- One Shot Protocol Support — One Shot capability is activated on these ESCs, enabling ultra-responsive throttle response with rapid command processing at rates up to 500Hz signal frequency, giving you the lightning-fast control precision demanded by competitive FPV racing and aggressive acrobatic flying.
- Opto-Isolated Design (No BEC) — The opto-isolated configuration means there is no integrated battery eliminator circuit, which reduces weight, eliminates potential electrical noise sources, and allows you to power your flight control board separately, a critical advantage for clean FPV builds where signal interference must be absolutely minimised.
- Failsafe Protection — Built-in failsafe circuitry automatically cuts motor power if signal is lost, a critical safety feature that prevents your quadcopter from continuing to fly uncontrolled if radio link is interrupted, protecting both your equipment and bystanders.
- Over-Heat Protection — Integrated thermal protection monitors ESC temperature and throttles back power delivery if controllers overheat, preventing component damage during extended high-current operations such as aggressive racing sessions or high-altitude climbs.
- Low Voltage Cutoff — Intelligent battery voltage monitoring automatically reduces throttle when your LiPo battery voltage drops too low, protecting your battery from dangerous over-discharge which can permanently damage lithium cells and create safety hazards.
- 2-4S LiPo Battery Compatibility — These ESCs are optimised to work with 2S, 3S, and 4S lithium polymer batteries, the industry standard for quadcopters, giving you flexibility in power source selection depending on your desired flight duration and motor specifications.
- Lightweight Construction — At just 6.8 grams per ESC, the total quad pack adds minimal weight to your platform, which is crucial for quadcopter performance since every gram saved allows for longer flight times, better acceleration, and improved manoeuvrability.
- Compact Form Factor — Measuring just 24.5 x 12.9 x 5.2mm per unit, these ESCs fit easily into tight frame configurations and modern compact quadcopter chassis, allowing you to build sleek, efficient platforms without compromise on performance or protection features.
- 18kHz PWM Frequency — Operating at 18kHz PWM frequency provides smooth, audibly quiet motor control compared to lower frequency alternatives, reducing the high-pitched motor whine that can be unpleasant during operation and contributing to smoother overall flight dynamics.
- 20-500Hz Signal Frequency Support — Support for signal frequencies from 20Hz up to 500Hz ensures compatibility with virtually all modern flight controllers and receiver systems, from traditional stabilised platforms to cutting-edge racing drones demanding ultra-high-frequency control loops.
Technical Performance
The BLH 20A ESC BLHeli FPV Opto Quad Pack represents the pinnacle of compact, lightweight electronic speed controller design for serious quadcopter pilots and FPV racing enthusiasts. Each of the four controllers in this UK-available package is engineered to deliver rock-solid motor control with minimal latency, featuring the renowned BLHeli firmware which has earned its reputation as the industry standard for multi-rotor applications. The 20A continuous current rating with 25A burst capability makes these ESCs suitable for quad builds using mid-range brushless motors, typically in the 2206 to 2207 size range, which represent the sweet spot for FPV racing and acrobatic flying in terms of thrust-to-weight ratio and efficiency.
The opto-isolated architecture is a critical design choice for FPV applications where electrical noise and signal integrity can make the difference between smooth, predictable flight and unpredictable oscillations that compromise safety and performance. By eliminating the BEC (battery eliminator circuit) entirely, these controllers ensure that your flight control board receives clean power from a separate battery input, a professional approach favoured in competition racing where even tiny amounts of electrical noise can degrade sensor readings. The active dampening circuitry further enhances this clean power delivery by actively smoothing current transitions and reducing voltage spikes that could corrupt gyroscope and accelerometer readings from your flight controller.
With support for signal frequencies up to 500Hz and One Shot protocol, these ESCs are future-proofed for the latest generation of flight controllers which increasingly demand rapid command processing for improved stability and responsiveness. The 18kHz PWM frequency to motors is sufficiently high to eliminate any audible motor cogging or whining, resulting in quiet operation that's far more pleasant than vintage speed controllers running at 8kHz or 12kHz. The compact 24.5 x 12.9 x 5.2mm dimensions and featherweight 6.8g construction per unit mean you can integrate these controllers into the tightest modern frames without significant weight penalties, keeping your quad platform nimble and responsive. Whether you're building a high-performance FPV racing quad, a cinematic freestyle platform, or a reliable training quadcopter, this quad pack of BLHeli ESCs provides the electronic foundation for success, with failsafe, thermal protection, and low voltage cutoff working together to keep your investment safe and your flights reliable.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What size quadcopter can these 20A ESCs power? — These 20A controllers are ideal for lightweight to medium-weight quadcopter builds, typically suitable for brushless motors in the 2206 to 2207 size range commonly used in FPV racing drones and acrobatic platforms. For larger, heavier quadcopters with bigger motors requiring 30A or higher per motor, you would need higher-rated ESCs, but for standard four-rotor racing and freestyle builds, the 20A rating provides excellent headroom with plenty of current capacity.
- Are these ESCs suitable for beginners building their first quadcopter? — Yes, absolutely. While these are professional-grade controllers, the quad pack is perfect for beginners because it eliminates the need to source four separate ESCs from different suppliers, ensuring consistency and simplifying the build process. The pre-flashed BLHeli firmware means you can connect them straight to your flight controller without needing flashing equipment, and the comprehensive protection features (failsafe, thermal cutoff, low voltage protection) actually make them safer for learning purposes.
- What battery voltage range do these ESCs support? — These ESCs are compatible with 2S, 3S, and 4S lithium polymer batteries, covering the voltage ranges from approximately 7.4V (2S) up to 16.8V (4S). This flexibility allows you to choose your battery configuration based on your desired flight duration, weight budget, and motor specifications, with 3S and 4S being the most common choices for modern FPV quadcopters.
- Why are these opto-isolated ESCs better than ESCs with built-in BEC? — Opto-isolated ESCs without a BEC eliminate a potential source of electrical noise that can interfere with sensitive flight controller sensors and radio receivers, resulting in cleaner signal paths and more stable flight. Additionally, they reduce overall weight since there's no integrated power regulation circuitry, and they allow you to power your flight control board from a dedicated battery or ESC tap, giving you complete flexibility in your power distribution architecture.
- Can I use these ESCs with my existing quadcopter flight controller? — Yes, these BLHeli ESCs are compatible with any modern flight controller that supports standard PWM input signals or OneShot protocol. The 20-500Hz signal frequency support means they'll work with legacy systems running at 20Hz through to cutting-edge racing controllers running at 500Hz, making them a universal solution for virtually any four-rotor platform you might own or build.
- What protection features do these ESCs include? — Each ESC features three critical protection mechanisms: failsafe protection that cuts motor power if signal is lost, over-heat protection that throttles back if the controller overheats, and low voltage cutoff that prevents your LiPo battery from discharging below safe levels, all working together to protect your quadcopter and keep your flights reliable and safe.
- How much do these ESCs weigh and will they affect my quad's flight time? — At just 6.8 grams per ESC, the total quad pack adds approximately 27.2 grams to your platform, which is minimal for a four-rotor system and will have negligible impact on flight time compared to heavier alternative controllers. The lightweight construction actually helps flight time by keeping your total platform weight low, allowing more efficient motor operation and longer duration per charge.
