Key Features
- Brushless Motor Technology — The PRO Brushless UD1609PROB uses a high-performance 7.4V brushless power system that eliminates brush wear, delivers more consistent power delivery, and requires significantly less maintenance than brushed alternatives. Brushless motors are more efficient, run cooler, and provide longer runtime from the same battery capacity, making them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliability and performance.
- 4WD All-Wheel-Drive System — This drag racer features a full 4WD configuration with UDIPOWER 4-gear metal differentials, providing superior traction, acceleration control, and handling precision across varying surface conditions. The 4WD setup is essential for drag racing where launching power is critical, and the sealed differentials filled with heavyweight oil deliver the performance characteristics of limited-slip differentials without the expense.
- Oil-Filled Metal Shocks with Progressive Damping — Threaded aluminium shock bodies with collars enable quick and precise spring pre-load adjustment, whilst the oil-filled design paired with progressive rocker arms delivers silky-smooth suspension action. Silicone bladders and X-ring seals prevent leaks for long-lasting durability, meaning your RC car maintains consistent handling lap after lap without suspension fluid weeping or performance degradation.
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP) — When the car slides or loses traction during acceleration or cornering, the integrated ESP system quickly corrects attitude and direction, helping you maintain control in challenging conditions. The ESP function and sensitivity can be adjusted or disabled entirely via a dedicated knob on the transmitter, giving you full control over how the stability system behaves during racing.
- High-Speed Ball Bearings Throughout — The entire drivetrain uses precision ball bearings to dramatically improve mechanical transmission efficiency and reduce friction losses. This means more of the motor's power reaches the wheels, transmission efficiency is maximised, and mechanical wear is minimised, resulting in a car that maintains peak performance across countless runs.
- Metal Differentials with Heavyweight Oil — The UDIPOWER differentials utilise over twice as much steel compared to standard designs, making them incredibly durable under extreme acceleration and cornering loads. Massive 9mm hardened steel output shafts ride on oversized sealed bearings and are protected by steel drive cups, whilst heavyweight oil fill creates the locked-diff feel essential for drag racing whilst remaining serviceable.
- Metal CVD Driveshafts — Rather than standard plastic shafts, this drag racer uses metal CVD (Constant Velocity) driveshafts that flex and articulate under load without binding, ensuring power is transmitted smoothly to all four wheels during acceleration and landing. CVD shafts are significantly more durable than plastic alternatives and essential for high-performance drag racing applications.
- Waterproof 2-in-1 Receiver ESC Unit — The integrated 4-channel 2.4GHz receiver and ESC combination is both waterproof and dust-proof, protecting your electronics from splashes, moisture, and debris. This rugged design means you can run your RC car in damp conditions and wash it without fear of electrical failure, extending the lifespan of your vehicle and reducing costly replacements.
- Adjustable Electronic Controls — The ESC provides adjustable brake, BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit), LVC (Low Voltage Cut Off) sensitivity, and reverse speed settings, allowing you to tune the car's power delivery and braking characteristics to your driving style and track conditions.
- Racing Tyres — The drag racer comes equipped with professional racing off-road tyres designed specifically for acceleration and traction, providing the grip needed for explosive drag racing launches.
- Low Voltage Cut Off Protection — The ESC includes Low Voltage Cut Off (LVC) protection that automatically reduces power when your battery voltage drops too low, preventing damage to your LiPo battery and ensuring safe operation.
- Thermal Overload Protection — Built-in thermal overload protection safeguards the ESC and motor from damage caused by excessive heat during prolonged use, automatically reducing power or shutting down the system if temperatures become dangerous.
- Cool Modelling with Controllable Headlights — The colourfully printed PVC bodyshell features integrated LED headlights with three operating modes controlled from the transmitter, allowing you to customize the look and run night-time sessions with full visibility.
- Metal Bulkhead Hangers — Reinforced metal wishbone hangers strengthen the chassis suspension mounting points, enabling the car to withstand the extreme forces generated during high-speed acceleration and cornering without flexing or breaking.
- Tough PVC Bodyshell — The bodyshell is manufactured from durable PVC materials with a colourful printed finish, providing protection for internal components whilst keeping weight down and allowing for custom paint schemes.
Technical Performance
The UDIRC Drag Racer - Black - PRO Brushless represents a sophisticated engineering achievement at the 1:16 scale, combining proven drag racing dynamics with user-friendly control systems. The brushless motor operates at 7.4V with 380SM specification, delivering powerful acceleration and consistent performance that surpasses brushed alternatives. The integrated 2-in-1 receiver ESC operates on the 2.4GHz frequency band with 4-channel capability, offering reliable communication range and multiple frequency options for running multiple vehicles. The 1200mAh 7.4V LiPo battery provides sufficient capacity for extended running sessions whilst maintaining manageable weight distribution. The waterproof and dust-proof ESC design, combined with oil-filled differentials and sealed high-speed bearings, creates a platform capable of sustained high-performance use in varying weather conditions. The metal differentials filled with heavyweight oil provide lock-up characteristics essential for drag racing, whilst the progressive suspension system allows fine-tuned handling adjustments through shock collar pre-load adjustment. Ball bearings throughout the drivetrain reduce rotational friction losses, meaning the brushless motor's efficiency translates directly into speed and extended runtime. The 4WD configuration distributes acceleration forces across all four wheels, preventing wheel spin during launches and maximizing traction during the critical first metres of drag racing where the outcome is often decided. The chassis uses metal bulkhead hangers and reinforced suspension mounting points to withstand the extreme stresses of competitive drag racing without flexing or structural failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the UDIRC Drag Racer suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. While the drag racer is a performance-focused vehicle, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) makes it forgiving for less experienced drivers by automatically correcting slides and loss of traction. The adjustable ESP sensitivity on the transmitter allows you to dial in the right level of assistance for your skill level. The pre-assembled ready-to-run format means you can start racing immediately without building or tuning, and the 4WD layout provides excellent traction and stability during acceleration.
