This fully licensed 1978 Chevy Malibu body is perfect for RC enthusiasts in the UK who want to transform their short course truck into a scale 1/4-mile drag racing beast in retro-classic square-body style. Bowtie fans will love this ultra-scale body that captures all the signature details of Mark Micke's real-world 4,700hp, twin-turbo, 200mph+ G-body Malibu drag car, making it an incredible scale replica for serious RC drag racing competitors and weekend bashers alike.

Whether you own a Traxxas Slash 2WD, Team Associated DR10, or Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car, this premium RC body shell transforms your existing chassis into an authentic drag racing machine with stunning period-correct styling. The body is manufactured from crystal clear polycarbonate, giving you the flexibility to customise the appearance with your own paint scheme or use the included detailed decal sheet to match the iconic livery. For anyone serious about RC drag racing in the UK, this Pro-Line body represents the pinnacle of scale authenticity and racing-focused design.

As an unpainted, clear polycarbonate shell, this body offers complete creative freedom for builders who want to personalise their drag car. The paint-then-peel overspray film system makes the painting process straightforward and professional-looking, even for first-time painters. With window masks and a detailed decal sheet included, you have everything needed to transform this clear shell into a show-stopping drag racing machine that captures the essence of classic American muscle car performance.

Key Features

  • Fully Licensed 1978 Chevrolet Malibu Design — This body features an official license from Chevrolet, ensuring authenticity in every detail from the iconic square body lines to the signature Bowtie branding, giving your RC drag car genuine credibility and visual impact.
  • Incredible Scale Replica of Mark Micke's Real Drag Car — The design faithfully recreates the legendary 4,700hp, twin-turbo, 200mph+ G-body Malibu drag car, capturing all the signature performance-oriented details that make this machine instantly recognisable to drag racing enthusiasts across the UK.
  • Crystal Clear Polycarbonate Construction — Made from durable, high-quality polycarbonate material, this body is both robust and transparent, allowing you to customise the paint scheme to your exact specifications whilst maintaining structural integrity during competitive racing.
  • Paint-Then-Peel Overspray Film Included — The integrated overspray film system allows you to paint your body with confidence, as the film protects unpainted areas and peels away cleanly after painting, resulting in a professional finish without masking tape residue or paint bleed.
  • Optimised Narrow Track Width Design — To create the most scale look possible, this body is designed with a narrower track width than traditional short course bodies, giving it authentic proportions that look more like a real drag car rather than a generic RC shell.
  • Perfect for No-Prep Drag Racing Scene — Whether you're competing in organised drag racing events or building a street-racing styled machine, this body is purpose-built for the no-prep drag racing community with styling cues and proportions that match real drag racing vehicles.
  • Optional Rear Spoiler with Hardware — The included rear spoiler adds aggressive styling and can be easily attached using the supplied hardware, completing the drag car aesthetic and adding visual depth to your finished build.
  • Comprehensive Decal Sheet Included — A detailed, professional-quality decal sheet is included in the box, allowing you to replicate the iconic livery of Mark Micke's real Malibu or create your own custom drag racing scheme.
  • Window Masks for Clean Painting — Pre-cut window masks are included to ensure clean, professional paint lines around the windows and body graphics, saving time during the building process and delivering a factory-quality finish.
  • Direct Fit for AE DR10 — The body is engineered as a direct fit for the Team Associated DR10 drag racing platform, requiring no modifications and ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance straight out of the box.
  • Compatible with Slash 2WD (Modified) — Whilst the body is designed primarily for the DR10, it can be adapted to fit the Traxxas Slash 2WD with a comprehensive list of compatible modifications, allowing existing Slash owners to join the drag racing community with this iconic body.
  • Made in the USA Since 1982 — Pro-Line has been manufacturing quality RC bodies for over 40 years, bringing decades of experience and engineering expertise to every product, ensuring you're purchasing from an established, respected manufacturer.
  • Four-Step Build Process to Drag Race Ready — The straightforward assembly process means you can have your drag car ready for competition in just four simple steps: clean the body, apply window masks, paint and peel the overspray film, apply decals, and mount on your chassis.
  • Exclusive 3D Printed Parts Available — Pro-Line offers free downloadable 3D files for bonus parts including a bullhorn exhaust pipe and rear body post reposition bracket, allowing you to further customise your build if you have access to 3D printing facilities.

