Simply put: Ford® GT is one of the coolest street cars ever designed, and PROTOform is proud to bring it to 190mm Touring Cars for USGT-Class racing.

From the ultra-low stance, to the teardrop-shaped cockpit, to the never-before-seen b-pillar "side wings", the Ford® GT is the ultimate expression of form following function. PROTOform has captured every detail of this mid-engine sportscar that captured GT class wins at the 2016 24h of Le Mans and back-to-back 24h of Daytona in 2017 and 2018.

Ford® GT's distinctive side wings are add-on pieces that can be secured with the included hardware, shoo-goo or high-strength double-sided tape. New lighter-weight material lowers the center of gravity of your USGT car, improving responsiveness.

Each body also includes injection molded nylon wing struts, a unique rear wing, decal sheet, window masks, and overspray film.

Simply put, the Ford GT is one of the coolest street cars ever designed, and PROTOform has done an exceptional job capturing every detail of this mid-engine masterpiece that claimed GT class victories at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans and back-to-back wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2017 and 2018. Whether you're a seasoned competitor looking for a competitive edge, a weekend racer seeking authentic scale detail, or an RC enthusiast in the UK wanting to experience precision touring car racing, this clear polycarbonate body delivers the performance and aesthetics you need.

PROTOform has established itself as the world's premiere RC racing body manufacturer, capturing an astounding 25 IFMAR World Championships and countless national, regional and local championship titles. This reputation is built on delivering the most innovative, functional and attractive on-road RC race bodies on the market. The Ford GT Light Weight clear body exemplifies this commitment to excellence, combining authentic Ford design with engineering optimised for competitive touring car performance. The new lighter-weight polycarbonate material lowers the centre of gravity of your USGT car, improving responsiveness and handling characteristics that matter in close racing situations.

This 190mm touring car body is specifically engineered to fit modern chassis platforms with low profile shock towers, including the Xray T3, AE TC6, all Awesomatix models, and Yokomo BD7, whilst offering extra clearances built-in to accommodate front and rear shock towers without interference. The body is sold as a clear, unpainted shell, ready for you to customise with paint and the included decal sheet. Made in the USA since 1982, PROTOform's manufacturing heritage ensures consistent quality and attention to detail that serious racers depend upon.

Key Features

  • Officially Licensed Ford Design — This is not a generic tribute; the Ford GT body carries official Ford licensing, ensuring authenticity that extends to every detail from the ultra-low stance to the teardrop-shaped cockpit and the distinctive never-before-seen B-pillar side wings that make this sportscar instantly recognisable.
  • Distinctive Add-On Side Wings — The Ford GT's signature side wings are injection-moulded nylon pieces that can be secured using the included hardware, shoo-goo adhesive, or high-strength double-sided tape, allowing customisation whilst maintaining structural integrity during racing.
  • Lightweight Material Construction — Manufactured from crystal-clear polycarbonate using a lighter-weight formula compared to standard bodies, this design choice directly lowers the centre of gravity of your USGT car, translating to improved responsiveness and better handling characteristics during competitive racing.
  • USGT Class Optimised — Perfectly suited for USGT-Class racing, the body geometry and clearance engineering are specifically tuned for the regulatory and competitive requirements of this popular touring car racing format.
  • Exceptional Scale Detail — Every element of the Ford GT's distinctive silhouette has been captured with meticulous attention to scale accuracy, from the proportioned bodywork to the aerodynamic elements that defined the real car's legendary performance heritage.
  • Complete Accessory Package — Beyond the clear body shell, you receive injection-moulded nylon wing struts, a uniquely designed rear wing, a decal sheet for authentic livery, precision window masks for clean painting, and paint-then-peel overspray film to ensure professional results.
  • Paint-Then-Peel Overspray Film — This innovative built-in protective system allows you to mask areas precisely during painting, then simply peel away the overspray film to reveal clean, sharp paint lines without the labour-intensive masking typically required for professional-quality bodywork.
  • Made in the USA Since 1982 — PROTOform's six-decade manufacturing heritage in the USA represents a commitment to quality control, material science innovation, and design excellence that serious RC racers recognise and trust.

