The Futaba R2008SB is a professional-grade 8-channel air receiver specifically engineered for RC aircraft models and aerial platforms. This compact yet powerful receiver combines traditional PWM channel control with modern S.BUS connectivity, making it an ideal choice for both experienced RC pilots and those stepping up to more advanced aircraft systems. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, gliders, or multi-rotor platforms, the R2008SB delivers the reliability and flexibility that Futaba has been renowned for since establishing itself as a leader in radio control technology back in 1948. For UK RC enthusiasts seeking a dependable air receiver with genuine Futaba quality and support, this model represents an excellent investment in your RC aircraft setup.

The R2008SB stands out in the competitive RC receiver market through its dual antenna design, which provides exceptional signal reliability and range for your airborne models. Operating across the 2.4 GHz frequency band, this receiver utilises both S-FHSS and FHSS protocols with automatic detection, meaning it will seamlessly adapt to your transmitter without requiring manual configuration. The ultra-compact dimensions of just 24.9 x 42.8 x 14.0 mm and featherweight 9.5 gram construction make it perfect for weight-conscious applications where every gram counts—whether you're building a scale model aircraft, an FPV racing drone, or a precision aerobatic platform. This is a receiver built for modern RC aviation where space constraints and weight limitations are critical design considerations.

What truly sets the R2008SB apart is its dual-protocol flexibility. With support for both S-FHSS and FHSS with auto-detection, you gain compatibility with a wide range of Futaba transmitters whilst maintaining the option to upgrade your radio system in future without needing to replace your receiver. The inclusion of both traditional PWM output alongside S.BUS connectivity means you can integrate this receiver with virtually any modern flight controller, servo controller, or autopilot system currently available on the UK RC market. Whether you're a weekend flyer or a serious competitive RC aircraft pilot, the R2008SB provides the professional-grade control and reliability you need.

Key Features

  • 8-Channel PWM Output — The receiver provides eight discrete PWM channels, giving you complete control over multiple aircraft functions simultaneously including throttle, ailerons, elevator, rudder, landing gear, flaps, and additional auxiliary functions. This channel count is the industry standard for advanced RC aircraft and ensures you won't outgrow the receiver as your models become more complex.
  • S.BUS Connectivity — In addition to traditional PWM channels, the R2008SB features dedicated S.BUS output, enabling integration with modern flight controllers and autopilot systems that utilise the efficient serial bus protocol. This single-wire protocol reduces wiring complexity and potential signal interference in crowded electronics installations.
  • S-FHSS and FHSS Protocol Support — The receiver automatically detects and adapts to both S-FHSS (Futaba's advanced frequency-hopping spread spectrum protocol) and legacy FHSS protocols, providing compatibility with a comprehensive range of Futaba transmitters. This automatic detection means you simply bind the receiver to your transmitter and it handles the protocol selection automatically.
  • Dual Antenna Design — Equipped with dual antennas, the R2008SB dramatically improves signal reliability and range compared to single-antenna receivers. This diversity system continuously monitors both antenna signals and automatically switches to the strongest signal path, virtually eliminating dropouts and ensuring consistent control authority throughout your flight envelope.
  • High-Voltage Capability — Operating from 4.8V through to 7.4V, this receiver works with both standard nickel-metal hydride battery packs and higher-voltage lithium polymer configurations. The wide voltage range provides flexibility in power system design and ensures stable operation regardless of your battery chemistry choice.
  • Compact and Lightweight Construction — Weighing just 9.5 grams and measuring only 24.9 x 42.8 x 14.0 millimetres, the R2008SB is among the most space-efficient receivers available for RC aircraft. This minimal footprint is crucial for scale model aircraft, lightweight trainers, and any application where every millimetre and gram affects flight performance and balance characteristics.
  • 2.4 GHz Frequency Band — Operating in the globally recognised 2.4 GHz frequency band ensures interference-free operation alongside WiFi, Bluetooth, and other RC systems. This frequency is internationally available and certified for RC use, making it suitable for flying in any country without regulatory concerns.

