Whether you're a dedicated competitor looking to fine-tune your vehicle's performance or a weekend basher seeking to optimise your setup, this genuine Traxxas spur gear delivers the quality and compatibility you need. As part of Traxxas's comprehensive selection of 48-pitch spur gears, this component represents the manufacturer's commitment to providing RC model enthusiasts with genuine parts that integrate seamlessly with their vehicles.

Spur gears are critical drivetrain components that directly influence acceleration, top speed, and overall powertrain efficiency in RC cars. The 78-tooth configuration of this spur gear makes it an ideal choice for drivers who want to balance acceleration and top speed, offering a versatile gear ratio that performs well across a variety of driving conditions and track layouts. The integrated bushing design ensures smooth operation whilst reducing wear on both the gear and the transmission, extending the lifespan of your RC car's drivetrain and maintaining consistent performance session after session.

For anyone shopping for quality RC parts in the UK, understanding the role of spur gears is essential. The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gearing, influencing how power is delivered from the motor to the wheels. With the 78-tooth spur gear from Traxxas, you're investing in a precision-engineered component that's been tested and proven across countless RC cars worldwide, making it a trusted choice for serious hobbyists and competitive drivers alike.

Key Features

  • 78-Tooth Configuration — The 78-tooth count provides an optimal balance between acceleration and top speed, making this spur gear versatile for various driving conditions and track layouts without sacrificing performance in any particular area.
  • 48-Pitch Standard — The 48-pitch specification ensures compatibility with a wide range of Traxxas models and RC vehicles that use the standard 48-pitch drivetrain system, allowing you to upgrade or replace your existing gear with confidence.
  • Integrated Bushing — The built-in bushing reduces friction and wear between the gear and the transmission shaft, promoting smoother operation, extending component lifespan, and maintaining consistent performance throughout repeated use.
  • Genuine Traxxas Component — As an official Traxxas part, this spur gear meets the manufacturer's strict quality standards and engineering specifications, ensuring perfect fitment and reliable operation with your RC car.
  • Performance Tuning — Part of Traxxas's complete selection of 48-pitch spur gears, this component is specifically designed for performance tuning, allowing drivers to customise their vehicle's acceleration and speed characteristics to suit their driving style and track conditions.
  • Precision Engineering — Manufactured to exacting tolerances, the spur gear delivers smooth, quiet operation and efficient power transmission, which is essential for both recreational driving and competitive racing applications.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Spur Gear 78-tooth 48-pitch with bushing represents precision engineering at its finest, offering RC car enthusiasts a reliable drivetrain component that directly impacts vehicle performance. The 48-pitch standard is a widely recognised specification in the RC hobby community, ensuring broad compatibility across multiple Traxxas models and other 48-pitch compatible vehicles. The 78-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance in the gearing spectrum—larger tooth counts generally favour acceleration and torque delivery, whilst smaller counts emphasise top speed. With 78 teeth, this spur gear is well-suited for drivers who want moderate acceleration without sacrificing significant top-end speed, making it an excellent all-round choice for mixed driving conditions, track work, and general performance driving. The integrated bushing design is a critical engineering feature that cannot be overlooked; it acts as a friction reducer and wear barrier between the gear and the transmission shaft, which means smoother power delivery, reduced noise during operation, and extended intervals between maintenance and component replacement. Traxxas's reputation for quality manufacturing ensures that this spur gear will perform reliably across countless driving sessions, whether you're running on carpet, asphalt, or outdoor terrain. The precision of the gear teeth profile ensures efficient power transfer from the motor through the drivetrain to the wheels, minimising energy loss and maximising the responsiveness of your RC car's acceleration characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a spur gear and why does it matter in RC cars? — A spur gear is a critical drivetrain component that transfers power from your RC car's motor to the transmission and ultimately to the wheels. The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gearing ratio, which determines how quickly your car accelerates and how fast it can go. The 78-tooth configuration on this gear provides a balanced setup that works well for general performance driving without heavily favouring either acceleration or top speed.
  • Will this spur gear fit my RC car? — This Traxxas spur gear is designed for vehicles that use the 48-pitch drivetrain standard. If your RC car is a Traxxas model or another brand that uses 48-pitch gearing, this spur gear should fit perfectly. We recommend checking your vehicle's manual or specifications to confirm compatibility before purchasing. If you're unsure, contact our expert team at RC Model Shop for guidance.
  • How often will I need to replace the spur gear? — With proper maintenance and use, quality spur gears like this Traxxas component can last for many driving sessions. The integrated bushing helps reduce wear, extending the gear's lifespan. Replacement frequency depends on factors such as driving style, surface conditions, maintenance practices, and how often you use your RC car. Signs of wear include tooth damage, grinding noises, or reduced acceleration smoothness.
  • What is the difference between the 78-tooth and other tooth counts available? — Traxxas offers a complete selection of 48-pitch spur gears with different tooth counts for performance tuning purposes. Lower tooth counts (such as 70) provide faster top speed but reduced acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts (such as 86) favour stronger acceleration but lower top speed. The 78-tooth configuration balances both characteristics, making it ideal for drivers who want versatility across different driving conditions.
  • Is this suitable for both beginners and experienced drivers? — Yes, the 78-tooth spur gear is suitable for both recreational drivers and experienced hobbyists. Beginners will appreciate the balanced performance characteristics and reliable operation, whilst experienced drivers can use this component as a baseline for performance tuning, then experiment with other gear ratios to fine-tune their specific setup.
  • Do I need any special tools to install this spur gear? — Installation typically requires basic RC car maintenance tools such as a hex wrench or screwdriver set, depending on how your vehicle's transmission is configured. Detailed installation instructions should be available in your RC car's manual or from Traxxas's online resources. If you're unsure about the installation process, our expert team at RC Model Shop is happy to advise.
