Overview
The Futaba WSC-1 Wireless Simulator Dongle S-FHSS is a compact USB device that transforms your RC transmitter into a wireless flight simulator controller. Whether you're an RC enthusiast in the UK looking to improve your piloting skills without flying your expensive models, or someone new to RC who wants to learn the fundamentals of radio control, this wireless dongle bridges the gap between your physical transmitter and popular RC flight simulators on your Windows PC. Established in 1975, Futaba has been a trusted name in radio control technology, and the WSC-1 represents their commitment to making training and simulation accessible to RC pilots of all levels.
This ingenious device enables direct wireless communication between your S-FHSS protocol transmitter and supported RC simulators running on Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 computers. Rather than being tethered to your PC with cables, you can now enjoy the freedom of wireless control whilst practicing on screen. The WSC-1 is particularly valuable for RC car enthusiasts, drone pilots, and helicopter flyers who want to refine their skills in bad weather, during the winter months, or when they simply cannot access their local flying field. The compact, lightweight design makes it an ideal solution for desktop simulator setups, and its straightforward USB plug-and-play installation means you can be up and running within minutes of unboxing.
Futaba's reputation for quality and reliability is evident in the WSC-1's engineering. This is a purpose-built device from a manufacturer with over 75 years of expertise in RC control systems, making it a recognised choice for serious RC hobbyists across the UK and beyond.
Key Features
- Wireless S-FHSS 8-Channel Protocol — The WSC-1 communicates wirelessly with your transmitter using Futaba's S-FHSS (Spread Frequency Hopping System) protocol with 8 channels of control, providing secure, lag-free transmission between your physical controller and flight simulator. This frequency-hopping technology ensures reliable connection and resistance to interference, which is essential for realistic simulator training.
- USB 2.0 Plug-and-Play Connection — Simply connect the dongle to any USB 2.0 port on your Windows PC and you're ready to begin. The USB Series A connector is standard on virtually all modern computers, and the device draws power directly from the USB bus, eliminating the need for external power supplies or batteries. This makes setup straightforward for beginners and experienced RC pilots alike.
- Compatible with Popular RC Simulators — The WSC-1 works with the most popular RC flight and driving simulators available for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, allowing you to practise with your own transmitter rather than using a generic controller. This maintains your muscle memory and controller familiarity, making the transition from simulator to real-world flying or driving seamless.
- Wireless Operating Range up to 10 Metres — With a maximum operating range of approximately 10 metres (32.8 feet) without obstacles under optimum conditions, you have plenty of freedom to position yourself comfortably away from your monitor whilst maintaining a responsive wireless link. This range is ideal for desktop and home simulator setups.
- Compact and Lightweight Design — Measuring just 18.2 x 56.5 x 9.0 millimetres and weighing only 7.5 grams, the WSC-1 is extremely portable. You can easily transport it between locations, store it in a transmitter bag, or simply leave it connected to your PC without creating clutter on your desk.
- Robust Operating Environment — The device operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -10°C to 45°C (14°F to 113°F), making it suitable for use in various indoor environments and ensuring stable performance year-round in UK homes and RC clubs.
- USB Bus Powered at 5.0V — The WSC-1 operates from standard USB bus power at 5.0V ± 0.2V, meaning there are no batteries to charge, no external power adapters to connect, and minimal power consumption. This is perfect for long training sessions without worrying about power management.
Technical Performance
The Futaba WSC-1 represents a carefully engineered solution for wireless simulator control, combining proven radio frequency technology with practical ergonomic design. The device utilises Futaba's reliable S-FHSS protocol, which has been battle-tested across thousands of RC applications worldwide. This frequency-hopping transmission method ensures that your control signals maintain integrity and responsiveness even in environments with potential radio interference. The USB 2.0 interface provides ample bandwidth for 8-channel control data transmission with minimal latency, which is critical when simulator accuracy and real-world control feel matter. The compact physical dimensions of 18.2mm × 56.5mm × 9.0mm mean the dongle occupies minimal space on or near your PC setup, whilst its featherweight mass of just 7.5 grams ensures it places no strain on USB ports even during extended use. The engineering focus on thermal stability, with operation across a -10°C to 45°C temperature range, ensures consistent performance whether you're training during cold winter months or warm summer weather in the UK. Power delivery directly from the USB bus at regulated 5.0V ± 0.2V eliminates the need for external power management, making this a true plug-and-play solution that even beginners can confidently install and use immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba WSC-1 suitable for beginners new to RC flight simulators? — Absolutely. The WSC-1 is an excellent tool for anyone new to RC flying or driving. Rather than risking your first RC model, beginners can practise flight or driving techniques risk-free in a simulator whilst using their actual transmitter. This builds muscle memory with the correct controller and accelerates the learning curve significantly. The plug-and-play USB installation means beginners won't struggle with complex technical setup.
- What operating systems does the WSC-1 support? — The Futaba WSC-1 is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 only. It will not function with Mac OS, Linux, or other operating systems. Ensure your PC runs one of these two Windows versions before purchasing. Most modern gaming and work PCs meet this requirement.
- Does the WSC-1 require batteries or external power? — No. The device draws all its power directly from the USB bus of your computer at 5.0V ± 0.2V. There are no batteries to buy, charge, or replace, and no external power adapters required. Simply plug it into any available USB 2.0 port and you're powered up.
- What is the wireless range of the WSC-1? — The maximum operating range is approximately 10 metres (32.8 feet) without obstacles under optimum conditions. For typical indoor home or club setups, this range provides ample freedom to position yourself comfortably in front of your monitor whilst maintaining a responsive wireless connection. Performance may vary slightly depending on physical obstacles and radio interference in your environment.
- Which simulators work with the Futaba WSC-1? — The WSC-1 is compatible with the most popular RC flight and driving simulators available for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1. Futaba does not provide an exhaustive list, so it's advisable to check with your chosen simulator software to confirm compatibility before purchase. Most mainstream simulators support the S-FHSS protocol.
- Can I use the WSC-1 with non-Futaba transmitters? — No. The WSC-1 is designed exclusively for Futaba transmitters that use the S-FHSS protocol. It will not work with transmitters from other manufacturers, regardless of their protocol. Ensure you own a compatible Futaba S-FHSS transmitter before purchasing this dongle.
- How do I install and use the WSC-1? — Installation is straightforward. Connect the WSC-1 to any available USB 2.0 port on your Windows 10 or 8.1 PC using the USB Series A connector. Windows should automatically recognise the device. Launch your RC simulator software, configure it to detect the wireless dongle, and you're ready to fly or drive. No driver installation is typically required.
- Is the WSC-1 waterproof or weather-resistant? — The WSC-1 is an indoor USB device and is not waterproof or weather-resistant. It should only be used indoors in dry conditions. Keep it away from moisture, dust, and physical damage to ensure reliable operation and longevity.
