The long wheelbase design is more forgiving than short wheelbase alternatives, the brushless motor is simple to operate, and the straightforward 2.4GHz radio system requires no complex programming. However, you will need to source and charge a 3S LiPo battery, which requires basic understanding of LiPo safety practices.
- What battery does the M48S Subaru WRC need? — The new ARC-3 brushless ESC is rated for 3S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal). The XT60 connector ensures secure, efficient power delivery. A 5000mAh 50C hard case stick battery is ideal, providing sufficient runtime for extended driving sessions whilst maintaining responsive power delivery throughout the discharge cycle.
- What is the wheelbase and why does it matter? — The M48S features a 319mm wheelbase, which is notably longer than the previous short wheelbase M48S platform. The increased wheelbase dramatically improves directional stability at high speed, provides more forgiving handling characteristics, and allows larger tyres and suspension travel, all whilst maintaining the authentic proportions of the 1997 Subaru WRC.
- How does the triple-differential system work? — The front, rear, and centre metal gear differentials create an intelligent power distribution system. Front and rear diffs allow inside and outside wheels to rotate at different speeds through corners, whilst the centre diff prevents excessive wheelspin by limiting torque transfer to the axle with the least traction. This system maximises both grip and acceleration on loose rally surfaces.
- Can I upgrade components on this model? — Yes, Carisma have confirmed optional parts will be available upon release, including carbon fibre chassis plate CVDs to replace stock dogbones, optional motor pinion gears for gearing adjustment, and optional spur gears for top speed tuning, allowing you to customise performance to your specific driving style and track conditions.
- What makes this Subaru WRC RTR different from other rally cars? — This model combines several unique advantages: the newly evolved LWB chassis from Carisma's legendary M48S platform, the new ARC-3 ESC finally bringing 3S compatibility, comprehensive global testing by experienced drivers, and genuine motorsport authenticity with the iconic Colin McRae 1997 Monte-Carlo livery. The oil-filled coil-over shocks with anti-roll bars provide rally-specific suspension tuning unavailable on many competitors.
- Is this model ready to run out of the box? — This is a genuine ready to run (RTR) model, arriving fully assembled with motor, ESC, suspension, shocks, and radio system pre-installed and configured. However, you must source a 3S LiPo battery, charger, and receiver batteries before you can operate it, making it RTR-assembly rather than true out-of-the-box operation.
- What surface is this model designed for? — The M48S Subaru WRC is optimised for on-road tarmac driving, as evidenced by the tarmac-spec racing tyres and low-profile suspension setup. Whilst the 4WD system and robust construction allow off-road use, performance is genuinely maximised on paved rally stages, parking lot circuits, and smooth terrain surfaces.
