Overview
Like every component in the SpektrumT Smart ecosystem, FirmaT Smart ESCs combine "plug-and-play" simplicity with the ability to communicate with other Smart electronics, creating the best-performing RC system for your vehicle.
Firma Smart ESCs do much more than regulate power. They function like a virtual engineer inside your model, providing a direct path to the vital operating data you need to reach peak performance. Firma Smart ESCs give you more confidence that your electronics are all operating at their best.
With Firma Smart ESCs, you'll be better connected to your vehicle than ever without installing extra components that work independently. You won't need additional wires, modules, or links. A Firma electronic speed control provides a one-wire solution for obtaining telemetry data such as RPM, temperature, battery voltage, and capacity.
Firma ESCs gather the data and send it to your transmitter in real-time instead of storing it for an after-run study. You can adjust settings as needed to boost performance on the go. The Firma Smart single-wire telemetry solution has been tested for quality and performance by the best brands in RC. Their verdict? Smart technology is both simpler and superior!

Technical Performance
The Spektrum Firma 130A Black Edition Sensored Brushless Smart ESC represents a significant engineering achievement in brushless motor control for 1/8th scale RC racing applications. Rated for continuous current delivery of 130 amps with burst capability reaching 760 amps, this ESC is engineered to handle the output of serious brushless motor combinations whilst maintaining thermal stability through its aluminium heat sink and active cooling fan. The ESC accepts 2S through 4S LiPo battery input, making it versatile across multiple power configurations from compact 2S setups providing rapid acceleration to full 4S configurations for maximum top-end performance on 1/8th scale truggies and similar platforms. The integrated sensored system works specifically with the included Firma 4274 2250Kv sensored brushless motor, delivering precision control through rotor position sensing that eliminates the unpredictability associated with sensorless designs. The powerful 32-bit ARM M4 processor operates at a level of sophistication that rivals systems costing significantly more, processing control inputs and motor feedback at high frequency to produce smooth, responsive performance characteristics. The adjustable BEC output provides dual voltage options—6 volts or 7.4 volts—at 5 amps continuous current, sufficient for receiver, servo, and auxiliary component power requirements. Construction employs high heat-resistant IC5 connectors (backward compatible with EC5) which provide superior thermal performance and mechanical reliability compared to traditional XT connectors, particularly important when drawing 130+ amps through the battery connection. The Black Edition chassis features a durable plastic case with metal mounting tabs, whilst the solder-tab design for motor and battery connections allows customisation of lead gauge and length to suit specific installation requirements. This is professional-grade electronics delivering competition-level performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum Firma 130A suitable for beginners to RC? — Whilst the Firma 130A features 'plug-and-play' simplicity through button programming, this is genuinely advanced competition-grade electronics designed primarily for experienced RC drivers and racers who understand brushless motor tuning, LiPo battery management, and competitive 1/8th scale racing. The Smart telemetry features and programmable settings are most valuable when you have the knowledge to interpret and adjust them. Beginners would benefit more from entry-level Spektrum options unless building a serious racing setup.
- What batteries does this ESC need? — The Firma 130A accepts 2S, 3S, and 4S LiPo batteries (lithium polymer cells). A 2S configuration provides approximately 7.4 volts nominal, 3S provides 11.1 volts, and 4S provides 14.8 volts. The included Smart battery in the box provides one LiPo pack, but most drivers purchase additional batteries for extended running sessions. The ESC includes an automatic low-voltage cutoff that protects your LiPo from over-discharging.
- How does the sensored system work and why does it matter? — The Firma 130A includes a magnetic rotor position sensor that continuously monitors the motor shaft's position. This allows the ESC to know exactly where the rotor is at all times, enabling precise commutation and smooth acceleration from zero RPM upward. Sensored systems eliminate the 'dead spot' at throttle initiation that sensorless designs exhibit, delivering one-to-one throttle-to-speed mapping at any driving speed. For competitive 1/8th scale truggy racing, this precision is essential for consistent control and performance.
- Can I use this ESC with any brushless motor? — Technically the ESC can work with various brushless motors, but Spektrum engineered this specific combo with the included Firma 4274 2250Kv sensored motor for optimised performance. Compatibility with other motors depends on the motor's sensored capability, power handling, mounting dimensions, and KV rating. The sensored feature requires that your motor includes position sensing, which not all brushless motors provide.
- What makes Spektrum Smart Technology different? — Rather than requiring separate telemetry modules, external wiring, and independent data systems, Spektrum Smart Technology integrates everything into one ecosystem. The Firma 130A communicates via a single wire directly to compatible Spektrum transmitters, transmitting real-time data about RPM, temperature, voltage, cell balance, capacity, and speed. You can view this information on your transmitter's screen and adjust settings on the fly without connecting to a computer or waiting for after-run downloads.
- How does the telemetry system work? — The Firma 130A uses a one-wire telemetry connection that transmits comprehensive performance data directly to your Spektrum transmitter in real-time. This single-wire solution eliminates the clutter of multiple cables, modules, and connections that traditional telemetry systems require. Telemetry includes RPM measurement, ESC temperature, battery voltage, individual cell voltages (when used with Smart batteries), capacity remaining, and calculated speed information.
- What protection systems does this ESC include? — The Firma 130A features over-current protection that cuts power if current draw exceeds safe limits, automatic LiPo low-voltage cutoff that prevents over-discharging your battery, thermal protection that throttles output if the ESC temperature becomes excessive, and programmable failsafe protection that controls motor response if receiver signal is lost.
- Can I update the ESC firmware? — Yes, the Firma 130A features updateable firmware that can be modified through the optional Smart Firma ESC Programming Box or SmartLink USB Updating application. This means Spektrum can add features and improve performance through software updates that you can apply yourself.
- How does the BEC power distribution work? — The Firma 130A includes a 5-amp adjustable BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) that provides regulated power from your main LiPo battery to your receiver and servos, eliminating the need for a separate battery pack. The BEC can be configured to output either 6 volts or 7.4 volts depending on your servo requirements and control system needs.
- What connector systems does this ESC use? — The battery and motor connections employ user-installable solder tabs with an IC5 connector lead included. The IC5 is Spektrum's latest connector system offering superior heat resistance and mechanical reliability compared to earlier XT connectors. The ESC is backward compatible with EC5 connectors for basic operation and ESC telemetry.
