Overview

The Futaba GYD470 Drift RC Car Counter-Steer Gyro is a precision-engineered rate gyro specifically designed for drift RC cars, delivering the steering control excellence that serious drift enthusiasts demand. This compact and lightweight gyro represents the pinnacle of Futaba's expertise in radio control technology, built to transform your 1/10 scale RC drift car's handling characteristics with wireless adjustment and dual operating modes. Whether you're a seasoned RC drift competitor looking to fine-tune your setup or an enthusiast exploring the exhilarating world of RC drifting, the GYD470 offers the advanced features and reliability you need to master the art of controlled sliding.

Designed exclusively for use with Futaba transmitters, receivers and servos, the GYD470 integrates seamlessly into Futaba ecosystems and provides SR compatibility for enhanced flexibility. This dedicated drift gyro has been engineered from the ground up to understand the unique demands of drift RC cars, where precise counter-steering input is essential for maintaining controlled slides and executing technical manoeuvres. The gyro's compact form factor means it installs easily into tight spaces within your RC drift car chassis, whilst its featherweight construction at just 3.7 grams ensures it won't compromise your vehicle's weight distribution or performance characteristics.

For anyone serious about RC car drifting in the UK, the Futaba GYD470 is an essential upgrade that elevates your driving experience. The ability to adjust gyro gain remotely and switch between normal and AVCS modes whilst on the track gives you unprecedented control over your drift car's behaviour, allowing you to adapt instantly to different track conditions and driving styles without returning to your pit area.

Key Features

  • Dedicated RC Drift Car Setting — The GYD470 has been engineered specifically for drift RC cars rather than being a generic gyro, meaning every aspect of its programming and response characteristics are optimised for the unique steering demands of drift driving, delivering more intuitive control and better feedback than multi-purpose gyros.
  • Remote Gain Function and Mode Switching — Adjust your gyro settings wirelessly from your Futaba transmitter without needing to access the gyro directly, allowing you to fine-tune gain levels and switch between normal and AVCS operation modes mid-session to adapt instantly to changing track conditions and driving preferences.
  • Integrated, Compact and Lightweight Design — Measuring just 20.5 x 20.5 x 11mm and weighing only 3.7 grams, the GYD470 fits into confined spaces within your RC drift car chassis without adding significant weight, helping maintain the optimal weight distribution critical for drift performance.
  • Easy Setup and Installation — The GYD470 is quick to install and straightforward to configure, minimising the time between unboxing and enjoying your first drift sessions whilst remaining simple enough for newcomers to RC gyros to operate confidently.
  • S.BUS and S.BUS2 Connectivity Support — Compatibility with both S.BUS and S.BUS2 serial protocols ensures the GYD470 works seamlessly with a wide range of Futaba receivers and radio systems, providing flexible integration into both older and newer Futaba setups.
  • SR Compatible — SR (Select Remote) compatibility extends the gyro's usability across different Futaba receiver types, giving you broader options when configuring your RC drift car's radio system.

Technical Performance

The Futaba GYD470 represents precision engineering at its finest, built to deliver the split-second response and stability that drift RC car enthusiasts demand. Operating across a voltage range of DC 4.2 to 8.4 volts, the gyro accommodates a variety of battery configurations common in 1/10 scale RC cars, from single-cell LiPo setups through to multi-cell battery packs used in more complex installations. The gyro's compact dimensions of 20.5 x 20.5 x 11 millimetres provide impressive capability in a form factor that doesn't compromise your drift car's tight internal packaging, whilst the 3.7-gram weight ensures negligible impact on vehicle dynamics. The GYD470 communicates via PWM, S.BUS and S.BUS2 protocols, making it compatible with the full spectrum of modern Futaba receivers available to UK RC enthusiasts. The dual operating modes—normal and AVCS—provide flexibility in how the gyro responds to steering inputs, allowing experienced drivers to exploit different modes for various track conditions and driving techniques. The wireless gain adjustment capability eliminates the need for physical access to the gyro during tuning sessions, representing a significant advantage during competitive events where every second of adjustment time counts. The black finish blends seamlessly with most RC drift car chassis designs, maintaining a professional appearance regardless of your vehicle's colour scheme.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba GYD470 suitable for RC drift beginners, or does it require advanced experience? — Whilst the GYD470 is capable of professional-level performance, its easy setup and intuitive wireless control functions make it accessible to enthusiasts new to gyro-equipped drift cars. The straightforward installation process and clear documentation mean beginners can start using the gyro confidently without extensive technical knowledge, though understanding drift fundamentals will help you exploit the gyro's full potential.
  • What voltage battery does the Futaba GYD470 require? — The GYD470 operates from DC 4.2 to 8.4 volts, accommodating single-cell LiPo batteries (4.2V nominal) through to 2S LiPo packs (8.4V nominal), and even lower-voltage older battery technologies. This wide voltage range makes the gyro compatible with most power systems used in 1/10 scale RC drift cars across the UK.
  • Will the GYD470 work with non-Futaba receivers and transmitters? — Futaba has designed the GYD470 specifically for use with Futaba transmitters, receivers and servos. Whilst the gyro supports PWM, S.BUS and S.BUS2 protocols which are industry-standard, using non-Futaba radio equipment may result in improper operation or compromised functionality. For optimal performance and reliability, pairing the GYD470 with genuine Futaba radio components is strongly recommended.
  • What is the difference between normal mode and AVCS mode on this gyro? — The GYD470 provides two operational modes: normal mode for standard gyro operation and AVCS (Advanced Vector Control System) mode for more sophisticated steering response characteristics. AVCS mode delivers enhanced control and stability through advanced vector control algorithms, making it ideal for experienced drivers tackling challenging track layouts or executing complex drift techniques, whilst normal mode provides reliable performance suitable for learning and general drifting.
  • How quickly can I switch between gyro modes during a drive session? — One of the standout features of the GYD470 is remote mode switching via your Futaba transmitter, allowing you to change between normal and AVCS modes instantly during driving without physical access to the gyro unit. This wireless control capability lets you adapt to evolving track conditions or experiment with different driving techniques during the same session.
  • Is the GYD470 waterproof? — The product specifications do not explicitly confirm waterproof rating; however, the compact sealed design and professional engineering suggest the gyro can tolerate normal moisture exposure. For optimum longevity, minimise direct water contact and allow the gyro to dry after wet conditions.
  • What RC drift cars is the GYD470 compatible with? — The GYD470 is designed for use with 1/10 scale RC drift cars using Futaba radio systems. Compatibility extends across most major 1/10 drift car platforms including Yokomo, HPI, Tamiya and other manufacturers, provided the vehicle uses a standard servo connector and runs Futaba receiver and transmitter equipment.
