Overview
The Futaba HPS-CT702 Low Profile Brushless Servo is a high-performance, high-voltage surface servo engineered specifically for RC car enthusiasts in the UK who demand precision, speed and reliability in competitive driving conditions. Whether you're piloting a drift car, a 1/10 scale on-road racer, or an off-road buggy, this brushless servo delivers the responsiveness and torque needed to execute sharp steering inputs and maintain control through demanding manoeuvres. Built by Futaba, the world-leading name in RC radio systems and servos since 1962, the HPS-CT702 represents the pinnacle of servo technology for modern RC cars smaller than 1/5 scale.
This low-profile servo is purpose-designed for tight servo bays in contemporary 1/10 scale chassis, where space is at a premium and every millimetre counts. With its compact dimensions of just 40.5 × 21.0 × 26.2 mm and featherweight construction at 53 grams, the HPS-CT702 minimises rotational inertia and reduces unsprung weight, translating to faster response times and improved vehicle handling characteristics. If you're serious about RC racing in the UK and want a servo that won't compromise your setup, the HPS-CT702 is a trusted choice for competitors and enthusiasts alike.
The servo combines brushless motor technology with high-voltage capability, metal gear construction, and an aluminium case to deliver durability that withstands the rigours of repeated competitive use. It supports PWM, S.BUS, and S.BUS2 protocols, ensuring compatibility with modern Futaba radio systems and aftermarket receivers that support these industry-standard command protocols.
Key Features
- Brushless Motor Technology — The HPS-CT702 uses a brushless motor design that eliminates carbon brush friction, resulting in smoother operation, reduced heat generation, and significantly extended service life compared to brushed servo motors, making it an excellent long-term investment for serious RC car drivers.
- High-Voltage Capable (4.8V–8.4V Operating Range) — This servo thrives on high-voltage battery supplies, with a rated voltage of 6.0–7.4V and an extended operating range extending to 8.4V, allowing you to extract maximum performance and torque from your LiPo battery setup whilst maintaining compatibility with lower voltage systems if needed.
- S.BUS and S.BUS2 Protocol Support — The servo communicates via PWM, S.BUS, and S.BUS2, providing compatibility with all modern Futaba radio systems and aftermarket receivers, enabling seamless integration into your existing RC car radio control setup without requiring adapters or workarounds.
- SR Mode (Super Response) — Super Response mode delivers ultra-fast servo response for precision steering inputs, critical when competing in drift competitions or high-speed on-road racing where milliseconds of delay can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
- Low-Profile Form Factor — Engineered to fit into the shallow servo bays of contemporary 1/10 scale chassis designs, the HPS-CT702's compact profile allows for optimised chassis geometry and weight distribution without forcing compromises in your setup.
- Metal Gear Construction — The servo features metal gears throughout the 1–3 gear stages, with a particularly robust high-strength metal final stage gear, providing exceptional durability and resistance to stripping under extreme load conditions common in competitive racing.
- Aluminium Case Construction — The top, middle, and bottom case components are machined from aluminium alloy, providing superior heat dissipation, rigidity, and impact resistance compared to plastic-case servos, whilst keeping weight to a minimum.
- 25-Tooth Metal Spline Output — The servo features a 25-tooth metal spline (6mm diameter) that is robust and compatible with a wide range of servo horns and aftermarket steering linkages available for 1/10 scale RC cars in the UK market.
Technical Performance
The Futaba HPS-CT702 delivers genuine flagship-level servo performance through its combination of brushless motor technology, high-voltage capability, and precision engineering. At 7.4V, the servo produces 30.0 kgf·cm of torque and executes a full 60-degree rotation in just 0.07 seconds—blistering speed that translates to instantaneous steering response in real-world driving. Even at the more modest 6.0V operating voltage, performance remains competitive with 23.0 kgf·cm of torque and 0.08-second transit time. The brushless motor design is a critical component of this performance advantage: unlike brushed motors that suffer from friction losses and carbon dust build-up, brushless designs operate with minimal mechanical resistance, allowing the servo to respond more crisply and maintain precision through hundreds of hours of use without degradation. The servo's 53-gram weight is a masterclass in engineering efficiency, achieved through the aluminium case construction and careful material selection throughout. This lightweight profile is crucial for RC car dynamics; every gram saved in unsprung weight translates directly to improved suspension compliance, faster weight transfer during cornering, and reduced gyroscopic effects that would otherwise impede steering accuracy. The metal gear set, particularly the high-strength final stage, is engineered to handle the brutal shock loads and continuous torque demands of competitive driving without slipping or stripping, ensuring consistent performance lap after lap without maintenance downtime. Operating voltage flexibility is a genuine practical advantage: the servo functions across a 4.8–8.4V range, meaning you can run it on 2S LiPo batteries at lower voltage for smoother operation, or push it hard on 8.4V for maximum performance and speed, depending on your specific racing conditions and personal preference. The multi-protocol support (PWM, S.BUS, S.BUS2) ensures this servo will remain relevant and compatible with Futaba radio systems for years to come, protecting your investment in an expensive piece of equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the HPS-CT702 and standard servo models? — The HPS-CT702 is specifically engineered for drift and 1/10 scale on/off-road cars, featuring a low-profile form factor that fits contemporary chassis designs, brushless motor technology for superior responsiveness, and support for modern S.BUS2 protocols. Standard servos may not offer the same compact size, response speed, or protocol compatibility, making this a purpose-built solution rather than a universal compromise.
- Is the Futaba HPS-CT702 suitable for beginners? — This servo is designed for competitive and experienced drivers rather than absolute beginners, as it requires a Futaba radio system supporting PWM, S.BUS, or S.BUS2 protocols, and is optimised for high-performance driving techniques. Beginners should start with more basic setups and progress to this servo once they have developed their skills and understand servo specifications.
- What battery does this servo need? — The HPS-CT702 operates across 4.8–8.4V, making it compatible with 2S LiPo batteries. The rated voltage is 6.0–7.4V, meaning a 2S LiPo at full charge (8.4V) will work within the servo's operating range, though many users run it at 6.0V for smoother operation or 7.4V for maximum performance. Always check your radio system and ESC specifications to ensure compatibility.
- Can I use the HPS-CT702 on any RC car? — This servo is specifically designed for RC cars smaller than 1/5 scale, making it ideal for 1/10 scale vehicles including drift cars, touring cars, buggies and stadium trucks. It will not work on 1/8 or larger vehicles, and its low-profile design requires a shallow servo bay typical of modern 1/10 scale chassis. Always verify that your chassis has a compatible servo bay before purchasing.
- What makes brushless servo motors better than brushed? — Brushless motors eliminate carbon brush friction, generating less heat and delivering more consistent performance over extended use periods. They respond faster, maintain precision without maintenance, and deliver superior longevity—critical advantages in competitive RC racing where reliability directly impacts your results.
- Does the HPS-CT702 support my existing Futaba radio system? — The servo supports PWM, S.BUS, and S.BUS2 protocols, covering virtually all modern Futaba radio systems sold in the UK. Check your specific radio model's documentation to confirm protocol compatibility, but odds are excellent that this servo will integrate seamlessly into your existing setup.