Technical Performance

The Futaba R2008SB represents the pinnacle of receiver engineering for modern RC aircraft applications. Built with Futaba's decades of expertise in radio control systems, this receiver utilises advanced frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology to deliver rock-solid signal reliability across the entire flight envelope. The dual antenna configuration provides automatic signal diversity, meaning the receiver constantly monitors both antenna feeds and intelligently selects the strongest signal path—this eliminates the dead zones that can plague single-antenna installations and ensures predictable control response even when flying in challenging orientations or locations. The receiver's operating voltage range of 4.8V to 7.4V DC demonstrates the robust power supply design, accommodating everything from traditional 4-cell NiMH packs through to 2-cell LiPo configurations without requiring additional regulators or converters. The PWM output channels deliver crisp, jitter-free servo commands with excellent timing accuracy, whilst the S.BUS output provides a high-speed serial protocol alternative for modern flight controllers. The compact 24.9 x 42.8 x 14.0 millimetre chassis and minimal 9.5 gram weight represent an exceptional engineering achievement, packing full 8-channel functionality into a form factor that fits easily in the nose cone or fuselage of virtually any RC aircraft model. This level of miniaturisation without compromising performance or reliability is characteristic of Futaba's premium receiver design philosophy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba R2008SB suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Yes, the R2008SB is suitable for beginners, though it's best paired with an appropriate beginner-friendly transmitter. The automatic protocol detection removes configuration complexity, and the dual antenna design provides forgiving, reliable signal coverage as you develop your piloting skills. The 8-channel capacity means you won't outgrow the receiver as you progress to more complex aircraft with flaps, retracts, and other auxiliary functions.
  • What voltage battery should I use with this receiver? — The R2008SB operates from 4.8V through to 7.4V DC, which means it works with 4-cell nickel-metal hydride packs (4.8V nominal), 5-cell NiMH packs (6.0V nominal), or 2-cell lithium polymer batteries (7.4V nominal). Choose your battery based on your aircraft's power requirements and servo specifications—the receiver itself has no minimum voltage concern and will function reliably across this entire range without requiring additional voltage regulators.
  • Can I use the R2008SB with non-Futaba transmitters? — No, the R2008SB is specifically designed for Futaba transmitters utilising S-FHSS or FHSS protocols. It is not compatible with transmitters from other manufacturers such as Spektrum, JR, or Sanwa. If you have a non-Futaba transmitter, you will need a receiver from that manufacturer instead.
  • What's the difference between the PWM and S.BUS outputs? — PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is the traditional RC protocol where each channel uses a separate signal wire with control information encoded in pulse width. S.BUS is a serial protocol where all channel data flows through a single wire at high speed, reducing wiring complexity and potential interference. Modern flight controllers increasingly favour S.BUS, but the R2008SB provides both options so you can choose whichever suits your particular application.
  • Is the R2008SB waterproof? — Whilst the R2008SB features robust construction typical of Futaba receivers, it is not formally rated as waterproof. For waterproof applications, protective enclosures or additional weatherproofing should be considered, particularly if flying in rain or wet conditions.
  • How many servo functions can I control with this receiver? — The R2008SB provides 8 independent PWM channels plus S.BUS output, meaning you can control eight separate servo functions. This covers standard aircraft controls (throttle, ailerons, elevator, rudder) plus four additional channels for landing gear, flaps, trim adjustment, or other auxiliary functions depending on your aircraft design.
  • What is the binding procedure for the R2008SB? — The binding procedure varies depending on your specific Futaba transmitter model. Consult your transmitter's manual for binding instructions. Generally, you'll enter binding mode on both transmitter and receiver, and they will automatically establish a secure link using the S-FHSS or FHSS protocol. The receiver will have a LED indicator that confirms successful binding.
