Overview
The Futaba R7206SB is a premium 6-channel FASSTest air receiver designed specifically for RC aircraft enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. This compact and lightweight receiver represents the pinnacle of Futaba's receiver technology, offering advanced dual-link bi-directional communication that ensures reliable control of your RC aircraft even in challenging conditions. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, or other aerial models, this receiver delivers the precision and dependability that serious RC pilots demand. The R7206SB is an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their RC radio system or build a new aircraft from scratch.
What makes the Futaba R7206SB stand out in the crowded RC receiver market is its combination of proven FASSTest technology with modern digital communication protocols. Unlike basic PWM-only receivers, this unit supports S.BUS and S.BUS2 connectivity, allowing you to connect up to 26 channels through the S.BUS port whilst maintaining 6 dedicated PWM channels for traditional servo connections. This flexibility means you can expand your aircraft's capabilities with minimal additional wiring, making installation cleaner and more professional. The receiver's diminutive size—measuring just 38.3 x 22.5 x 12.2mm—makes it ideal for streamlined installations in everything from small electric trainers to complex scale aircraft.
Futaba has been a recognised leader in RC radio control since 1962, and the R7206SB reflects decades of engineering expertise. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking for a reliable, feature-rich air receiver that won't compromise on performance or reliability, the R7206SB delivers exceptional value and proven performance in the field.
Key Features
- FASSTest Dual Link Technology — This advanced communication system provides bi-directional data transmission between your transmitter and receiver, allowing not only control signals but also telemetry information to flow back to your radio system for real-time aircraft monitoring and diagnostics.
- 6-Channel PWM Output — The receiver provides six independent PWM channels for direct servo connection, offering traditional reliability and compatibility with virtually all RC aircraft servo types and configurations.
- S.BUS and S.BUS2 Support — Beyond the six PWM channels, the dedicated S.BUS port can handle up to 26 channels total through digital protocol, massively expanding the number of functions you can control on a single receiver without adding physical size or weight.
- Wide Operating Voltage Range — With a power requirement of 3.7V to 7.4V and an operating voltage range extending to 8.4V, this receiver works seamlessly with single-cell LiPo batteries, two-cell LiPo packs, or traditional NiMH battery configurations, giving you flexibility in powering your aircraft.
- Compact and Lightweight Design — Weighing just 8.8 grams with dimensions of only 38.3 x 22.5 x 12.2mm, the R7206SB can fit into even tightly-packed airframes without adding significant weight that would compromise flight performance.
- Dual Antenna Diversity — The receiver incorporates dual antenna support with diversity selection, automatically switching between antennas to maintain the strongest signal reception, which is crucial for reliable control during longer flights or in areas with RF interference.
- Bi-Directional Communication — Unlike standard one-way receivers, the R7206SB enables two-way communication with compatible Futaba transmitters, allowing you to receive telemetry data about your aircraft's systems and status in real time.
Technical Performance
The Futaba R7206SB represents a significant advancement in air receiver design, combining proven FASSTest command protocol with modern digital S.BUS and S.BUS2 architecture. The receiver's engineering prioritises both reliability and flexibility—the 6 dedicated PWM channels ensure compatibility with any standard RC servo, whilst the S.BUS port opens up possibilities for advanced installations with multiple digital servos, programmable controllers, and telemetry modules. The wide voltage acceptance range of 3.5V to 8.4V makes this receiver incredibly adaptable to different power setups; whether you're using a single-cell 3.7V LiPo battery, a two-cell 7.4V pack, or even pushing towards the higher voltage tolerance, the receiver handles it gracefully. The compact form factor measuring 38.3 x 22.5 x 12.2mm ensures minimal impact on your aircraft's weight budget—at just 8.8 grams, this is one of the lightest options available for serious RC pilots. The inclusion of dual antenna diversity with automatic selection means you'll maintain consistent signal lock even in challenging RF environments. Build quality is excellent throughout, with professional-grade components and careful attention to detail that reflects Futaba's six decades of expertise in radio control technology. The receiver supports full S.BUS/S.BUS2 digital protocol alongside traditional PWM, giving you the option to expand your system capabilities without replacing the receiver.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba R7206SB suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst the R7206SB is a capable receiver that professional pilots love, its straightforward 6-channel PWM interface makes it accessible for beginners. If you're starting with a basic trainer aircraft, the 6 PWM channels are more than sufficient for aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, and two additional functions. As you progress and want to add more sophisticated control (retractable landing gear, flaps, multiple flight modes), the S.BUS capability allows easy expansion without receiver replacement.
- What transmitter do I need to use with the R7206SB? — The R7206SB is specifically designed for Futaba FASSTest transmitters. Any modern Futaba radio system marked as FASSTest compatible will work with this receiver. The receiver is not compatible with non-Futaba brands or older Futaba systems using different protocols.
- What battery should I use to power this receiver? — The receiver requires between 3.7V and 7.4V for optimal operation, though it can tolerate voltage up to 8.4V. This means you can use a single-cell LiPo battery (3.7V nominal), a two-cell LiPo pack (7.4V nominal), or traditional NiMH batteries. Most RC pilots use a 2S LiPo (7.4V) or a dedicated receiver battery pack for powering the receiver and servos independently from the main flight battery.
- What is S.BUS and why should I care about it? — S.BUS is a digital serial communication protocol that allows multiple servo channels to be controlled through a single wire, rather than using one wire per channel. Whilst this receiver provides 6 PWM channels, the S.BUS port can handle up to 26 channels total, making it ideal for complex aircraft with many control surfaces. S.BUS also enables two-way communication, allowing telemetry data to flow back to your transmitter.
- Can I use standard servos with the R7206SB? — Yes, the 6 PWM channels accept any standard RC servo regardless of brand. For more advanced installations using S.BUS, you'll need digital servos that support the S.BUS protocol, though these are increasingly common in the RC market.
- What does dual antenna diversity mean and why is it important? — The receiver has two antenna connections, and the internal circuitry automatically selects whichever antenna is receiving the strongest signal. This feature dramatically improves reliability during flight, particularly in areas with RF interference or when flying at distance, as the receiver never relies on a single weak antenna.
- How does the R7206SB compare to other Futaba receivers? — The R7206SB occupies a sweet spot in Futaba's receiver lineup—it offers more channels than basic 4-channel receivers yet is more compact and affordable than some other 6-channel models. The inclusion of S.BUS/S.BUS2 support gives it significantly more expansion potential than simpler receivers, making it excellent value for pilots wanting future-proofing.
- Is this receiver waterproof or weather-resistant? — Whilst the R7206SB is robust and well-built, it is not specifically waterproof. For seaplane or amphibious aircraft, you should house the receiver in a waterproofed compartment or consider a receiver specifically designed for wet environments.
- What does the technical note about ground pin orientation mean? — The receiver's servo and S.BUS connections have a specific orientation: the ground pin should be positioned upward and the signal wire toward the bottom. This is just a layout detail—as long as you connect the wires correctly to your servos, the orientation of the connector shell doesn't affect performance, but proper alignment prevents accidental miswiring.
