This motor integrates seamlessly into custom builds and retrofit projects alike, making it a versatile choice for RC enthusiasts across the UK looking to upgrade or refresh their electric flight systems.

Key Features

  • Brushless Outrunner Design — This motor utilises brushless technology, which eliminates the carbon brushes found in traditional brushed motors, resulting in dramatically reduced maintenance requirements, longer operational lifespan, and superior efficiency. The outrunner configuration, where the bell rotates around the stationary core, is specifically favoured for RC aircraft applications because it produces smoother power delivery and generates less electrical noise interference with your RC receiver and telemetry systems.
  • 3720 Frame Size — The 3720 designation refers to the motor's physical dimensions, specifically a 37mm diameter stator with a 20mm height. This compact yet substantial frame size is purpose-built for parkflyer applications, providing an excellent power-to-weight ratio that prevents your aircraft from becoming nose-heavy or sluggish, whilst delivering sufficient torque for reliable propeller acceleration.
  • 800Kv Rating — The 800Kv constant means this motor will produce 800 revolutions per minute for every volt of battery input, a characteristic that sits perfectly within the parkflyer performance envelope. This moderate Kv rating provides a balanced approach to speed versus torque, allowing you to use a variety of propeller sizes without excessive strain on the motor or your electronic speed controller, and making it compatible with typical 2S and 3S LiPo battery configurations used in RC aircraft.
  • 14-Pole Stator Configuration — The 14-pole stator design represents an optimised pole count for smooth, efficient operation at the RPM ranges typical of parkflyer flight. More poles mean smoother commutation and less vibration transmitted to your airframe, contributing to stable flight characteristics and reduced stress on mounting hardware and frame components.
  • Parkflyer Motor Classification — Spektrum has classified this motor specifically for the Parkflyer category, meaning every aspect of its engineering—from thermal characteristics to power band optimisation—has been refined for lightweight, efficient RC aircraft that prioritise stability, battery endurance, and smooth controllability over maximum speed.
  • Proven Customer Reliability — With a 4 out of 5 customer rating, this motor has demonstrated real-world reliability amongst Spektrum users worldwide, giving you confidence that you're choosing a component that performs consistently and durably across diverse flying conditions and pilot skill levels.

Technical Performance

The Spektrum SPM Brushless Outrunner Motor represents the convergence of practical engineering and field-tested performance optimisation for modern RC parkflyer aircraft. The brushless outrunner configuration delivers smooth, vibration-free operation that directly translates to stable flight behaviour and superior control response during precision flying. The 3720 frame houses a carefully wound stator designed to optimise the relationship between torque production and RPM output, with the 14-pole stator providing the commutation smoothness required for demanding flight applications where pilot feedback through control inputs is paramount. At 800Kv, this motor occupies the Goldilocks zone of RC aircraft propulsion—not so high-revving that it creates harsh characteristics with modest propeller loads, yet spinning fast enough to deliver adequate thrust even with slightly larger diameter props if you're seeking more lifting power. The brushless topology eliminates brush wear, carbon dust accumulation, and the inefficiencies associated with brush contact resistance, meaning more of your battery's energy converts to useful mechanical work rather than heat dissipation. The outrunner design inherently produces lower electrical noise compared to inrunner motors, which matters significantly in RC aircraft where receiver and telemetry system interference can compromise signal integrity and cause control glitches. This motor integrates with standard RC aircraft ESC equipment commonly found in the UK market and pairs naturally with 2S and 3S LiPo battery packs that form the foundation of contemporary electric RC flight. Its thermal management characteristics allow for extended flight sessions without motor shutdown or performance degradation, provided adequate propeller matching and power management practices are observed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Spektrum SPM 3720-800Kv motor suitable for first-time RC aircraft builders? — Yes, this motor is classified specifically for parkflyer applications, making it an excellent choice for builders of all experience levels. The 800Kv rating provides forgiving characteristics that work well with a wide range of propeller sizes, and the brushless design eliminates the maintenance complexity of brushed motors, allowing you to focus on learning to fly rather than troubleshooting motor problems. First-time RC aircraft enthusiasts in the UK will appreciate that this Spektrum motor represents a straightforward, reliable power solution that enables you to concentrate on airframe construction and flight technique.
  • What battery configuration does this motor require? — The 800Kv rating makes this motor ideally suited to 2S (7.4V nominal) and 3S (11.1V nominal) LiPo battery packs, the industry-standard power sources for lightweight RC aircraft throughout the UK market. Your specific battery capacity depends on your aircraft weight, intended flight duration, and desired performance characteristics, but both 2S and 3S configurations will deliver the smooth, controllable power delivery this motor is designed to provide.
  • How does the 14-pole stator improve motor performance? — The 14-pole configuration optimises commutation smoothness by increasing the frequency at which the stator magnetic field transitions, resulting in less vibration transmitted to your aircraft structure. For RC aircraft, this translates directly to better stability, more responsive control feel, and reduced stress on airframe mounting points. The smoother operation also minimises electrical noise that could interfere with your receiver or telemetry systems, crucial considerations for reliable long-range RC flight in UK airspace.
  • What makes the outrunner configuration preferable to inrunner motors for RC aircraft? — Outrunner motors, where the bell rotates around the stationary core, produce inherently lower electrical noise and smoother power delivery than inrunner designs where the rotor spins inside a stationary bell. For RC aircraft applications, this smoothness is paramount because it directly impacts flight stability and control precision. Additionally, outrunner motors typically run cooler due to their large rotating mass providing passive thermal management, extending operational lifespan and allowing longer flying sessions before heat-related performance degradation.
  • Is this motor compatible with standard UK RC aircraft ESC equipment? — Yes, the Spektrum SPM 3720-800Kv motor is fully compatible with standard brushless electronic speed controllers designed for 2S and 3S LiPo batteries. Any reputable ESC from established RC brands stocked by UK retailers will work seamlessly with this motor, giving you flexibility in configuring your complete flight system and allowing you to match components according to your specific aircraft requirements and budget.
  • How does the brushless design compare to brushed motors for parkflyer applications? — Brushless motors eliminate the carbon brushes and commutator contacts found in brushed motors, which means zero brush wear, no carbon dust accumulation inside the motor, and dramatically extended service life. For parkflyer flying, this translates to a motor you can trust to perform reliably session after session without requiring disassembly and maintenance. Brushless technology also delivers superior efficiency, converting more battery energy into useful thrust, which extends your flight times and reduces the thermal stress on all components.
