Overview

The ARRMA Shock Set with 16mm bore and 117mm length represents a professional-grade suspension upgrade for your RC car, truck or buggy. Whether you're running an ARRMA Fireteam 6S buggy, Kraton 6S speed truck or any compatible model, this shock set delivers the responsive handling and durability that serious RC enthusiasts demand. Supplied fully assembled and pre-filled with high-quality 1000cSt silicone shock oil, this kit is designed for fast and efficient shock replacement on your vehicle, allowing you to get back to racing or bashing with minimal downtime. For RC car UK buyers seeking reliable, performance-focused suspension components, this ARRMA shock set offers excellent value and proven engineering.

What sets this shock set apart is the comprehensive tuning capability included in the package. Rather than being a simple one-size-fits-all solution, ARRMA has equipped this kit with multiple tuning piston options, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's suspension characteristics to match your driving style, track conditions or personal preferences. This level of customisation is typically found in competition-grade RC setups, making this an ideal choice for both weekend bashers who want to experiment with handling and serious competitors who demand precision control.

The construction quality is immediately apparent when you handle these shocks. The anodised aluminium shock bodies, caps and seal caps showcase ARRMA's commitment to durability and longevity, whilst the robust 4mm stainless steel shock shafts are engineered to withstand the punishing impacts and forces generated by high-speed off-road driving. Whether you're hitting jumps on a circuit, bashing through rough terrain, or competing in organised RC events across the UK, these shocks are built to perform.

