Whether you're running an off-road buggy, short course truck, or stadium racer, the Photon 2.1 motor offers the practical performance characteristics that hobbyists across the UK have come to expect from the eTronix range.

As part of the broader Photon motor family, this 3450KV variant is engineered to provide a balanced power delivery across a wide variety of 1/10th scale applications. The motor's sensorless brushless design eliminates the complexity and maintenance associated with traditional brushed motors, whilst delivering the efficiency and responsiveness that modern RC enthusiasts demand. Whether you're a weekend basher, a competitive racer, or someone upgrading their ready to run RC car, the Photon 2.1 represents excellent value and proven reliability within its class.

RC hobbyists in the UK will appreciate the straightforward integration of this motor into existing setups. The Photon 2.1 range includes multiple KV options to suit different battery configurations and performance requirements, ensuring there's a motor within the Photon range for virtually every 1/10th application you can imagine.

Key Features

  • Sensorless Brushless Technology — The motor uses brushless brushless motor technology without requiring hall-effect sensors, which simplifies the design, reduces cost, and eliminates the need for sensor wiring. This makes installation faster and more straightforward, particularly useful for RC car UK builders who want to upgrade their existing machines without extensive modifications.
  • 11.0R Resistance Rating — The 11-ohm motor winding resistance provides a balanced power curve suitable for moderate to high-speed applications, offering a sweet spot between acceleration and top-end performance for versatile 1/10 scale racing and bashing.
  • 3450KV Rating — The 3450 kilovolt constant rating determines the motor's speed characteristics when powered by your battery. This mid-range KV specification makes the Photon 2.1 ideal for 2S LiPo battery systems, delivering responsive acceleration without excessive heat generation or power draw.
  • 4-Pole Construction — The four-pole motor configuration provides optimal magnetic field alignment and smooth power delivery across the entire RPM range, resulting in efficient operation and reduced cogging for consistent performance during both acceleration and cruising.
  • 540 Motor Size — This standard 540-size brushless motor body fits into the vast majority of 1/10 scale RC car chassis designs available in the UK market, including popular platforms like FTX models and other mainstream 1/10th scale vehicles.
  • Practical Performance Balance — Rather than chasing extreme top speed, the Photon 2.1 motor emphasises reliability and useable performance across various driving conditions, making it equally at home on a race track or bashing around rough terrain.

Technical Performance

The Etronix Photon 2.1 delivers solid performance metrics for serious hobbyists who demand quality and consistency. With a 3450KV rating and 11-ohm resistance, this sensorless brushless motor is optimised for 2S LiPo battery operation, the most common power source for 1/10 scale RC cars in the UK. The four-pole construction ensures smooth commutation and efficient magnetic flux utilisation, translating to reduced friction losses and improved thermal characteristics compared to lower-quality alternatives. The 540 motor size is the industry standard for 1/10 scale applications, meaning integration into your existing RC chassis is straightforward and hassle-free. The brushless design eliminates brush wear and contact maintenance, extending service intervals and reducing the total cost of ownership over time. Built with quality materials and proven engineering from eTronix, the Photon 2.1 motor is designed to withstand the demands of competitive racing, casual bashing, and everything in between. The sensorless architecture simplifies wiring and eliminates the reliability concerns sometimes associated with sensor connectors, making this motor particularly appealing to those who value robustness and simplicity in their RC setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Etronix Photon 2.1 3450KV motor suitable for beginners in RC car UK? — Yes, this motor is excellent for beginners and intermediate hobbyists. The sensorless brushless design simplifies setup compared to brushed motors, and the 3450KV rating provides responsive but manageable power levels when paired with a 2S LiPo battery. It's straightforward to install into most 1/10 scale ready to run RC cars, and the eTronix Photon range is specifically designed for enthusiasts seeking a practical, no-nonsense brushless solution.
  • What battery does the Etronix Photon 2.1 3450KV motor need? — This motor is recommended for 2S LiPo battery systems. A 2S configuration provides the optimal voltage (approximately 7.4V nominal) for this KV rating, ensuring good performance, reasonable runtime, and safe operating temperatures. If you want a higher-performance 3S compatible motor, eTronix offers the ET0335 as an alternative option.
  • Can I use this motor with a 3S LiPo battery? — We recommend sticking to 2S LiPo batteries with this motor. Running 3S voltage through a motor rated for 2S operation will cause excessive current draw, higher operating temperatures, and significantly reduce the motor's lifespan. If you specifically need 3S capability, the eTronix ET0335 motor is the appropriate choice.
  • What is the difference between this motor and other Photon range models? — The Photon 2.1 motor family spans multiple KV ratings from lower to higher specifications. The 3450KV variant in this listing is positioned as a mid-range option suitable for balanced performance across various 1/10 applications. Lower KV options provide more torque and lower top speed, whilst higher KV versions deliver increased speed with less torque. Choose your KV rating based on your intended application and battery voltage.
  • Is this a sensorless motor? — Yes, the Etronix Photon 2.1 3450KV is a sensorless brushless motor, meaning it operates without hall-effect sensors. This simplifies wiring, reduces connector complexity, and improves reliability by eliminating potential sensor contact issues. Sensorless motors work perfectly with the vast majority of modern brushless ESCs on the market.
  • What chassis and vehicles is this motor compatible with? — As a standard 540-size brushless motor, the Etronix Photon 2.1 fits into any 1/10 scale RC car chassis designed for brushless motors of this size. This includes FTX vehicles, Traxxas models with brushless conversions, ARRMA 1/10 platforms, and countless other 1/10 scale buggies, trucks, and racing cars available throughout the UK.
