Overview

The ARRMA 27T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear (Z-ARA311089) is a precision-engineered component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their RC car upgrades. This CNC-machined steel pinion gear is manufactured to exacting standards by ARRMA, a brand recognised worldwide for producing high-quality RC vehicles and replacement parts. Whether you're upgrading your existing RC car in the UK or building a custom setup, this pinion gear delivers the durability and precision engineering that competitive RC drivers and weekend bashers alike depend on.

Pinion gears are critical drivetrain components in any RC car, transmitting power from the motor to the main drivetrain. The quality of your pinion gear directly impacts acceleration, top speed potential, and overall drivetrain efficiency. By choosing a precision CNC steel pinion gear like this ARRMA part, you're investing in a component that has been machined to tight tolerances for smooth mesh with your spur gear, reduced noise, and extended lifespan. This makes it an essential upgrade for anyone serious about their RC car UK hobby, whether you're running a buggy, truck, or other 1/8 scale vehicle.

The 27-tooth configuration makes this pinion gear suitable for a variety of gearing setups, allowing you to fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics. With the correct pinion and spur gear combination, you can optimise your vehicle for either maximum speed or better acceleration and torque delivery, depending on your racing conditions and driving style.

Key Features

  • CNC Steel Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from hardened steel using computer numerical control (CNC) machining, ensuring consistent tooth profile and bore dimensions across every unit, which means reliable performance and longer service life compared to injection-moulded alternatives.
  • 27-Tooth Count — The 27-tooth configuration provides a balanced setup for 1/8 scale RC cars, offering a versatile mid-range gearing option that can be paired with various spur gear sizes to achieve your desired performance characteristics.
  • 0.8 Module (Mod) Pitch — The 0.8Mod gear pitch is the standard specification for many 1/8 scale RC cars and buggies, ensuring perfect compatibility with OEM and aftermarket spur gears designed to the same specification.
  • 1/8 Inch Bore — The 3.2mm bore diameter (equivalent to 1/8 inch) is the standard shaft size for most 1/8 scale RC car motors, making this a drop-in replacement or upgrade for your existing setup.
  • Precision Engineering — Every tooth is machined to exacting tolerances, which provides smooth mesh with your spur gear, reduces drivetrain noise, improves efficiency, and extends the lifespan of both the pinion and spur gears.
  • ARRMA Quality — As an official ARRMA component, this pinion gear meets the high standards expected from a leading RC vehicle manufacturer, backed by their reputation for reliability and performance in the RC hobby.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA 27T 0.8Mod CNC Steel Pinion Gear represents professional-grade component engineering optimised for 1/8 scale RC vehicles. The CNC steel construction provides superior durability compared to standard metal-injection moulded gears, with a hardened tooth profile that resists wear even under extreme driving conditions. The precise 0.8 module pitch ensures perfect compatibility with standard ARRMA spur gears and those from other manufacturers using the same specification. With a 3.2mm (1/8 inch) bore, this gear is designed for motors with standard 1/8 scale RC car shaft sizes. The 27-tooth count represents a popular mid-range configuration that provides balanced performance across various driving conditions. Whether you're running on-road buggies, off-road buggies, or truck platforms, the correct pinion and spur gear pairing using this 27T option allows you to optimise your acceleration-to-top-speed ratio. In racing applications, pinion selection can mean the difference between winning and losing, as it directly affects how power is delivered from motor to wheels. The precision CNC manufacturing ensures minimal runout and tooth deflection, which keeps mesh noise low and drivetrain efficiency high, ultimately translating to better handling characteristics and more predictable vehicle behaviour during competitive runs or casual bashing sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to upgrade it? — A pinion gear is the small gear attached to your RC car's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear to transmit power to the drivetrain. Upgrading to a precision CNC steel pinion gear like this ARRMA part improves durability, reduces noise, increases drivetrain efficiency, and provides more consistent performance compared to lower-grade alternatives, which is especially important in competitive racing or high-speed driving.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a professional-grade component, it is suitable for any RC enthusiast looking to upgrade their drivetrain. Beginners may want to start with understanding their current gearing setup and consulting with experienced RC drivers at your local club or UK RC community before making pinion and spur gear changes, as gearing adjustments significantly affect vehicle performance.
  • What is the difference between the 27T and other tooth counts in the ARRMA pinion gear range? — Different tooth counts provide different performance characteristics. Lower tooth counts (like 16T, 18T) allow the motor to spin faster, resulting in higher top speeds but potentially less acceleration. Higher tooth counts (like 29T) provide better acceleration and torque but lower top speeds. The 27T is a mid-range option offering balanced performance. Your choice depends on your specific vehicle type, motor KV rating, and whether you're optimising for speed or acceleration.
  • What motor sizes work with this pinion gear? — This pinion gear is compatible with any 1/8 scale RC car motor that uses a 3.2mm (1/8 inch) shaft diameter. Most standard ARRMA 1/8 scale vehicles and motors from other manufacturers using this bore size will work perfectly with this gear.
  • How do I know if my car needs a new pinion gear? — Signs that your pinion gear may need replacement include visible wear or chipping on the teeth, increased drivetrain noise, or inconsistent power delivery. Regular inspection as part of maintenance is recommended for competitive drivers who run frequently.
  • Is this gear compatible with non-ARRMA vehicles? — Yes, provided your vehicle uses a 0.8 module pitch specification and has a motor with a 3.2mm bore. The 0.8Mod pitch is an industry standard for many 1/8 scale buggies and trucks, so this ARRMA gear will work with compatible vehicles from other manufacturers.
  • What is the 0.8Mod specification? — Module (Mod) is a metric measurement system for gear teeth pitch. 0.8Mod means the tooth pitch distance is 0.8mm per tooth. This specification must match your spur gear for smooth, quiet operation and proper mesh. Most 1/8 scale RC cars use 0.8Mod or 1.0Mod specifications.