Technical Performance

The Ford GT LW Clear Body is engineered with precision tolerances that demand a compatible 190mm touring car chassis platform. The body's dimensional specifications—measuring 438mm in length, 193mm in width, and 99mm in height with a 258mm wheelbase—are precisely calculated to fit modern low-profile shock tower designs while maintaining the aggressive, low stance that defines the real Ford GT's visual impact. The lightweight polycarbonate material used in this body's construction directly influences vehicle dynamics; by reducing unsprung mass and lowering the centre of gravity, the body contributes to improved responsiveness during acceleration, braking and cornering—critical factors in competitive USGT-Class racing where hundredths of a second separate winners from second place. The crystal-clear polycarbonate allows full visibility of your chassis and mechanical components whilst maintaining structural rigidity required for racing. Compatibility with chassis including the Xray T3, AE TC6, Awesomatix models and Yokomo BD7 demonstrates the body's broad appeal across different racing platforms, though it should be noted that AE TC4 and TC5 models are not compatible due to their higher shock tower profiles. The included overspray film system represents genuine innovation in body preparation, allowing professional painters to achieve competition-grade results without the traditional time-intensive masking process, making this body accessible to both experienced builders and those new to clear body preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which 190mm touring car chassis will this Ford GT body fit? — The Ford GT LW Clear Body is designed for modern 190mm touring cars with low-profile shock towers, including the Xray T3, AE TC6, all Awesomatix models, and Yokomo BD7. The body does not fit earlier platform designs such as the AE TC4 or TC5, which feature higher shock tower profiles that would cause interference.
  • Is this clear body suitable for beginners to RC racing in the UK? — Whilst the body itself is straightforward to mount onto a compatible chassis, this product requires a complete rolling chassis and some finishing work (painting and decal application). If you're new to RC touring cars, you'll need to source a separate 190mm chassis. However, if you already own a compatible platform, the body provides excellent value and the included window masks and overspray film actually make the finishing process more accessible than traditional clear body preparation.
  • What paint should I use on this polycarbonate body? — You should use polycarbonate-specific body paints formulated for RC car bodies. These specialist paints adhere properly to polycarbonate surfaces and provide the durability required for racing. Standard automotive paints may not adhere correctly. The included paint-then-peel overspray film helps prevent paint from adhering to areas you want to keep clear, making the painting process significantly easier than without it.
  • Can I use adhesive tape instead of the included hardware to secure the side wings? — Yes, PROTOform has designed the side wings to accept multiple mounting options. You can use the included hardware, shoo-goo adhesive (a rubber-based adhesive popular in RC), or high-strength double-sided tape. This flexibility allows you to choose the method that best suits your needs, whether you want permanent mounting or the ability to remove wings for storage or transport.
  • Why is this called a lightweight body, and does it make a real difference? — PROTOform's lightweight polycarbonate formula uses a thinner, lighter material compared to standard polycarbonate body shells. This directly lowers the centre of gravity of your car and reduces unsprung mass, both of which improve vehicle dynamics. In competitive USGT-Class racing where performance margins are measured in hundredths of a second, this reduction in weight and the resulting improvement in responsiveness can make a measurable difference in lap times and handling characteristics, particularly during rapid direction changes and acceleration events.
  • Is this body officially licensed by Ford? — Yes, this body carries official Ford licensing, ensuring that every detail from the proportions to the distinctive B-pillar side wings authentically represents the real Ford GT supercar that won at Le Mans and Daytona. This official licensing is a key factor that sets PROTOform bodies apart from unlicensed alternatives and provides confidence in the design accuracy.
  • What makes PROTOform bodies different from other RC body manufacturers? — PROTOform is recognised as the world's premiere RC racing body manufacturer, with an impressive history of 25 IFMAR World Championships and countless national and international racing titles across their product range. Their manufacturing excellence, commitment to innovative design, and focus on both form and function have established them as the choice for serious competitors. This Ford GT body benefits from decades of racing experience and feedback from world-class racers.
