Technical Performance
The Blade 150 S Smart delivers impressive flight performance for its compact size, with an approximate flight time of 5 minutes per charge when using the recommended 3S 11.1V 30C+ 400-500mAh LiPo battery. The helicopter measures 366mm in length, 61mm in width and 127mm in height, making it genuinely portable for transport and suitable for flying in limited spaces. The main rotor diameter of 361mm (14.2 inches) combined with the 64mm (2.5-inch) tail rotor provides responsive, precise control across all flight regimes. Build quality is exceptional for an electric RC helicopter in this class, with dual brushless motors on both main and tail providing silent, efficient operation compared to older brushed systems. The Spektrum AR6250MHX flybarless controller with its advanced 6-axis MEMS sensor and low-latency 32-bit processor creates exceptionally stable flight characteristics without requiring mechanical stabiliser bars, reducing complexity and weight. The Spektrum Avian Smart 15A electronic speed control features a high-resolution 32-bit processor for crisp throttle response and precise motor control. The Spektrum H2070 metal-gear micro servos deliver the precision needed for collective pitch control and tail authority adjustments. The helicopter is engineered around Spektrum's DSMX modulation, making it compatible with a wide range of Spektrum 6-channel transmitters (DSMX/2 protocol), whilst the included receiver supports forward programming on Gen2 and iX12 transmitters for convenient in-field adjustments to flight characteristics. The composite plastic construction of the main frame, rotor blades and fuselage provides excellent durability whilst keeping weight low for responsive flight characteristics. Battery requirements are straightforward: a single 3S 11.1V 30C+ 400-500mAh LiPo pack with your choice of connector and a compatible LiPo charger, both sold separately.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Blade 150 S Smart suitable for someone new to collective pitch helicopters? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst classified as Skill Level 2, the SAFE technology and progressive flight modes make learning collective pitch much more comfortable. Stability Mode provides self-levelling with bank angle protection, creating a forgiving flight envelope where you can focus on building confidence without risk of sudden rolls or dives. The Panic Recovery mode is particularly valuable for beginners, allowing instant return to level flight with a single button press if things go wrong.
- What battery does the Blade 150 S Smart need? — The helicopter requires a single 3S 11.1V LiPo battery with a capacity of 400-500mAh and a minimum discharge rating of 30C. These batteries are widely available from RC shops across the UK. Flight time is approximately 5 minutes per charge, making it practical for afternoon flying sessions with multiple battery swaps.
- What transmitter do I need to use with this helicopter? — You'll need a 6-channel Spektrum DSMX/2 compatible transmitter. The Gen2 and iX12 transmitters unlock the full feature set including live telemetry data from the Smart ESC and forward programming capabilities, allowing you to adjust flight parameters without opening the helicopter. Other compatible DSMX transmitters will work but won't support these advanced features.
- How does SAFE technology help me learn to fly? — SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) uses 6-axis sensors to monitor the helicopter's attitude in real-time and automatically prevents you from exceeding safe flight envelopes in Stability and Intermediate modes. It provides self-levelling on demand and Panic Recovery that automatically returns the helicopter to level flight, giving you confidence to explore control inputs without fear of unrecoverable attitudes. As your skills develop, you can progress to Intermediate Mode (which removes bank angle limits but keeps head speed controlled) and finally to Agility Mode for unlimited 3D manoeuvres.
- What does AS3X stabilisation do? — AS3X (Artificial Stability 3 Axis) continuously analyses input from 6-axis MEMS sensors and automatically applies micro-corrections to flight surfaces 100 times per second to reject vibration and environmental disturbances like wind. This creates an incredibly stable, locked-in feel that makes the helicopter much easier to control, especially for less experienced pilots.
- Can I see battery and performance data during flight? — Yes. The included Spektrum Avian Smart 15A ESC transmits real-time telemetry to compatible Spektrum transmitters, displaying motor output percentage, battery voltage, ESC temperature and motor RPM. This Smart telemetry uses just a single data wire, eliminating the need for additional modules or complex wiring. Only the Gen2 and iX12 transmitters support this feature.
- How long do the metal-gear servos last? — The Spektrum H2070 metal-gear micro servos are designed for extended service life in helicopter applications. Metal gears wear much more slowly than plastic gears, and the servo is sealed against dust and moisture. Lifespan depends on flight hours and control intensity, but quality metal-gear servos typically provide 50+ flight hours before needing replacement.
- Is this helicopter waterproof? — No, the Blade 150 S Smart is not waterproof and should never be flown in rain or near water. The electronics, motors and servos are standard brushless RC components not designed for water exposure. Always fly in dry conditions.
- How does the flybarless system work? — Flybarless helicopters use a flight controller with multiple gyroscope sensors instead of mechanical stabiliser bars. The Spektrum AR6250MHX monitors the helicopter's rotation 100 times per second and automatically adjusts servo inputs to maintain stable flight. This reduces mechanical complexity, lowers weight and improves precision compared to traditional flybar designs.
- What's the difference between BNF Basic and other Blade packages? — BNF (Bind-N-Fly) Basic includes everything you need except a transmitter, battery and charger. The helicopter arrives fully assembled and factory-configured with receiver already installed. You simply bind the receiver to your transmitter and you're ready to fly. Other packages like RTF (Ready-to-Fly) include a transmitter and battery, making them more expensive but eliminating shopping for additional components.
