Overview
The Spektrum S680 High Torque, Metal Top, Steel Gear 25T servo is a professional-grade digital servo designed for RC enthusiasts who demand precision, strength and reliability. This standard servo is the factory-installed option in the Losi LMT 2.0 and represents Spektrum's commitment to quality components that can handle the demands of both trick-driving and everyday bashers. Whether you're looking for an upgrade to your existing RC car setup or completing a new build, the S680 delivers the performance characteristics needed for precise control and durable operation across 1/10 and 1/8 scale vehicles.
Built with a metal top servo construction and steel gear specifications, this servo brings durability and precision to RC car UK enthusiasts of all skill levels. The S680 is engineered specifically for high-strength applications, making it an ideal choice for drivers who want a ready-to-run servo solution that won't compromise on performance. Its 25-tooth spline design ensures compatibility with a wide range of standard servo mounts and linkages across the RC hobby.
If you're running a vehicle that needs reliable steering control, enhanced torque delivery, and the peace of mind that comes with Spektrum's reputation for quality, the S680 is a servo that will serve you well. This is not a beginner's toy—it's a purpose-built component for RC cars and trucks that demand consistent performance session after session.
Key Features
- High Torque Output — 270 kg — The S680 delivers 270 units of torque, providing the strength needed to handle aggressive steering inputs, precise control during tricks, and reliable performance under load. This specification matters because higher torque means faster response times, less servo lag, and the ability to control heavier steering assemblies without binding or stalling.
- Metal Top Servo Construction — The aluminium top case provides superior durability compared to plastic alternatives, protecting the servo's internal mechanics from impacts and environmental stress. This robust construction is particularly important for off-road RC cars and trucks where dust, mud, and vibration are constant factors.
- Steel Gear Internals — Steel gears deliver greater strength and longevity compared to nylon alternatives, resisting wear over extended use and maintaining precise gear mesh tolerances that keep the servo responsive throughout its service life. This is a critical upgrade for drivers who want their servo to last through multiple seasons of racing or bashing.
- 25-Tooth Spline Compatibility — The standard 25-tooth spline mount ensures the S680 will integrate seamlessly with most aftermarket servo horns, linkages and mounts available in the RC hobby market, giving you flexibility in your vehicle setup and upgrades.
- Digital Servo Technology — Digital circuitry provides smoother, faster command processing compared to analogue servos, delivering more responsive steering feel and better holding power when centred, which translates to improved vehicle handling during competitive driving or precision manoeuvres.
- Wide Voltage Operating Range 6.0V to 8.4V — The servo operates across standard to high voltage battery configurations, allowing you to optimise torque and speed based on your specific vehicle requirements and power system setup.
Technical Performance
The S680 represents Spektrum's engineering philosophy of combining robust materials with digital servo technology to create a servo that excels in demanding applications. The metal top construction isn't merely cosmetic—it's a functional design choice that protects the servo's gearbox and motor assembly from the impacts and vibrations inherent in RC car driving. The steel gear internals further enhance this philosophy by eliminating the weakness points found in nylon-geared servos, which can strip or wear under continuous high-torque applications. With a 270 kg torque specification across the 6.0V to 8.4V operating voltage range, the S680 provides consistent performance whether you're powering it from a standard 2S LiPo battery or pushing it to the upper limits with a high-voltage cell. The digital servo technology ensures that steering commands are processed quickly and accurately, eliminating the servo lag that can compromise precision in trick driving or competitive racing. This servo has been engineered from the ground up to handle the rigorous demands of 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC vehicles, including the factory Losi LMT 2.0 platform where it serves as the OEM steering solution. The combination of metal construction, steel internals, and digital processing makes the S680 an excellent choice for drivers upgrading from budget servo options or those looking for a proven component from a recognised manufacturer in the RC hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum S680 servo suitable for beginners in RC cars? — The S680 is a premium servo designed for drivers who need reliable performance and durability, rather than a budget entry-level option. However, if you're building a complete vehicle and want a servo that will last through years of use, investing in the S680 as your first servo is a smart choice that eliminates the need for an expensive upgrade down the line. Its straightforward 25-tooth spline compatibility and standard servo form factor make it easy to install on most 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC cars.
- What battery does the Spektrum S680 need? — The S680 operates across a voltage range of 6.0V to 8.4V, which encompasses standard 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal) and high-voltage 2S LiPo cells (8.4V nominal). Most RC car setups using standard receivers and ESCs will power the servo through the receiver battery connector, so ensure your power system is rated within this range. The servo draws current based on load and speed, so a quality receiver battery with adequate capacity is recommended.
- What vehicle types is the S680 suitable for? — The S680 was engineered as the standard steering servo for the Losi LMT 2.0, making it particularly well-suited to monster trucks and precision trick-driving vehicles. However, the specifications and construction make it equally effective in 1/10 scale buggies, short-course trucks, rock crawlers, and 1/8 scale vehicles that require high-torque, precise steering control. Any vehicle in the RC car UK hobby that needs reliable, durable steering performance is a suitable application.
- How does the S680 compare to other Spektrum servo options? — The S680 is positioned as a high-torque servo with premium construction materials (metal top, steel gears) compared to budget or micro servo alternatives. The 270 kg torque output and 25-tooth spline configuration make it a standard-size servo suitable for larger vehicles, whereas micro servos are designed for smaller platforms. The digital technology and operating voltage range place it firmly in the mid-range to premium category of Spektrum's servo lineup, offering excellent value for drivers who want proven quality without paying for specialised aviation or racing variants.
- Is the S680 waterproof? — The source specifications do not indicate a waterproof or sealed rating for the S680. While the metal top provides some protection against dust and debris, standard servo precautions should be taken during use in wet or heavily muddy conditions. If full waterproofing is essential, consult Spektrum's full technical documentation or contact the manufacturer for sealed servo recommendations.
- How do I install the S680 in my RC car? — The S680 features a standard 25-tooth spline output, making installation straightforward on most RC vehicles. You'll need a compatible servo horn, linkage hardware, and a receiver with available servo channel. Spektrum provides servo mounting provisions in most vehicles' specifications, and countless aftermarket servo mounts are available for RC cars across the UK hobby market. Refer to your vehicle's manual for specific mounting location and linkage configuration guidance.
