Introduction

Scaled down from the extremely popular Slow Ultra Stick 1.2m and inspired by the classic ParkZone Ember models, the E-flite UMX Slow Ultra Stick is an ultra-micro "slow flyer" that can be flown in even more places and smaller spaces! Use a range of 1S batteries for flying indoors in gymnasiums, garages, and other suitable spaces or to fly outside almost anywhere in calm to low wind conditions. The UMX Slow Ultra Stick is capable of slow and easy cruising and performing basic aerobatics including loops. You can even install the optional LED light set to fly in darker conditions and at night. Plus, you can choose between two factory-assembled versions: the convenient, all-in-one-box RTF (Ready-To-Fly) version that includes a Spektrum battery, charger, and an SLT6 transmitter equipped with a USB-C port for direct connection to a PC for easy plug-and-play use of the included trial version of the RealFlight Trainer Edition RC flight simulator. Or the BNF (Bind-N-Fly®) Basic version that helps you lower costs by using your own compatible Spektrum DSMX/SLT-equipped transmitter, battery, and charger. Either way, you can be flying almost anywhere in just the time it takes to charge a battery!

Overview

The E-flite UMX Slow Ultra Stick is simple and affordable. It's also incredibly easy and fun to fly for low-time to experienced pilots looking for a no-hassles fly-almost-anywhere experience they can't get with any other model! Based on the more modern-day design of the Slow Ultra Stick 1.2m and inspired by similar "slow flyer" models from the past, it can be flown in even more places and smaller spaces - indoors and out. Use a 1S 100-150mAh battery to fly indoors in garages, conference rooms, and gymnasiums. Or, use up to a 210mAh battery to fly outdoors almost anywhere in calm to low wind conditions. You can even fly in lower light conditions and at night after installing the optional LED light set (EFL-1113)!

The Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version includes everything needed to fly in one box and is a perfect choice if you're looking for maximum convenience and value. From the Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz transmitter you can use with other Bind-N-Fly® (BNF) Basic aircraft compatible with SLT FHSS technology to the 1S 150mAh LiPo battery and a convenient USB charger that can be used with a variety of power sources, there's nothing extra you need to buy or provide! Whether you're looking for an RC aircraft that can be flown indoors in gymnasiums and garages, or outdoors in calm to low-wind conditions, the UMX Slow Ultra Stick delivers accessible, confidence-inspiring flight performance that makes it perfect for pilots new to the hobby as well as experienced flyers seeking a relaxing, portable flying experience.

This is a genuinely ready-to-run RC model in the truest sense. Everything you need to start flying arrives in the box: the fully assembled aircraft, a 6-channel Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz transmitter, a 150mAh 1S LiPo battery, a USB charger, and even a trial version of RealFlight Trainer Edition RC flight simulator software. There is nothing to buy separately, no assembly required, and no compatibility guessing—just charge the battery, bind the transmitter, and fly. The UMX Slow Ultra Stick represents the ideal entry point for anyone curious about RC flying, whether you're based in the UK or anywhere else, and it's equally appealing to seasoned RC enthusiasts looking for a fun, low-pressure aircraft for casual flying sessions.

Beyond its convenience and portability, the UMX Slow Ultra Stick is engineered for genuine flying satisfaction. Factory-installed AS3X (Attitude Stabilisation 3-aXis) technology locks in the aircraft's feel and provides the stability that makes slow flying so enjoyable, whilst optional SAFE Select mode offers additional flight envelope protection for extra confidence. The aircraft weighs just 42 grams without battery and 46 grams with the recommended battery—placing it comfortably under the 250-gram category, which means no FAA registration or Remote ID is required in many jurisdictions. The lightweight, durable EPS (expanded polystyrene) construction is tough enough for repeated flights whilst remaining light enough for the minimal power required by the ultra-micro electric motor.