- What battery does the UDIRC Drag Racer need? — The UD1609PROB comes with a 7.4V 1200mAh LiPo rechargeable battery. This is a 2S LiPo (two cells in series), which is the standard voltage for this scale. You should charge this battery using a proper LiPo charger capable of balancing 2S batteries. If you intend to use the car frequently, purchasing spare batteries is highly recommended to maximize running time. The LVC (Low Voltage Cut Off) protection in the ESC prevents over-discharging, but you should aim to store the battery at around 50% charge if not using it for extended periods.
- How does brushless compare to brushed RC cars? — The brushless motor in the PRO version offers several significant advantages over brushed motors: increased efficiency means longer runtime from the same battery capacity, cooler operation requiring less cooling, superior reliability with no brush wear requiring replacement, less maintenance and servicing, and more consistent power delivery across the entire battery voltage range. Brushless motors also produce less electromagnetic interference and are generally faster and more responsive. The trade-off is that brushless systems are slightly more expensive, but the performance and longevity advantages justify the investment for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK.
- What makes this a drag racer rather than a standard RC car? — Drag racing is a motorsport discipline focused on straight-line acceleration over a fixed distance, typically a quarter mile or similar. The UDIRC Drag Racer is engineered specifically for this purpose with a 4WD layout to maximize traction during acceleration launches, low ground clearance for stability, and a chassis geometry optimized for straight-line speed. The 4WD system with metal differentials filled with heavyweight oil is essential for drag racing, as it prevents the kind of torque steer (one wheel spinning whilst the other loses traction) that would occur in 2WD vehicles during hard acceleration.
- Can I use this on grass or only on tarmac? — Whilst the UDIRC Drag Racer is optimized for on-road use (it's listed as an on-road vehicle), the rugged construction and professional racing tyres provide reasonable performance on packed grass or dirt surfaces. However, for best results and to avoid unnecessary wear on components, on-road surfaces like concrete or tarmac are ideal. The low ground clearance and stiff suspension are tuned for on-road racing rather than off-road bashings.
- How fast does the UDIRC Drag Racer go? — While maximum speed specifications aren't provided in the documentation, the brushless 7.4V motor with 1200mAh battery provides genuine drag racing performance at 1:16 scale. The exact speed depends on factors including surface conditions, battery voltage, weight of the vehicle, and gear ratios. The Electronic Stability Program helps you maintain control at high speeds by automatically managing slides and traction loss.
- Is the ESC waterproof? — Yes, the 2-in-1 receiver ESC unit is specifically rated as waterproof and dust-proof. This doesn't mean you should submerge the car in water, but it does mean you can run in light rain, damp conditions, and wash your car without fear of electrical damage. The sealed design protects against spray and splashes that would damage standard electronics.
- What's included in the headlight kit (UD1609-002)? — The UDIRC Headlight Group is an optional accessory that adds enhanced LED lighting to the drag racer. It's compatible with the UD1609B (brushed black) and UD1609A (brushed orange) models, and features three lighting modes controlled via the transmitter, allowing you to customize appearance and run night-time sessions with full illumination.
- Can I adjust the suspension and handling? — Yes, the oil-filled metal shocks feature threaded aluminium bodies with collars that allow easy spring pre-load adjustment. This means you can stiffen or soften the suspension to suit different track conditions and your driving preferences. The Electronic Stability Program sensitivity is also adjustable via the transmitter's ESP knob, allowing you to dial in the right amount of electronic stability correction.
- What's the difference between the brushed and brushless versions? — The main differences are: brushless motors are more efficient and provide longer runtime, brushless motors run cooler and require less maintenance, brushless systems are more reliable with no brush wear, and brushless motors provide more consistent and responsive power delivery. The brushed versions (UD1609A and UD1609B) are more budget-friendly entry points but require periodic brush replacement and offer lower efficiency.
- How long does the battery take to charge? — Charge time depends on the charger you use. A standard 1A LiPo charger would take approximately 1-2 hours to fully charge a 1200mAh battery. Fast chargers capable of higher amp rates (2A or more) will charge faster but require a quality charger to avoid damaging the battery. Always follow the charger manufacturer's instructions and never leave batteries unattended during charging.
- Are spare parts available for the UDIRC Drag Racer? — As an established RC brand, UDIRC parts are widely available through specialist UK RC retailers. Common replacement items include tyres, ball bearings, suspension components, and driveshafts. We recommend maintaining a small inventory of spare wear items to ensure your car is always ready for action.
