Overview
The Spektrum S6020 is a high-torque, mid-speed digital servo designed to deliver impressive performance in demanding RC applications. With 146 oz-in of torque at 6V, this servo is ideally suited for 1/10-scale trucks and cars where reliability and power are essential. Whether you're building a competitive RC car or a weekend basher, the S6020 offers the precision and durability you need to tackle the toughest terrain. This brushed digital servo combines classic reliability with modern performance, making it a popular choice among RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand quality components for their vehicles.
The S6020 stands out in the crowded servo market by offering a perfect balance between torque and speed for mid-range applications. Unlike high-speed servos that sacrifice power, or extremely slow torque monsters that limit responsiveness, the S6020 sits in the sweet spot for 1/10-scale RC truck and car use. Its digital control system ensures that your inputs are translated into smooth, precise movements, giving you the confidence to push your RC car to its limits. For anyone serious about their RC car UK setup, choosing quality components like this servo means the difference between consistent performance and frustrating mid-race failures.
Built with heavy-duty engineering in mind, the S6020 features a robust metal gear train that can withstand the punishment of aggressive driving. The dual ball-bearing output shaft reduces friction and wear, extending the lifespan of your servo whilst maintaining that silky-smooth precision that experienced drivers demand. This is not a budget servo – it's a quality component from Spektrum, a recognised leader in RC electronics, and it's backed by proven reliability in the field.
Key Features
- 146 oz-in torque at 6V — This exceptional torque output affords impressive performance in the toughest applications, allowing your RC car to maintain servo authority even under extreme steering loads, which is essential for competitive driving and off-road bashers.
- Digital servo control — The precise digital control system ensures accurate positioning and faster response times compared to analogue servos, translating directly to improved handling and more predictable vehicle behaviour on track or trail.
- Dual ball-bearing output shaft — These precision bearings provide significantly less resistance than standard friction bearings, resulting in higher performance, smoother operation, and extended servo lifespan during intensive use.
- Heavy-duty metal gear train — The all-metal gear construction delivers superior durability and strength compared to plastic alternatives, enabling the servo to withstand the continuous shock loads and impact forces typical in RC racing and off-road driving.
- Mid-speed performance profile — With a speed rating of 0.19 seconds at 6V, this servo offers responsive control without sacrificing the torque needed for reliable steering authority in demanding conditions.
- Brushed motor design — The proven brushed motor technology provides reliable, predictable performance characteristics that experienced RC drivers appreciate for their smooth power delivery and robustness.
- Standard size servo format — Compatible with most 1/10-scale RC trucks and cars, the standard servo size fits easily into existing servo bays without requiring custom modifications to your chassis.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum S6020 represents a refined approach to servo design, combining time-tested brushed motor technology with digital control electronics to deliver consistent performance across a range of operating conditions. At 4.8V, the servo produces 7.20 kg/cm of torque and operates at 0.23 seconds per 60 degrees, whilst at the higher 6V supply, performance improves to 10.5 kg/cm and 0.19 seconds per 60 degrees – a meaningful improvement that makes 6V systems more attractive for competitive applications. The servo's physical dimensions of 41mm length, 39mm height, and 20mm width make it a true standard-size servo, fitting seamlessly into the servo bays of virtually all mainstream 1/10-scale RC trucks and cars available in the UK market. Weighing just 49 grams, the S6020 adds minimal mass to your vehicle whilst delivering substantial torque output. The metal gear construction is engineered to handle continuous duty cycles without the wear issues that plague plastic-geared alternatives, and the dual ball-bearing output shaft reduces friction losses that would otherwise rob you of responsiveness. The combination of brushed motor reliability with digital control precision makes this servo suitable for both racing applications where consistency matters and recreational bashers where durability under abuse is paramount. Power compatibility spans both 4.8V and 6V operating voltages, with most RC car users finding that upgrading to 6V dramatically improves performance without requiring any servo modifications or re-programming.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Spektrum S6020 good for beginners to RC cars? — The S6020 is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced drivers alike. Its straightforward digital control and proven reliability mean there's no complicated programming or setup required – it works reliably out of the box. The generous torque output also provides forgiving steering authority, making it easier for newer drivers to control their RC car without oversteering or losing vehicle control.
- What voltage should I run this servo at for best performance? — Whilst the S6020 operates perfectly at 4.8V, upgrading to 6V delivers significantly better performance with increased torque (10.5 kg/cm vs 7.20 kg/cm) and faster response time (0.19 seconds vs 0.23 seconds). Most experienced RC drivers recommend 6V operation for the best balance of performance, and it requires no modifications to the servo itself – just a higher-voltage battery pack.
- How does the S6020 compare to other servos in its class? — The S6020 occupies a sweet spot between high-speed servos and extremely high-torque alternatives. Its 0.19-second speed at 6V provides responsive steering control, whilst the 146 oz-in torque output ensures you never run out of servo authority. The metal gear construction and digital control system put it ahead of budget alternatives, whilst its mid-range positioning makes it more affordable than specialist competition servos.
- Will this servo work with my existing RC car? — The S6020 is a standard servo size compatible with virtually all 1/10-scale RC trucks and cars. If your vehicle currently has a servo installed, the S6020 will fit in the same servo bay. Just ensure your receiver can drive standard digital servos and that your power system can supply either 4.8V or 6V to operate it correctly.
- How reliable is the metal gear design for off-road bashers? — The all-metal gear construction is specifically engineered for durability under the punishing conditions of off-road driving. Compared to plastic gears that can crack or wear quickly, metal gears are far more resistant to impact loads and continuous operation, making the S6020 an excellent investment for serious bashing applications where servo reliability directly impacts your ability to keep driving.
- What makes the dual ball-bearing output shaft important? — Ball bearings reduce friction significantly compared to friction bearings or sleeve bearings, which means less wasted energy and smoother operation. This translates to faster response times, reduced wear on the servo mechanism, and a longer overall lifespan before the servo requires maintenance or replacement – a meaningful benefit when you're investing in quality components.