Key Features

  • Fully Assembled and Ready to Install — These shocks arrive completely assembled and pre-filled with 1000cSt silicone shock oil, meaning you can bolt them straight onto your vehicle after selecting your preferred spring. This saves significant assembly time and ensures professional-quality damping from the moment you use them, eliminating the need for messy oil changes and piston installation for most users.
  • High-Quality Anodised Aluminium Construction — The shock bodies, shock caps and seal caps are manufactured from anodised aluminium, providing excellent corrosion resistance, lightweight strength and a professional appearance that will enhance your RC car's aesthetic. Anodised finishes are particularly valuable for RC vehicles that encounter moisture, mud and salt environments common in UK off-road driving.
  • Durable 4mm Stainless Steel Shock Shafts — The shock shafts are constructed from solid stainless steel with a 4mm diameter, delivering exceptional resistance to bending, breaking and corrosion. This engineering choice ensures your shocks will maintain their precision and reliability through countless bashing sessions, jumps and high-speed runs, making them a worthwhile investment in suspension durability.
  • Tough Composite Shock Rod Ends and Spring Retainers — Rather than relying solely on metal components, ARRMA employs tough composite materials for the shock rod ends and spring retainers. These materials provide the ideal balance of strength and compliance, reducing vibration transfer whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for demanding driving conditions.
  • Multiple Tuning Pistons for Suspension Customisation — This set includes four blank tuning pistons plus two 8x1.4mm hole tuning pistons and two 8x1.3mm hole tuning pistons, providing seven different piston options in total. By swapping pistons, you can adjust oil flow and damping characteristics to suit different tracks, weather conditions or driving techniques, transforming your vehicle's handling without needing to purchase additional shock kits.
  • Shock Boots for Shaft Protection — Included shock boots provide protective covers for the shock shafts, shielding them from mud, sand, water and debris that could compromise performance or cause premature wear. This simple but effective addition extends the working life of your shocks and is particularly valuable for UK off-road enthusiasts who frequently drive in wet or dirty conditions.
  • Additional Sway Bar Pivot Balls — The package includes four sway bar pivot balls, providing spare components for your vehicle's anti-roll bar system. These small but important parts can wear out with use, so having spares on hand ensures you can maintain optimal handling balance without waiting for replacement parts to arrive.
  • Premium 1000cSt Silicone Shock Oil — The shocks are pre-filled with genuine ARRMA 1000cSt silicone shock oil, a medium-viscosity damping fluid specifically formulated for RC suspension systems. This oil provides consistent damping performance across temperature ranges commonly encountered in UK driving conditions, delivering predictable handling characteristics whether you're driving on a hot summer day or in cooler autumn weather.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA Shock Set represents a significant step forward in suspension technology for 1/8 and 1/10 scale RC vehicles. With a 16mm internal bore diameter and 117mm centre-to-centre length, these shocks offer substantial damping capacity whilst maintaining compatibility with a wide range of ARRMA vehicles including the Fireteam 6S buggy, Kraton 6S 4x4 speed truck and related models. The 1.2mm x 8-hole piston specification combined with 1000cSt oil viscosity creates a baseline damping character that suits moderate to aggressive driving on mixed terrain. The engineering quality throughout is evident in every component: anodised aluminium bodies resist corrosion and provide lightweight strength, whilst 4mm stainless steel shafts eliminate the flex and wear characteristics common in smaller diameter alternatives. The composite rod ends and spring retainers absorb vibration without adding unnecessary weight, and the included tuning pistons (featuring 1.4mm, 1.3mm and blank configurations) allow drivers to progressively adjust damping rates by altering oil flow dynamics. For UK RC enthusiasts accustomed to variable weather and track conditions, this tunability is invaluable. Whether you're adjusting for a wet track, a hardpacked clay circuit, or aggressive rough terrain, the ability to swap pistons without dismantling the entire shock assembly represents a genuine performance advantage. The 1000cSt oil viscosity sits comfortably in the middle of typical RC shock oil ranges, providing sufficient damping for stability whilst maintaining enough responsiveness for precise handling control at competitive speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which ARRMA models are these shocks compatible with? — According to ARRMA's official fitment information, these 16mm bore, 117mm length shocks are designed as standard parts for the ARA7618 Fireteam 6S 4x4 RTR brushless buggy, ARA106053 Kraton 6S 4x4 roller brushless speed truck, ARA8608V5 Kraton 6S 4x4 RTR brushless speed truck, ARA8708V6 Kraton 6S EXB 4x4 RTR brushless speed truck, and ARA8708T1 Kraton 6S EXB AVC 4x4 RTR brushless speed truck. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle before purchasing.
  • Are these shocks suitable for beginners? — Yes, these shocks are excellent for beginners because they arrive fully assembled and pre-filled, requiring no complex maintenance or setup. However, the real strength for beginner users lies in the included tuning pistons: beginners can start with the standard 1.2mm piston and experiment with alternative pistons as they gain experience, allowing progressive learning about suspension tuning without purchasing additional components.
  • What makes the tuning pistons useful for RC drivers? — The tuning pistons control oil flow through the shock, directly affecting how much resistance the suspension provides. The blank pistons (maximum oil flow) create softer, more compliant damping, whilst the 1.4mm and 1.3mm hole pistons progressively restrict oil flow for firmer, more responsive damping. By swapping pistons, you can adjust your vehicle's handling without buying new shocks, making this set excellent value for drivers who want to experiment with suspension setup.
  • How does the 1000cSt oil viscosity compare to other options? — 1000cSt sits in the medium range of RC shock oil viscosities. Lighter oils (like 500cSt) provide more responsive, compliant suspension suitable for smooth tracks, whilst heavier oils (like 1500cSt or 2000cSt) deliver firmer damping for rough terrain or high-speed racing. The 1000cSt specification represents a balanced choice that performs well across varied conditions, making it ideal for UK drivers who encounter different track types and weather conditions.
  • Do I need to replace the shock oil? — The shocks arrive pre-filled with quality 1000cSt silicone oil, so you can use them immediately without any oil changes. However, over extended use, shock oil can degrade or leak out, necessitating replacement. The modular design allows you to refill or change oil if needed, though this is a maintenance task rather than a requirement for initial use.
  • What is the difference between assembled and unassembled shock sets? — This ARRMA set is fully assembled, meaning the shock bodies, shafts, pistons and oil are all pre-installed and ready to bolt onto your vehicle. Unassembled kits require you to install the piston, fill the shock body with oil and assemble components yourself — a time-consuming process requiring specialised knowledge. The assembled approach here saves significant time and ensures professional damping from the start.
  • Are these shocks waterproof for wet weather driving? — Whilst the sealed design provides good protection against mud and light water splashing, these shocks are not rated as fully waterproof submerged components. The shock boots included in the package provide additional shaft protection, making them suitable for typical UK wet and muddy off-road conditions, though extended water submersion should be avoided.
  • Can I use different oil viscosities in these shocks? — Yes, the shocks can be refilled with alternative oil viscosities if you choose to experiment with damping characteristics. However, the included 1000cSt oil is ARRMA's recommended specification for these shock sizes and piston configurations, providing the optimal balance of performance and durability. Always use genuine silicone shock oil rather than substitutes.
