Key Features

  • 6-Pole Motor Design — The 6-pole configuration provides an optimal balance between torque delivery and rotational efficiency, resulting in smoother power application and more predictable handling characteristics compared to lower-pole-count alternatives. This design reduces mechanical stress on drivetrain components and extends the lifespan of your RC car's transmission and bearings.
  • 6800Kv Rating — The 6800Kv specification indicates this motor's rotational speed per volt applied, placing it firmly in the high-speed category suitable for applications demanding rapid acceleration and quick responsiveness. This Kv rating works exceptionally well with mid-range battery configurations, delivering thrilling performance without excessive current draw that could stress your electronic components.
  • Brushless Technology — Brushless motors eliminate the mechanical wear associated with traditional brushed designs, meaning less maintenance, longer operational life, and more consistent performance over time. Brushless systems also generate less heat and electromagnetic interference, making them ideal for precision RC applications where reliability matters.
  • Spektrum Quality Engineering — Built by Spektrum, a recognised leader in RC electronics, this motor reflects decades of experience in developing components for demanding RC environments. Every aspect of the design has been optimised for reliability, efficiency, and integration with other Spektrum systems.

Technical Performance

The SPM 1820-6800Kv Brushless Motor represents a sophisticated engineering achievement designed for serious RC builders and racers. The 6-pole motor configuration delivers superior commutation characteristics, ensuring smooth acceleration curves and precise throttle response that competitive drivers require. With the 6800Kv rating, this motor achieves impressive rotational speeds that translate to rapid vehicle acceleration and high top-end performance when paired with appropriate gearing and battery configurations. The brushless design eliminates carbon brush maintenance entirely, providing thousands of hours of reliable operation without degradation in performance. The motor's construction utilises high-quality materials throughout, including precision-wound stator windings and a robust rotating assembly engineered to withstand the extreme demands of competitive RC racing and intensive bashing. When integrated into a complete Spektrum system with compatible ESCs and power systems, this motor delivers the efficiency and responsiveness that separates high-performing RC setups from standard alternatives. The motor's compact size makes it compatible with most modern 1/10 and similar-scale RC platforms, whilst its power characteristics suit both racing applications and high-performance recreational use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the 6800Kv rating and why does it matter for my RC car? — Kv is a measure of how many revolutions per minute (RPM) a brushless motor will spin per volt of battery voltage applied. A 6800Kv motor spins extremely fast, making it ideal for high-speed applications. If you apply 11.1V (3S LiPo), the motor would theoretically spin at approximately 75,480 RPM without load. This high Kv rating delivers rapid acceleration and impressive top speed, making it perfect for racing-focused builds or performance-oriented RC vehicles where speed is a priority.
  • Is this brushless motor suitable for beginners? — Whilst brushless motors offer excellent reliability and low maintenance compared to brushed alternatives, this particular motor's high 6800Kv rating makes it better suited to intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts who understand gearing selection, battery matching, and ESC programming. Beginners might find a lower Kv motor more forgiving and easier to control. However, if you're upgrading from a ready to run RC car and have some experience with RC vehicles, this motor represents an excellent choice for creating a high-performance custom setup.
  • What battery voltage should I use with this 6800Kv motor? — Spektrum brushless motors like this one are typically compatible with LiPo, LiIon, and LiFe battery chemistries across various cell counts. The 6800Kv rating suggests optimal performance with mid-range battery voltages such as 2S (7.4V), 3S (11.1V), or 4S (14.8V) configurations, though specific compatibility depends on your chosen Spektrum ESC. Always consult your ESC's manual to confirm compatible battery types and voltages, as exceeding maximum voltage ratings will damage both the motor and ESC.
  • How does this motor compare to lower Kv alternatives? — Higher Kv motors like this 6800Kv unit spin faster and deliver quicker acceleration but generate more current draw under load. Lower Kv motors (such as 3000Kv or 4000Kv alternatives) spin more slowly but deliver higher torque and run cooler, making them better for heavier vehicles or applications requiring sustained power. Your choice depends on your vehicle's weight, desired performance characteristics, and intended use—racing applications typically favour higher Kv, whilst bashing and crawling favour lower Kv.
  • Is this motor compatible with my existing Spektrum ESC? — This motor is designed to work with Spektrum brushless ESCs. Compatibility depends on your specific ESC model and its current rating. Check your ESC's specifications to ensure it's rated for the voltage and current characteristics your chosen battery and motor combination will produce. Spektrum's comprehensive product range means finding a compatible ESC is straightforward.
