Key Features

  • Steel 1.35 Module Main Gear (37T) — The main gear features a robust 1.35 module tooth profile manufactured from high-quality steel, which provides significantly greater tooth strength compared to standard or composite alternatives. This larger module size means thicker, stronger gear teeth that can handle the extreme torque and power delivery of modern brushless RC systems, particularly on high-voltage 4S LiPo setups. The 37-tooth count is specifically engineered for the optimal balance of acceleration, top speed and torque delivery in 1/10 scale speed trucks and high-performance vehicles.
  • Precision Manufactured Gear Teeth — Each tooth is precision machined to ensure accurate fit, smooth operation and consistent mesh with mating components. This precision manufacturing eliminates binding, noise and excess wear, resulting in a noticeably smoother power delivery to your wheels. When gears are manufactured to tight tolerances, the entire drivetrain operates more efficiently, translating directly to better handling and more predictable vehicle behaviour during hard cornering and acceleration.
  • High-Quality Steel Construction — Produced from premium steel material throughout, this differential gear offers long-lasting durability that far exceeds composite alternatives. Steel gears resist wear from sustained high-power driving, maintain their tooth profile integrity over thousands of charge cycles, and are far more resistant to the kind of damage that can occur during aggressive RC driving on rough terrain or during impacts. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK who want their drivetrain components to survive serious use, steel is the proven choice.
  • Pre-Assembled Ready to Install — This metal diff set arrives completely pre-assembled and filled with 10,000cSt silicone oil, so you can simply remove your existing differential and drop this straight in. There's no need to disassemble, clean, reassemble or refill with gear oil—everything is done for you. This pre-assembled approach saves considerable time and eliminates the risk of incorrect assembly, contamination or incorrect oil viscosity that can happen during DIY rebuilds.
  • Tough Precision Molded Composite Diff Case — The differential case itself is manufactured from precision molded composite material that ensures accurate alignment between all internal gears and components. This composite construction provides sufficient rigidity to maintain consistent gear mesh while being engineered to absorb shock loads without cracking. The precise alignment maintained by this case design is crucial for smooth operation and long component life, particularly under the extreme loads produced by brushless motors on high-power RC systems.
  • High Strength Steel Diff Internal Gears — All internal gears within the differential assembly are manufactured from high-strength steel, not composite or plastic. These internal spider gears and side gears must transfer tremendous forces during cornering and acceleration, and steel construction ensures they'll handle the job reliably through countless driving sessions without stripping, wearing or deforming.
  • Splined Steel Diff Output Shafts — The output shafts feature precision splined connections that lock the wheels to the differential without slipping or causing vibration. These steel splines resist wear and maintain a secure connection even under extreme acceleration and braking forces, ensuring consistent power delivery to both wheels without any loss of drive efficiency.
  • Front or Rear Installation Versatility — This metal diff set is engineered to work as either a front or rear differential in compatible ARRMA vehicles, giving you flexibility in how you configure your entire drivetrain. Many RC enthusiasts choose to upgrade both front and rear differentials for maximum consistency and durability across the vehicle.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA Metal Main Diff Gear (37T, 1.35M) 4S v2 is engineered from the ground up for high-performance brushless RC applications. The 37-tooth count combined with the 1.35 module tooth profile creates a gear that can reliably handle the sustained power output of modern brushless motors running on 4S LiPo batteries. In practical terms, the 37-tooth main gear provides the right balance for vehicles like the ARRMA Kraton 4S and Outcast 4S—both famous for their speed and high-powered performance—allowing these RC monster trucks to accelerate aggressively while maintaining drivability. The steel construction throughout the assembly means wear is minimal even with hundreds of charge cycles of hard driving. The 10,000cSt silicone oil fill provides the correct viscosity for efficient power transfer while maintaining proper cooling of the internal gears. ARRMA's precision manufacturing standards ensure that gear mesh is absolutely consistent, which directly translates to smooth power delivery, reduced drivetrain losses and longer component life. For UK RC enthusiasts running brushless 4S systems, this metal diff represents the reliability and performance standard that separates good RC setups from truly exceptional ones. The pre-assembled design and steel construction make this an ideal choice whether you're replacing worn differential components, upgrading from composite gears, or building a competition-grade RC vehicle. The engineering quality matches the reputation ARRMA has built in the brushless RC market, making this a component you can trust in demanding driving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What ARRMA RC cars and trucks is this metal diff gear compatible with? — This 37T 1.35M metal diff is designed for the ARRMA Kraton 4S 4X4 (both v2 and earlier versions) and ARRMA Outcast 4S 4X4 models, which are popular high-speed brushless RC monster trucks in the UK. It's also compatible with a wide range of other ARRMA 1/10 and 1/8 scale vehicles including the Granite, Senton, Vorteks, Big Rock, Infraction, Typhon, Mojave and Vendetta models depending on their generation and variant. Always verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing, as ARRMA has many variants with different differential requirements.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement differential component rather than a complete vehicle, so it's intended for users who already own an ARRMA RC vehicle and want to upgrade or repair their drivetrain. Beginners should purchase a ready to run ARRMA RC truck first, then consider diff upgrades once they're familiar with basic RC operation. However, if you're a beginner who has already bought an ARRMA vehicle and your differential needs replacement, the pre-assembled nature of this part makes installation straightforward if you follow ARRMA's assembly guides.
  • Why would I choose a metal diff gear over composite? — Metal diff gears, particularly steel construction like this ARRMA component, offer significantly longer lifespan and can handle higher power loads than composite gears. If you're running a brushless 4S LiPo system, using composite differentials means you'll eventually experience tooth stripping, wear and reduced performance. Steel gears maintain their precision longer, resist wear better, and justify their cost through extended component life. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who drive frequently and demand reliability, metal diffs are the sensible choice.
  • What does 1.35 module mean? — Module is a measure of gear tooth size—higher module numbers mean larger, stronger teeth. The 1.35M specification means this gear has teeth that are 1.35mm in pitch, which is significantly larger and stronger than standard 1.0M gears used on many RC vehicles. Larger module teeth can handle greater loads and stresses before deforming or stripping, making them ideal for high-power brushless systems.
  • What oil is this filled with and can I change it? — The metal diff arrives pre-filled with 10,000cSt silicone oil, which is a common and suitable viscosity for RC differentials. This provides good balance between lubrication and smooth operation. You can change the oil if desired by following ARRMA's maintenance instructions, though the factory fill is appropriate for most driving conditions. Some drivers might experiment with 5,000cSt for smoother operation or higher viscosity for more locking action, but 10,000cSt is the standard recommendation.
  • Does this improve acceleration and top speed? — A differential's primary role is to distribute power to the wheels and allow them to rotate at different speeds during cornering. Upgrading to a metal diff doesn't directly increase acceleration or top speed, but it ensures you're getting consistent, reliable power delivery without slippage or wear that would degrade performance. By maintaining precise gear mesh and eliminating the power losses associated with worn differentials, a quality metal diff helps your RC vehicle perform at its peak potential consistently, session after session.
  • How long will this metal diff last? — With proper maintenance and appropriate driving techniques, a metal diff gear like this ARRMA component can last hundreds of charge cycles. Factors affecting lifespan include driving style (aggressive bashing causes more wear than smooth driving), maintenance (regular inspection and re-oiling as needed), and driving surface (concrete and tarmac cause more wear than grass or dirt). Most RC enthusiasts can expect several seasons of regular driving before needing to replace a metal diff, making it a worthwhile investment compared to composite alternatives that might need replacement after just a few months of heavy use.
