Overview
The Traxxas Shocks, GTS, aluminium (Green-anodised) represent a premium suspension upgrade for your TRX-4 trail truck. These long oil-filled coilover shocks are specifically engineered for use with the #8140 TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, delivering exceptional damping performance across rough, unforgiving terrain. Whether you're navigating rocky mountain passes, technical creek beds, or challenging off-road trails, these shocks tame even the gnarliest conditions with silky-smooth suspension response. If you're serious about RC crawling or trail running in the UK and want to upgrade from stock grey shocks to a more visually striking setup, the green-anodised GTS shocks offer both performance and style in one package.
These aluminium shock bodies feature a bright green anodised finish that not only looks fantastic on your TRX-4 but also provides durable protection against the elements. The anodised coating keeps these shocks looking fresh and vibrant through countless adventures, resisting corrosion and fading even after extended exposure to mud, water and UV rays. The shocks are supplied assembled without springs, meaning you can reuse your existing stock springs or upgrade to alternative options depending on your preferred suspension geometry and ride characteristics.
As part of the Traxxas range of premium RC car upgrades available in the UK, these GTS shocks represent genuine OEM parts from the world's leading RC vehicle manufacturer. They are sold as a set of four units, providing complete front and rear suspension coverage for your TRX-4. When paired with the Long Arm Lift Kit, these shocks deliver improved ground clearance and articulation, allowing your trail truck to maintain traction over larger obstacles and traverse more extreme terrain with confidence.
Key Features
- Aluminium construction with green-anodised finish — The shock bodies are precision-machined from aluminium alloy and finished with a vibrant green anodised coating that provides exceptional corrosion resistance whilst delivering striking visual impact. This finish protects your investment from rust and oxidation, ensuring the shocks maintain their appearance through countless muddy adventures.
- Dual X-ring seals — These shocks employ dual X-ring seals at critical junctures, creating an effective barrier against dust, debris and water ingress. The X-ring design is superior to standard O-rings for preventing contamination whilst maintaining smooth sliding action of the shock shaft, crucial for reliable long-term performance in challenging UK weather conditions.
- Oil-filled long-stroke design — The shocks are pre-filled with silicone shock oil and feature an extended stroke length optimised for the Long Arm Lift Kit geometry. This oil dampening system provides consistent, predictable damping across the full range of travel, translating bumps and impacts into smooth, controlled suspension movement rather than harsh jolts transmitted to your chassis and drivetrain.
- Threaded aluminium bodies for ride height adjustment — The shock bodies feature precision threads that accept the spring retaining collar, allowing you to adjust ride height infinitely by simply threading the collar up or down. This adjustment capability lets you fine-tune your truck's stance and suspension geometry without purchasing different length shocks, providing flexibility for different terrain types and personal preference.
- Assembled without springs — These shocks arrive fully assembled and filled with oil, but springs are not included. This design allows experienced RC enthusiasts to reuse existing springs from stock dampers or source alternatives with different spring rates to customise their suspension characteristics. The rear springs are marked with green paint and feature a 0.54 rate (stiffer) compared to front springs at 0.45 rate.
- Compatible with #8140 TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit — These shocks are specifically engineered for integration with the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal suspension performance. The extended length and geometry are designed to work seamlessly with lifted suspension geometry, maximising articulation and ground clearance advantages.
- Sold as a set of four units — You receive a complete suspension package with shocks for both front and rear axles, eliminating the need to purchase multiple sets to fully outfit your truck. This represents genuine cost savings compared to purchasing shocks individually.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTS aluminium shocks represent the pinnacle of trail truck suspension engineering for the 1/10 scale TRX-4 platform. Constructed from precision-machined aluminium alloy and finished with green anodising, these shocks combine lightweight construction with exceptional durability. The long oil-filled design incorporates silicone shock oil that has been carefully selected for its damping characteristics, providing consistent performance across a wide temperature range — important for UK trail running where conditions can vary dramatically between seasons.
The dual X-ring seal system employed by these shocks is a critical engineering feature that prevents fluid leakage whilst maintaining smooth operation. Unlike older O-ring designs, X-rings provide superior sealing on the shock shaft whilst minimising friction, meaning your shocks cycle smoothly without binding or hesitation. The oil-fill process is straightforward: you unscrew the lower cap, apply a drop of silicone oil to the seals to ease movement, then carefully fill the shock chamber with the supplied silicone oil and cycle the shaft to distribute dampening fluid throughout the internal chambers. This process takes approximately 10-15 minutes per set when following Traxxas instructions.
Ride height adjustment is accomplished through the threaded shock body design, which accepts the spring retaining collar. By threading the collar up or down, you effectively adjust the preload on the spring without changing the spring rate itself, allowing infinite customisation of your truck's stance. This feature is particularly valuable when transitioning between different terrain types or when fine-tuning your TRX-4 for maximum performance on technical trails. The springs supplied with your original TRX-4 should be transferred to these new shocks — the rear springs are distinguishable by their green paint marking and offer a stiffer 0.54 rate compared to the front's 0.45 rate, providing optimal load distribution and handling balance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shocks suitable for a beginner RC enthusiast? — These shocks are best suited to intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who have experience with suspension maintenance and setup. While the shocks themselves are robust and reliable, the process of filling them with oil and transferring springs requires mechanical aptitude and patience. However, if you're comfortable working on your RC vehicles and following detailed instructions, they represent an excellent upgrade path for your TRX-4.
- Do these shocks come with springs included? — No, these shocks are assembled without springs. You will need to transfer the springs from your original stock TRX-4 shocks to these new units. Note that rear and front springs have different rates (rear is 0.54 rate, front is 0.45 rate) and are not interchangeable.
- What size TRX-4 do these shocks fit? — These shocks are specifically designed for the Traxxas TRX-4 and are optimised for use with the #8140 TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit. They will not fit other RC scales or platforms without significant modification.
- How do I fill these shocks with oil? — The process involves unscrewing the lower cap, optionally applying a drop of silicone oil to the X-ring seals to ease shaft movement, then carefully pouring silicone shock oil into the chamber and cycling the shaft to distribute the oil throughout internal passages. Full instructions are provided with the shocks, and the oil required is supplied in the box.
- Can I use these shocks on a standard TRX-4 without the Long Arm Lift Kit? — While these shocks will physically mount to a standard TRX-4, they are specifically engineered for the geometry of the Long Arm Lift Kit and may not provide optimal performance on an unlifted chassis. Traxxas designs its shock options with specific platform geometries in mind, so using the correct shock for your specific TRX-4 configuration is recommended.
- How do the green-anodised shocks compare to other colour options? — The GTS shocks are available in multiple anodised colours including red, silver, and blue, as well as green. The anodising process is purely cosmetic and does not affect suspension performance — all colour options offer identical damping characteristics. The choice comes down to your TRX-4's colour scheme and personal aesthetic preference.
- What is an X-ring seal and why does it matter? — An X-ring (also called a quad-ring) has four contact points rather than the two points of a standard O-ring, providing superior sealing efficiency. This design reduces the likelihood of fluid leakage and contamination ingress whilst maintaining smooth shaft movement with minimal friction, critical for reliable long-term shock performance in muddy UK trail conditions.
