Key Features

  • Sensorless Brushless Design — The ET0335 features a sensorless brushless motor construction, which means it operates without hall-effect sensors. This simplifies wiring and installation requirements, making it an excellent choice for builders who want the reliability and efficiency of brushless technology without the additional complexity that sensor-based systems introduce.
  • 13.0R Wind Specification — The 13-turn coil winding provides a specific balance between power delivery and efficiency. This turn count is carefully engineered to provide appropriate performance characteristics for 1/10 scale applications, ensuring that your RC car benefits from optimised motor performance for this vehicle class.
  • 2950Kv Rating — The 2950Kv rating defines the motor's speed characteristics, indicating that the motor will rotate approximately 2950 revolutions per minute per volt of input under no-load conditions. This Kv rating places the motor in the sweet spot for 1/10 scale brushless RC applications, offering a good balance between speed and torque for various driving conditions and gearing setups.
  • 540 Motor Size — The motor features the standard 540 can size commonly used in 1/10 scale RC vehicles. This size is widely compatible with most 1/10 platforms, ensuring that you'll have no difficulty fitting this motor into your chosen chassis without requiring additional modifications or adaptors.
  • 4-Pole Configuration — The motor's 4-pole design contributes to smooth power delivery and efficient energy conversion. This pole count is the industry standard for brushless motors in this class, providing the optimal balance between magnetic field strength and rotational efficiency.
  • Part of the Photon 2.1 Family — As a member of the respected eTronix Photon range, this motor benefits from the engineering pedigree of a well-established product line. The Photon 2.1 series is known throughout the UK RC community for offering excellent value, reliable performance, and broad compatibility with popular 1/10 scale platforms.
  • In Stock and Readily Available — The ET0335 is available in stock at RC Model Shop, meaning you can order with confidence knowing that your motor will be dispatched promptly. No waiting for back orders or extended lead times means you can get your RC car up and running quickly.

Technical Performance

The eTronix Photon 2.1 Sensorless 1/10 13.0R 2950Kv Motor delivers reliable brushless performance in a compact 540 can size that has become the industry standard for 1/10 scale electric RC vehicles. With its 4-pole configuration and sensorless brushless design, this motor provides smooth, efficient power delivery without the added complexity and cost of hall-effect sensor systems. The 13-turn coil winding and 2950Kv rating work together to provide balanced performance characteristics suitable for a wide range of 1/10 applications, from bashing and recreational driving to more demanding track use. The motor's engineering ensures that it operates efficiently with appropriate gearing and battery configurations, delivering the torque and speed needed for responsive RC car handling. Quality construction throughout the motor's internal components ensures durability and longevity, making this a sound investment for your RC hobby. The brushless design inherently offers advantages over brushed motors, including longer run times, less maintenance requirements, improved reliability, and the ability to handle the demands of modern brushless electronic speed controllers (ESCs). The 2950Kv specification sits comfortably within the optimal range for 1/10 scale vehicles running on 2S LiPo batteries, though careful gearing and temperature management are essential considerations when operating at higher battery voltages.

What You Need to Complete

  • Brushless Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) — You will need a sensorless brushless ESC compatible with your chosen RC platform. A suitable option is the ET0126FTX, which comes with pre-soldered connections ready for immediate installation.
  • LiPo Battery Pack — A 2S LiPo battery is recommended for this motor specification, though operation on 3S LiPo is possible with careful gearing and temperature management. Always ensure your chosen battery is compatible with your ESC.
  • RC Chassis and Radio System — The motor is designed as a replacement or upgrade component. You will need a suitable 1/10 scale RC car chassis with compatible radio control system to complete your build.
  • Motor Pinion — Depending on your specific vehicle and desired performance characteristics, you may need to install an appropriate motor pinion gear to match your vehicle's spur gear.
  • Heatsink (Optional) — Though not essential, a motor heatsink can help manage temperatures during extended running sessions, particularly if operating at higher battery voltages.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the eTronix Photon 2.1 13.0R 2950Kv motor suitable for beginners to brushless RC motors? — Yes, this motor is an excellent choice for builders stepping up from brushed motors to brushless technology. The sensorless design is straightforward to install, requiring only three connections to your ESC, and the motor's 2950Kv rating provides balanced performance that is forgiving to operate. Beginners will appreciate the reliability and reduced maintenance compared to brushed alternatives, whilst the performance characteristics remain accessible and predictable.
  • What battery should I use with this motor? — The ET0335 is optimally designed for 2S LiPo battery operation. Running on a 2S LiPo provides the best balance of performance, temperature management, and component longevity. Whilst 3S LiPo operation is technically possible, this requires careful attention to gearing and temperature monitoring, as the motor can run excessively hot under 3S voltage without appropriate load management. If you require higher voltage capability, you may wish to explore alternative motors within the Photon range or consider Castle Systems options specifically rated for 3S operation.
  • Which RC vehicles is this motor compatible with? — The eTronix Photon 2.1 13.0R 2950Kv motor is specified for 1/10 scale vehicles and is compatible with many popular platforms including the FTX Carnage and FTX Vantage 2.0. The standard 540 motor size means it will fit any 1/10 scale chassis designed to accept 540-sized brushless motors. Always verify your specific vehicle's motor mounting to ensure compatibility before purchasing.
  • What ESC should I pair with this motor? — You need a sensorless brushless ESC compatible with your vehicle. The ET0126FTX is a recommended option that comes with pre-soldered connections, allowing for immediate installation without requiring additional soldering work. Your ESC should be rated for the battery voltage you intend to use (2S or 3S) and should match the current demands of your motor and vehicle weight.
  • What is the difference between sensorless and sensored brushless motors? — Sensorless brushless motors, like the ET0335, detect rotor position using back-EMF feedback rather than hall-effect sensors. This makes them simpler to wire (fewer connections), typically less expensive, and perfectly adequate for 1/10 scale applications. Sensored motors add hall-effect sensors for additional rotor position information, which can provide smoother starting characteristics but adds complexity and cost. For recreational and competitive 1/10 scale driving, sensorless designs like this one perform excellently.
  • Will this motor fit my FTX Vantage 2.0 or FTX Carnage? — Yes, the ET0335 is specifically listed as compatible with FTX Vantage 2.0 and FTX Carnage platforms. However, upgrading to a brushless motor requires not only the motor but also a compatible brushless ESC. The ET0126FTX ESC is recommended as a straight-swap combination with this motor that will work seamlessly in these vehicles and can be configured to run on either 2S or 3S LiPo batteries.
  • What is the 13.0R specification? — The 13.0R (13-turn resistance) specification refers to the number of wire turns in the motor's stator coil. This 13-turn winding is a standard specification for 1/10 brushless motors and defines the motor's electrical characteristics. Combined with the 2950Kv rating, it provides the appropriate balance of power and efficiency for 1/10 scale vehicles.