Key Features

  • 100% Ready-To-Fly Out of the Box — This aircraft arrives fully assembled with all electronics installed, a battery included, a charger provided, and a transmitter in hand. There is genuinely nothing else you need to purchase to get airborne, making it the ideal choice for anyone who wants to start flying without the complexity of additional shopping or assembly.
  • Ultra-Micro Size for Maximum Versatility — With a wingspan of just 501mm and length of 442mm, the UMX Slow Ultra Stick can be flown in yards, parks, gardens, and even indoors in suitable spaces such as garages and gymnasiums. This compact size opens up flying opportunities that larger RC aircraft cannot access, making it perfect for UK pilots with limited outdoor space or those seeking indoor flying options.
  • AS3X Stability Technology — Factory-tuned Attitude Stabilisation 3-aXis (AS3X) technology is built into the receiver, providing expertly-calibrated stability that locks in the aircraft's feel and makes smooth, relaxed cruising effortless. This advanced flight control system compensates for wind gusts and pilot inputs, delivering a confidence-inspiring flying experience that encourages exploration of the aircraft's capabilities.
  • Optional SAFE Select Flight Envelope Protection — SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) Select mode can be enabled via the transmitter to provide optional flight envelope protection that prevents over-stressing the aircraft. This feature makes it easier to fly by preventing extreme pitch, roll, and yaw inputs, making it particularly valuable for newer pilots or when flying in challenging conditions.
  • Dual-Protocol Spektrum Receiver — The factory-installed receiver supports both DSMX and SLT 2.4GHz protocols, providing compatibility with multiple Spektrum transmitter types. This dual-protocol capability offers flexibility if you already own other Spektrum radio equipment, or future compatibility if you expand your RC collection.
  • Included Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz Transmitter — The 6-channel transmitter included in the box features 2.4GHz SLT technology and a USB-C port, allowing you to connect the transmitter directly to a PC to use the included RealFlight Trainer Edition trial version. This simulator connectivity allows you to practise and improve your piloting skills on the computer, accelerating your learning curve before and between actual flights.
  • 1S LiPo Battery Compatibility — The aircraft uses widely available 1S 100–210mAh LiPo batteries with JST PH 1.25 (ultra micro) connectors. This compatibility with standard, affordable 1S batteries means you can purchase additional cells to extend your flying sessions, and the modest power requirements mean even small-capacity batteries deliver respectable flight times.
  • Included 1S USB LiPo Charger — The USB charger provided in the box allows you to charge the 150mAh battery directly from any USB power source, including laptop ports, USB wall adapters, and portable power banks. This convenience means you can recharge between flights almost anywhere, maximising your flying time during sessions.
  • Quick Snap-In Wing Design — The wing features a quick-connect snap-in design that allows easy installation, removal, and replacement without tools. This facilitates transport, storage, and maintenance, and allows for rapid wing swaps if a spare is available.
  • Lightweight Pop-Off Prop Saver — The motor is equipped with a prop saver design that reduces propeller damage during landing mishaps or minor crashes. The lightweight design ensures it doesn't compromise the aircraft's minimal weight budget whilst offering practical protection during the learning phase.
  • Durable EPS Airframe Construction — The fuselage and wing utilise expanded polystyrene (EPS) construction, a material that balances lightness with durability. EPS airframes are known for their ability to withstand minor impacts and crashes, absorbing energy rather than cracking like more brittle materials, making them ideal for recreational flying.
  • Real-Time Battery Voltage Telemetry — Compatible Spektrum transmitters display real-time battery voltage information on the transmitter's screen during flight, allowing you to monitor power levels and plan landing times to avoid over-discharging the battery. This feature extends battery lifespan and prevents in-flight power loss.
  • Optional LED Light Set Available — An optional LED light set (sold separately as EFL-1113) can be installed to enable low-light and night flying, opening up additional flying opportunities during evening hours or in indoor venues with ambient lighting.
  • Complete Parts and Support Ecosystem — A full line of replacement and spare parts is available, including propellers, servos, motor and gearbox assemblies, fuselage sections, wings, and other components. This parts availability means the aircraft can be easily repaired and maintained, extending its serviceable life.
  • RealFlight Trainer Edition Trial Included — The box includes an installation guide and Steam key for a trial version of RealFlight Trainer Edition, one of the most popular RC flight simulators. This allows you to sharpen your piloting skills on a PC before and between actual flights, accelerating skill development and improving safety.
  • Under 250 Grams—No Registration Required — At just 46 grams fully equipped, the UMX Slow Ultra Stick falls well below the 250-gram threshold in many jurisdictions, meaning no FAA registration or Remote ID is required in the UK and most other countries. This regulatory simplicity allows you to focus on flying rather than paperwork.

