Overview

The ARRMA 550 14T Brushed Motor (Black) Z-ARA390307 is a high-quality brushed motor designed to deliver exciting and consistent performance across all driving conditions. Whether you're a seasoned RC car enthusiast in the UK or just discovering the world of brushed RC power, this motor offers an excellent balance of speed and torque at incredible value. The 550 size motor with 14T winding is specifically engineered to provide that perfect sweet spot between straight-line acceleration and low-speed pulling power, making it ideal for a wide range of ARRMA vehicles and driving styles.

This brushed motor represents the perfect entry point into RC motorsport or an economical upgrade option for existing RC car owners. Brushed motors are renowned for their simplicity, reliability and ease of maintenance compared to more complex brushless alternatives, making them an excellent choice for beginners and weekend bashers alike. The MEGA 550 series has earned recognition within the RC community for delivering genuine performance without the premium price tag of brushless systems. If you're looking for a ready-to-run RC car UK experience or need a replacement motor for your existing ARRMA vehicle, this motor provides the dependable power delivery you need to enjoy hours of off-road fun.

The eye-catching ARRMA decal ensures easy motor recognition in your workshop or pit box, whilst the robust construction guarantees durability through countless hours of high-energy driving. Compatible with 6-7 cell NiMh batteries or modern 2S LiPo packs, this motor offers remarkable flexibility in your battery choices, allowing you to choose the power source that best suits your driving style and available charging equipment.

Key Features

  • High-quality 550 size motor with 14T brushed winding — The 550 motor size paired with a 14-turn winding delivers the perfect balance between acceleration and torque, ensuring your RC vehicle accelerates smoothly whilst maintaining excellent low-speed pulling power for climbing hills and navigating challenging terrain.
  • Brushed motor design for simplicity and reliability — Unlike brushless motors that require electronic commutation through dedicated ESCs, this brushed motor operates with traditional brush and commutator technology, making it straightforward to maintain and repair, with fewer complex electronic components that could fail.
  • Distinctive ARRMA decal for instant recognition — The bold ARRMA branding isn't just for show; it helps you quickly identify your motor in a busy workshop or pit area, and the professional appearance adds visual appeal to your RC vehicle's power system.
  • Flexible battery compatibility with NiMh and LiPo options — This motor can run on either 6-7 cell NiMh battery packs (the traditional choice) or modern 2S LiPo batteries, giving you the freedom to choose based on your available chargers, budget and desired performance characteristics.
  • 4mm bullet connector for secure power connections — The standard 4mm bullet crimp terminal provides a reliable, industry-standard connection point that ensures solid electrical contact and is compatible with most ESCs and battery packs available in the UK RC market.
  • 3.2mm bore diameter for precise shaft fitment — The accurately machined 3.2mm bore ensures smooth, concentrical rotation and reliable mounting onto standard ARRMA driveshafts, minimising vibration and maximising efficiency.
  • Exceptional value for money — ARRMA's commitment to affordable RC performance means you get genuine motor quality without the premium pricing associated with brushless systems, making this an ideal choice for budget-conscious enthusiasts.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA 550 14T Brushed Motor represents a refined approach to brushed motor design, utilising proven engineering principles that have made brushed motors the trusted choice for countless RC enthusiasts worldwide. The 550 motor size is a recognised standard in the RC industry, offering an optimal power-to-size ratio that suits vehicles ranging from small 2WD buggies to larger monster trucks and all-terrain vehicles. The 14T (14-turn) winding configuration has been carefully engineered to provide the ideal balance of RPM and torque; fewer turns would produce excessive speed with weak low-end response, whilst more turns would sacrifice top-end performance. This motor's construction quality ensures smooth commutation, minimal brush wear and consistent performance across extended driving sessions. The motor is designed to operate efficiently across the full range of supported battery types, whether you choose the steady, predictable power delivery of 6-7 cell NiMh packs (typically delivering 7.2V or 8.4V nominal) or the higher voltage and instant throttle response of 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal, often boosting to 8.4V when fresh). The 4mm bullet connector ensures minimal voltage drop and maximum current delivery to your ESC, translating every amp directly into driving performance. This motor has proven its reliability across numerous ARRMA vehicle platforms including the FURY 2WD, GORGON MT 2WD and VORTEKS 2WD models, making it a thoroughly tested component you can trust.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the ARRMA 550 14T Brushed Motor suitable for beginners and first-time RC car owners? — Absolutely. Brushed motors are considerably simpler than brushless alternatives, with fewer electronic components that can fail. They require basic maintenance such as occasional brush cleaning and commutator inspection, but this simplicity makes them perfect for learning how RC motors work. If you're new to RC cars in the UK, this motor offers reliability and ease of understanding that will help you build confidence in your hobby.
  • What battery types can I use with this 550 14T motor? — This motor is compatible with both 6-cell and 7-cell NiMh battery packs (delivering 7.2V and 8.4V respectively) and modern 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal). Your choice depends on your available chargers and preferred driving characteristics; NiMh offers steady, predictable power delivery whilst 2S LiPo provides higher voltage and more responsive throttle behaviour.
  • Which ARRMA vehicles are compatible with this motor? — The ARRMA 550 14T Brushed Motor is specifically designed for compatibility with multiple ARRMA platforms including the FURY 2WD (both standard and battery/charger variants), GORGON MT (all Ready-To-Assemble and Ready-To-Run models), and VORTEKS 2WD. Always verify your specific vehicle model against the provided compatibility list to ensure proper fitment.
  • How does this brushed motor compare to ARRMA's brushless alternatives? — Brushed motors like the 550 14T offer significant cost savings, simpler maintenance and excellent reliability for general bashing and recreational driving. Brushless motors provide higher efficiency, longer runtime and marginally faster acceleration, but at considerably higher cost and with more complex electronics. For most UK RC enthusiasts enjoying weekend bashing and recreational driving, the brushed option provides outstanding value.
  • What performance should I expect from the 550 14T winding? — The 14-turn configuration provides an excellent balance of speed and torque. You'll experience smooth acceleration that doesn't feel sluggish, combined with adequate low-speed pulling power for hills and rough terrain. The exact top speed depends on your battery choice, gearing and vehicle, but expect competitive performance suitable for enjoying your RC car across various terrains.
  • Do I need an ESC to run this motor? — Yes, all brushed RC motors require an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) to regulate motor speed and direction based on your transmitter input. The 4mm bullet connectors are compatible with most standard RC ESCs available in the UK market; check your specific ESC documentation to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
