, informed flying.
- S.BUS and S.BUS2 Protocol Support — Full compatibility with both S.BUS and the newer S.BUS2 protocol means you can integrate advanced servos, mixing units, and telemetry devices into your RC system. This forward-compatible design ensures your investment remains relevant as RC technology evolves.
- Ultra-Compact Design — At just 39.5×21.5×6.5mm and weighing only 4.9 grams, the R7201SB is one of the smallest receivers available, making it perfect for weight-critical RC aircraft, parkflyers, and lightweight model designs. The small footprint allows installation in tight fuselages and confined spaces where larger receivers simply won't fit.
- Wide Operating Voltage Range — Supporting 4.8V to 7.4V DC battery power, this receiver is compatible with standard NiMH battery packs and LiPo batteries commonly used in RC models. The flexible voltage range means you can power the receiver from virtually any standard RC battery configuration.
- Lightweight Construction — At just 4.2-4.9 grams depending on configuration, every gram of mass has been carefully engineered to provide structural integrity whilst minimising overall weight. This is crucial for RC aircraft where payload capacity directly affects performance and flight characteristics.
Technical Performance
The Futaba R7201SB represents the culmination of decades of Futaba's expertise in RC radio systems. Built with precision engineering and premium components, this receiver delivers the reliability and performance demanded by serious RC pilots. The FASSTest 2.4 GHz technology provides crystal-clear communication between your transmitter and receiver, with the dual antenna diversity system ensuring you maintain a strong, stable link throughout your flight envelope. The receiver's compact dimensions of 39.5×21.5×6.5mm combined with its featherweight 4.9-gram mass make it ideal for RC aircraft applications where every gram matters. Operating across a 4.8V to 7.4V power range, the receiver works efficiently with standard RC battery packs, and the telemetry integration provides real-time feedback on receiver health and signal quality. The single PWM channel pairs with 26-channel S.BUS/S.BUS2 capability, allowing you to control multiple functions and integrate sophisticated RC systems. The receiver's compatibility with the FASSTest 2/4 GHz system means it works seamlessly with Futaba's extensive range of transmitters and system components, whilst the S.BUS protocol support ensures compatibility with modern servo technology and mixing devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba R7201SB suitable for beginner RC pilots? — The R7201SB is best suited to intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who already operate Futaba FASSTest systems. If you're new to RC flying, you'll need to first acquire a compatible Futaba transmitter and familiarise yourself with the FASSTest system. However, once you have the required transmitter, the receiver itself is straightforward to install and use, as it requires only connection to your servo(s) and battery pack.
- What battery voltage does this receiver need? — The R7201SB operates across a 4.8V to 7.4V DC power range, making it compatible with both traditional 4-cell NiMH battery packs (which provide approximately 4.8V) and 2-cell LiPo batteries (which provide approximately 7.4V when fully charged). You can power the receiver from whatever battery configuration you use for your RC model, provided it falls within this voltage window.
- Can I use this receiver with S.BUS servos? — Yes! The R7201SB supports both traditional PWM servos via its single PWM output channel and modern S.BUS-compatible servos via the S.BUS or S.BUS2 protocol. This versatility means you can build systems using either servo type, or mix both on the same model for maximum flexibility.
- What is the difference between PWM and S.BUS output? — The receiver features one dedicated PWM channel for traditional analogue servo control, whilst also supporting up to 26 channels via the S.BUS and S.BUS2 digital protocols. PWM is the older, simpler standard that works with virtually all RC servos, whilst S.BUS allows you to chain multiple servos on a single data line and enables advanced telemetry features. For most applications, you'll use either the PWM output for simple single-channel control or S.BUS for more complex multi-channel systems.
- Is dual antenna diversity really necessary? — Yes, dual antenna diversity is a valuable feature that automatically selects the strongest signal from two antennas, preventing signal dropout and ensuring consistent control throughout your flight. This is particularly important for RC aircraft operations where signal loss could result in loss of control and potential damage or injury. The diversity system adds negligible weight and provides meaningful reliability benefits.
- How does this receiver compare to other Futaba air receivers? — The R7201SB is specifically designed as a compact, lightweight option for weight-sensitive applications like sport aircraft and parkflyers. It features the latest FASSTest 2.4 GHz technology, integrated telemetry, and S.BUS support. Other Futaba receivers may offer different channel counts or physical configurations suited to different model types, but the R7201SB represents Futaba's state-of-the-art technology in a minimalist, weight-optimised package.
- Do I need a special setup procedure? — The receiver sets up with your compatible Futaba FASSTest transmitter through the standard binding procedure. No special configuration is required — once bound to your transmitter, the receiver is ready to use. The F/S (fail-safe) voltage is set via your transmitter, allowing you to programme safety responses if the signal is lost.
- What makes Futaba FASSTest technology special? — FASSTest is Futaba's advanced 2.4 GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology that provides secure, interference-free communication. The system operates across multiple frequencies simultaneously, making it extremely resistant to interference from Wi-Fi, mobile phones, and other 2.4 GHz devices. This is the industry standard for modern RC systems and offers superior performance compared to older fixed-frequency systems.