Technical Performance

This 1978 Chevrolet Malibu clear body is engineered as a premium polycarbonate shell specifically optimised for 1/10-scale drag racing platforms. With dimensions of 647mm in length (25.5 inches), 289mm front width (11.4 inches), and 295mm rear width (11.6 inches), combined with a height of 156mm (6.1 inches) and 330mm wheelbase (13 inches), the body provides authentic proportions that accurately represent a real drag racing vehicle. The narrower track width compared to standard short course bodies creates the most scale appearance possible, making this shell instantly recognisable as a proper drag car rather than a generic RC body. Constructed from crystal clear polycarbonate, the body material offers excellent durability whilst remaining transparent for custom paint schemes. The body is designed as a direct fit for the Team Associated RC10DR platform, though it can be adapted to Traxxas Slash 2WD platforms with the addition of Pro-Line Extended Body Mounts and Bandit-series suspension components including front and rear arms, caster blocks, steering blocks, and axles. For Slash 2WD builds, you'll also need King Pins, camber and rear turnbuckles, toe link turnbuckles, and shortened rear drive shafts, plus removal of the front bumper for proper fitment. The included paint-then-peel overspray film system ensures professional finishing without traditional masking, whilst the integrated window masks provide clean paint lines around all glazed areas. When building your complete drag racing setup, Pro-Line recommends pairing this body with Hoosier 2.2-inch drag racing front tyres, Hoosier Drag Slick SC 2.2-inch/3.0-inch rear tyres or Reaction HP SC 2.2-inch/3.0-inch belted tyres, Pomona Drag Spec wheels, and the Pro-Line Stinger Wheelie Bar to achieve the ultimate hot-rod aesthetic and competitive performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which RC platforms does this 1978 Malibu body fit? — This body is engineered as a direct fit for the Team Associated DR10 drag racing platform, requiring no modifications. It can also be adapted to fit the Traxxas Slash 2WD, though this requires a comprehensive list of modifications including Pro-Line Extended Body Mounts, Bandit-series suspension components, and shortened rear drive shafts. The body is not compatible with the Losi 22S without significant modifications, despite being mentioned in some product literature.
  • Is this body suitable for beginners to RC drag racing? — Whilst the body itself is straightforward to assemble following the four-step drag race ready process, building a competitive drag car requires some technical knowledge, particularly if adapting it to a Slash 2WD platform. Beginners should find the actual body assembly and painting process accessible, but may need guidance from experienced RC builders when integrating the body with chassis modifications. Those with a DR10 will have a much simpler installation experience.
  • What paint should I use on this polycarbonate body? — The source materials do not specify a particular paint type, however RC polycarbonate bodies typically require paints specifically formulated for polycarbonate compatibility. You should confirm with paint manufacturers that their product is suitable for polycarbonate RC bodies before purchasing. The included paint-then-peel overspray film will protect unpainted areas and ensure clean lines.
  • Can I fit this body to my Traxxas Slash 2WD easily? — The 1978 Malibu requires significant modifications to fit the Slash 2WD, as the body is designed with a narrower track width than standard short course bodies. You'll need to purchase and install Pro-Line Extended Body Mounts, Bandit-series front and rear arms, caster blocks, steering blocks, axles, King Pins, multiple turnbuckles, shorten rear drive shafts, and remove the front bumper. A step-by-step build video is available from Pro-Line demonstrating these modifications. The Team Associated DR10 offers a much simpler direct-fit option.
  • What makes this body different from other drag car shells? — This body is a fully licensed 1978 Chevrolet design based on the real-world 4,700hp, twin-turbo, 200mph+ G-body Malibu driven by Mark Micke. It features a narrower track width than traditional short course bodies, creating authentic scale proportions that look like a proper drag car rather than a generic RC shell. The combination of official Chevrolet licensing, incredible scale detail, and purpose-built drag racing design sets this apart from generic or unlicensed alternatives.
  • Does the body include everything I need to paint and decal? — Yes, the body comes with an integrated paint-then-peel overspray film, pre-cut window masks, and a detailed decal sheet. You will need to supply your own paint and painting equipment, but all the masking and decal elements are included to ensure a professional finish.
  • Can I download 3D files to customise this body further? — Yes, Pro-Line offers exclusive free 3D bonus parts available for download, including a bullhorn exhaust pipe and rear body post reposition bracket. These files can be printed on your own 3D printer or sent to online print shops like Shapeways. The rear body post reposition bracket moves the rear posts 50mm rearwards, positioning the Secure-Loc Caps on the flat trunk surface rather than in the rear windshield, resulting in a cleaner, more authentic look.
  • Is the rear spoiler included or sold separately? — The 1978 Malibu clear body and rear spoiler come together as one package, with the spoiler hardware included. The spoiler is optional to install, giving you the flexibility to run the body with or without it depending on your preferred aesthetic.
  • What is the wheelbase and overall size of this body? — The body has a 330mm (13 inch) wheelbase, 647mm (25.5 inch) length, 289mm (11.4 inch) front width, 295mm (11.6 inch) rear width, and 156mm (6.1 inch) height. These dimensions are optimised for 1/10-scale drag racing platforms and create authentic proportions compared to real drag racing vehicles.
  • Where can I get help building my Slash 2WD conversion? — Pro-Line provides a detailed step-by-step build video demonstrating all the modifications required to fit this body to a Slash 2WD. Additionally, RC Model Shop's experienced team of RC enthusiasts can provide guidance and support to help you find compatible parts and execute the build correctly.
