Overview
The SPM Brushless Outrunner Motor, 3513-1100Kv is a high-performance brushless electric motor from Spektrum, one of the world's leading manufacturers of RC aircraft and hobby electronics. This 3513 size outrunner motor delivers reliable, efficient power for mid-sized electric RC aircraft and is designed for serious hobbyists who demand quality, durability and consistent performance. Whether you're building a new RC plane from scratch, upgrading an existing model, or looking for a replacement motor for your favourite aircraft, this brushless motor offers the speed, torque and reliability that RC enthusiasts throughout the UK have come to expect from Spektrum.
The 1100Kv rating makes this motor ideal for a wide range of mid-size aerobatic aircraft, trainers and sport flyers. With brushless technology at its core, you'll enjoy smoother operation, reduced maintenance requirements, and superior efficiency compared to traditional brushed motors. The outrunner design means the external rotor spins around a stationary stator, providing excellent cooling and allowing for direct prop drive without the need for gearboxes or complex mechanical arrangements. This simplifies your build, reduces weight, and improves overall reliability — three critical factors for any serious RC aircraft builder.
For RC hobbyists across the UK seeking dependable brushless RC aircraft motors that deliver consistent power and longevity, the SPM 3513-1100Kv represents outstanding value and proven engineering. It's backed by Spektrum's reputation for quality and is compatible with standard ESC controllers and battery systems used throughout the RC model shop community.
Key Features
- Brushless Outrunner Design — This motor uses brushless technology with an external rotor configuration, which eliminates the need for brush maintenance, provides superior longevity and delivers smoother power delivery throughout the entire flight envelope compared to brushed alternatives.
- 3513 Motor Size — The 3513 designation refers to the motor's physical dimensions (35mm diameter, 13mm height), making it compact enough for mid-sized RC aircraft whilst delivering substantial power output for aerobatic and sport flying applications.
- 1100Kv Rating — The 1100Kv constant means this motor will spin 1100 revolutions per minute for every volt of input power, making it perfectly suited for mid-size aircraft that require responsive power and excellent prop efficiency across a wide speed range.
- Reliable Spektrum Engineering — Manufactured by Spektrum, a brand trusted by RC pilots and hobbyists worldwide, this motor benefits from rigorous quality control, precision manufacturing and years of proven performance data in real-world flying conditions.
- Efficient Power Delivery — Brushless motors are inherently more efficient than brushed alternatives, meaning more of your battery's energy is converted into thrust rather than being wasted as heat, extending flight times and reducing thermal stress on your equipment.
- Direct Drive Capability — The outrunner configuration allows direct propeller drive, eliminating the complexity, weight and potential inefficiency of gear-driven systems, resulting in simpler builds and more straightforward maintenance.
Technical Performance
The SPM Brushless Outrunner Motor 3513-1100Kv represents a sophisticated blend of mechanical engineering and electromagnetic design. The motor features a 14-pole configuration typical of Spektrum's mid-range outrunner offerings, providing excellent magnetic efficiency and smooth power characteristics across the operating range. The 35mm diameter and 13mm height of the 3513 size class place it in the sweet spot for mid-size electric RC aircraft, offering substantial torque and power output without the weight penalty of larger motors. With a 1100Kv rating, this motor is engineered to operate efficiently with 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal) at reasonable propeller sizes, though it can accommodate 3S systems and higher depending on your specific airframe, propeller selection and desired flight characteristics. The brushless design eliminates commutator wear, meaning you'll spend less time on maintenance and more time flying. Build quality is exceptional, with precision-wound stator coils, high-quality bearing assemblies and a robust rotor structure that handles the centrifugal forces of high-speed operation. The motor's efficiency curve is optimised for continuous power output, making it suitable for extended cross-country flights, thermal soaring missions, or spirited aerobatic flights where sustained power is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What type of battery does the SPM 3513-1100Kv motor require? — This motor is designed to operate with 2S LiPo battery packs (7.4V nominal) for optimal efficiency and performance, though it can also be flown on 3S packs (11.1V) with appropriate propeller and ESC selection. The 1100Kv rating means it will produce moderate RPM suitable for mid-sized aircraft props on these battery voltages. Always consult your specific airframe manufacturer's recommendations for battery capacity and chemistry.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners? — Whilst the SPM 3513-1100Kv is a quality motor, it is best suited to intermediate and advanced RC pilots who already understand brushless motor selection, ESC programming, battery management and propeller matching. Beginners new to RC might benefit from ready-to-run aircraft kits that include pre-matched motor, ESC and battery systems. However, if you have experience building and flying electric RC aircraft, this is an excellent choice.
- What ESC rating do I need with this motor? — The appropriate ESC current rating depends on your specific propeller choice, battery voltage and desired thrust. A general rule of thumb is to select an ESC rated for at least 20-30% higher continuous current than your expected average draw. For 2S LiPo operation with mid-range props, a 25-40A continuous ESC is typically appropriate, but consult load calculation guides or seek advice from experienced builders for your specific setup.
- What size propeller should I use with the 3513-1100Kv? — The correct propeller size depends on your airframe design, desired performance characteristics and battery voltage. For 2S LiPo operation, typical propeller sizes range from 8x6 to 10x7 inches, but this varies considerably based on your aircraft's weight, wing area and intended mission profile. Always reference your airframe plans or manufacturer specifications for propeller recommendations.
- How does this compare to other Spektrum motors in the same size class? — The 3513-1100Kv is positioned in Spektrum's range as a mid-speed motor ideal for sport and aerobatic aircraft. Other 3513 motors may feature different Kv ratings — higher Kv values yield faster RPM with smaller props and 3S batteries, whilst lower Kv values produce more torque with larger props and 2S batteries. The 1100Kv strikes a balance for versatile mid-size aircraft applications.
- Is the SPM 3513-1100Kv suitable for racing or high-speed flight? — This motor is designed more for sport, aerobatic and training aircraft rather than pure speed racing applications. The 1100Kv rating is optimised for responsive handling and efficient cruising flight rather than absolute maximum speed. For dedicated racing motors, Spektrum offers higher Kv options, but for general-purpose flying, this motor excels.
