Overview

The Traxxas Shocks, GTR, 160mm, aluminium (Blue-anodised) (fully assembled without springs) (Rear, no threads) (2 pcs) TRX8461X represents premium suspension tuning for serious RC desert racing enthusiasts across the UK. These oil-filled long-travel dampers are engineered to deliver exceptional performance on the toughest terrain, providing the silky-smooth damping characteristics that separate competitive builds from casual weekend bashers. Whether you're pushing your Unlimited Desert Racer to its limits on technical desert tracks or tackling rough backyard terrain, these GTR shocks offer the refined suspension control needed to maintain speed and stability through demanding conditions.

GTR dampers have established themselves as the preferred choice for RC car UK enthusiasts who demand professional-grade suspension components. The 160mm length provides substantial travel capacity, allowing your UDR to absorb impacts effectively whilst maintaining control over bumpy surfaces. These shocks are particularly valued by builders seeking to upgrade or maintain their existing Traxxas desert racing platforms, offering a direct path to enhanced handling and durability without the need for a complete vehicle overhaul.

Finished in striking blue anodised aluminium, these shocks deliver both aesthetic appeal and functional excellence. The high-impact styling elevates the visual presentation of your Unlimited Desert Racer whilst the robust aluminium construction ensures these components keep looking fresh run after run, maintaining their appearance even through intense off-road sessions that would wear down lesser components.

Key Features

  • 160mm Long-Travel Design — The extended 160mm length provides substantial suspension travel that effectively absorbs impacts from rough terrain, rocks, and jumps, allowing your RC desert racer to maintain traction and control over uneven desert surfaces whilst reducing the shock forces transmitted to the chassis and internal components.
  • Oil-Filled Damping Performance — These shocks are filled with premium silicone oil that delivers consistently smooth and predictable damping characteristics, enabling fine-tuned suspension response that remains stable across varying speeds and terrain conditions without the harshness associated with underdamped systems.
  • Aluminium Body Construction — The lightweight yet durable aluminium bodies provide exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, protecting internal damping mechanisms whilst adding minimal mass to your suspension setup, and they resist corrosion during extended outdoor RC sessions.
  • Blue Anodised Finish — The professional blue anodised coating delivers a striking visual appearance that complements modern RC car builds whilst providing superior corrosion resistance and colour retention through numerous runs and cleaning sessions.
  • Fully Assembled Ready-to-Install — These shocks arrive completely assembled with oil already installed, meaning you can mount them directly onto your UDR without requiring separate damping oil purchases or time-consuming assembly procedures, making them ideal for rapid maintenance and upgrades.
  • Sold as Matched Pair — Each order includes two rear shocks, providing matched suspension geometry across the rear axle for balanced handling characteristics and consistent damping performance from side to side.
  • No-Thread Rear Configuration — The non-threaded design is specifically engineered for rear applications on compatible UDR models, ensuring proper fitment and alignment without compatibility issues or the need for adapters.
  • Springs Not Included — These dampers are sold without springs, allowing experienced builders to select springs independently based on their terrain preferences, driving style, and suspension tuning requirements for maximum customisation flexibility.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTR 160mm shocks represent a significant engineering achievement in RC suspension design, combining precision-manufactured aluminium bodies with carefully calibrated oil-filled damping chambers. The 160mm length positions these shocks as the extended-travel option within the GTR range, purpose-built for desert racing applications where ground clearance and suspension articulation directly impact competitive performance. The oil-filling system uses premium silicone oil rather than air springs, delivering a smooth, progressive damping curve that responds predictably to impacts whilst maintaining consistent performance across temperature variations and extended running sessions. The aluminium construction provides approximately 20% weight savings compared to steel alternatives whilst offering superior rigidity and impact resistance critical for high-speed desert terrain. The anodised finish is applied to a depth of 25 microns, providing genuine corrosion protection through salt spray environments and wet conditions typical of UK weather patterns. These shocks are engineered with precision-bore cylinders and hard-chrome plated piston rods, ensuring seal integrity and consistent performance throughout the service life of the component. The fully assembled configuration includes factory-filled oil at the optimal viscosity for desert racing, pre-set to deliver balanced performance across front and rear applications, though users may adjust oil viscosity independently if their specific tuning requirements demand it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these GTR shocks suitable for my Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer? — Yes, these 160mm rear shocks with no-thread configuration are specifically designed for the Traxxas UDR, compatible with both the TRX85086-4-FOX1 (Fox Racing) and TRX85086-4-RGD1 (Rigid Industries) variants. Always verify your specific model variant before ordering.
  • Do these shocks come with springs? — No, these dampers are sold as fully assembled units without springs included. This design allows experienced builders to select springs independently based on their terrain preferences and suspension tuning strategy, providing maximum customisation flexibility for competitive racing or casual bashing.
  • What makes the 160mm length different from other GTR shock options? — The 160mm length provides extended travel capacity compared to shorter alternatives like the 134mm and 139mm variants, offering greater suspension articulation and impact absorption on rough desert terrain. The choice between these lengths depends on your specific vehicle platform and terrain demands.
  • Are these shocks pre-filled with oil? — Yes, these shocks are fully assembled and pre-filled with premium silicone oil at the factory, ready for direct installation onto your RC desert racer without requiring separate damping fluid purchases or assembly procedures.
  • Will the blue anodised finish last through outdoor RC sessions? — Absolutely. The blue anodised finish is applied as a permanent coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance and colour retention through numerous runs, cleaning sessions, and varied weather conditions typical in the UK. The finish is significantly more durable than paint and will maintain its striking appearance run after run.
  • Can I use these with different spring rates for tuning? — Yes, these shocks accept standard GTR springs, allowing you to experiment with different spring rates to fine-tune your suspension for specific terrain types, driving styles, or competitive requirements. This modularity is one of the key advantages of the GTR system.
  • What is the difference between threaded and non-threaded shock configurations? — The non-threaded design on these rear shocks is specifically engineered for rear applications and provides a more compact mounting footprint. Front shocks typically feature threaded configurations for height adjustment, whilst rear shocks prioritise direct fitment and stability.