Technical Performance

The UMX Slow Ultra Stick is engineered for relaxed, enjoyable flight rather than speed or aggression. The aircraft measures 501mm in wingspan and 442mm in length, providing sufficient lifting surface for slow, stable flight whilst remaining small enough to manoeuvre in confined spaces. The total weight of 42 grams without battery and 46 grams with the recommended 150mAh cell represents an exceptional power-to-weight ratio that enables flight at minimal airspeeds, making the aircraft forgiving of minor control inputs and wind gusts. The factory-installed motor and gearbox assembly drives a propeller fitted with a prop saver, designed to minimise damage during landing mishaps whilst maintaining the efficiency needed for the aircraft's intended slow-flying mission profile. The motor receives power from a Spektrum ESC (electronic speed control) integrated into the control unit alongside two linear servo motors, all of which are tuned and calibrated before leaving the factory. The aircraft's flight characteristics emphasise stability and ease of handling, with AS3X technology providing automatic compensation for atmospheric disturbances. Performance is best described as relaxed cruising with capability for basic aerobatics including loops; the aircraft is not designed for high-speed racing or aggressive stunt flying, but rather for the meditative, smooth flying experience that makes slow-flyer models so appealing to many pilots. The EPS airframe construction provides adequate stiffness whilst remaining light, and the modular snap-in wing design allows quick field maintenance and repairs. The 1S 3.7V LiPo battery system is simple, safe, and widely supported, with the included 150mAh cell providing adequate flight time for enjoyable sessions. The aircraft operates on 1S batteries ranging from 100mAh to 210mAh, allowing pilots to tailor battery capacity and performance to their preferences—smaller batteries reduce weight and flight time for tighter indoor spaces, whilst larger batteries extend outdoor flying duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the E-flite UMX Slow Ultra Stick suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The aircraft is classified as Skill Level 2, making it appropriate for pilots new to RC flying. The included AS3X technology provides automatic stability that makes the aircraft forgiving of minor control errors, whilst optional SAFE Select mode offers additional protection. The aircraft's slow flight characteristics mean it responds predictably to control inputs, giving beginner pilots time to react and correct course. The included RealFlight Trainer Edition trial allows you to practise on a PC before flying the real aircraft, accelerating your learning curve significantly.
  • What battery does the UMX Slow Ultra Stick need? — The aircraft uses 1S LiPo batteries with JST PH 1.25 (ultra micro) connectors. The included battery is 150mAh capacity at 3.7V, but the aircraft is compatible with any 1S LiPo battery rated between 100mAh and 210mAh. Smaller batteries (100mAh) reduce weight for tight indoor flying, whilst larger batteries (up to 210mAh) extend outdoor flight duration. Additional batteries are readily available in the UK market at modest cost.
  • How long does the battery take to charge? — The included Spektrum 1S USB LiPo charger connects directly to any USB power source. Charging time varies with the charger's output current and the battery capacity, but typically a 150mAh battery will charge in 30–60 minutes depending on the USB power source. The charger is simple to use—simply plug it in and connect the battery. Many RC pilots keep multiple batteries and rotate them to maximise flying time during sessions.
  • Can I fly this indoors? — Yes, the UMX Slow Ultra Stick is specifically designed for indoor flying. Its ultra-micro size and slow flight characteristics make it suitable for flying in gymnasiums, garages, warehouses, and other large indoor spaces with adequate ceiling height. Always ensure you have permission to use any indoor venue and that there is sufficient space to recover safely if the aircraft descends unexpectedly. Outdoor flying in calm to low-wind conditions is equally possible.
  • What is the difference between this RTF version and other versions? — This is the Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version, meaning it includes absolutely everything needed to fly out of the box: transmitter, battery, charger, and aircraft. E-flite also produces a BNF (Bind-N-Fly) Basic version that includes the aircraft and electronics but requires you to provide your own compatible Spektrum DSMX/SLT transmitter, battery, and charger. The RTF version eliminates the need for additional purchases and compatibility considerations, making it ideal for new pilots or those without existing Spektrum equipment.
  • Does the UMX Slow Ultra Stick require FAA registration? — No. The aircraft weighs only 46 grams fully equipped, placing it well below the 250-gram threshold that triggers FAA registration requirements in the United States. UK pilots should verify current regulations with their local aviation authority, but in most jurisdictions, aircraft under 250 grams are exempt from registration and Remote ID requirements. Always check your local regulations before flying.
  • Can I perform aerobatics with this aircraft? — The UMX Slow Ultra Stick is capable of basic aerobatics including loops. However, it is not designed for aggressive stunt flying, high-speed manoeuvres, or sustained inverted flight. Its design prioritises relaxed, stable flying characteristics rather than extreme performance. Beginners should master basic level, straight, and turn flying before attempting aerobatic manoeuvres.
  • Is the aircraft pre-assembled? — Yes, the aircraft arrives fully assembled and ready to fly. The motor, gearbox, receiver, ESC, and servos are all pre-installed. The only assembly step is charging the battery and binding the transmitter to the receiver—both simple tasks explained in the manual. No soldering, gluing, or complex assembly is required.
  • What transmitter is included? — The Spektrum SLT6 2.4GHz 6-channel transmitter is included. It features dual-protocol support (DSMX and SLT), a USB-C port for connection to a PC for RealFlight simulator use, and a bright LCD screen. The transmitter is powered by 4 AA alkaline batteries (included) and provides reliable 2.4GHz spread-spectrum communication with the receiver.
  • Can I use the included transmitter with other aircraft? — Yes, the Spektrum SLT6 transmitter supports both DSMX and SLT protocols, allowing it to bind with any compatible Spektrum receiver. If you acquire other Spektrum-compatible aircraft in the future, you can bind them to this transmitter, making it a versatile piece of equipment that works across multiple aircraft.
