Overview

The Spektrum A7100 MT/MS Metal Gear HV Wing Servo represents a pinnacle of precision engineering designed specifically for thin wing aircraft models and sailplanes. This high-voltage capable servo delivers exceptional performance that sets the standard for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. Whether you're piloting a competition-grade sailplane or a sophisticated wing aircraft, the A7100 offers the reliability, consistency and performance that Spektrum is renowned for. This servo has been engineered to meet the exacting demands of pilots who refuse to compromise on quality or precision.

The A7100 stands out in the crowded marketplace of RC servos because it combines raw performance with meticulous attention to detail. Its specifically tailored design for thin wing applications means it excels where general-purpose servos fall short. The servo features a robust all-metal gear train, coreless motor technology, and bearing-supported drivetrain that work in concert to deliver smooth, precise control movements that competitive pilots demand. If you're searching for a high-performance thin wing servo for RC aircraft in the UK, the A7100 is an investment in reliability that will serve you well through countless flights and seasons.

Every aspect of this servo's construction reflects Spektrum's commitment to excellence. From its aluminium servo case that keeps operating temperatures low, to its low-wear metal gear drive train and exceptional precision, the A7100 is built to perform in demanding conditions. The servo operates at 200Hz to 333Hz frequency, ensuring crisp, responsive control that translates directly to improved flight performance.

Key Features

  • High Voltage (HV) Capable — The A7100 operates across an impressive 4.8V to 8.4V input range, allowing you to harness maximum power when running higher voltage battery configurations. This flexibility means you can scale your power delivery to match your specific aircraft requirements.
  • Exceptional Mid-Torque Performance — Producing 8.3kg-cm (115 oz-in) of torque at 8.4V, this servo delivers the pulling power needed for thin wing applications without excessive weight or size penalties that compromise aircraft performance.
  • Class-Leading Speed — With a response time of just 0.078 seconds per 60 degrees at 8.4V input, the A7100 offers responsive control that translates to more precise flight characteristics and better handling in challenging conditions.
  • All-Metal Gear Train — The low-wear, tightly meshed all-metal gear construction ensures durability and longevity even under continuous use. Metal gears outperform nylon alternatives in terms of wear resistance and torque handling capacity.
  • Coreless Motor Technology — The durable, long-lasting coreless motor provides smooth power delivery without the cogging or hesitation that can affect control quality, resulting in fluid servo movements for superior flight control.
  • Ball Bearing Supported Drivetrain — Full bearing support throughout the drivetrain maximises smooth operation and reduces friction, extending the servo's operational lifespan whilst maintaining consistent performance across all flight regimes.
  • Aluminium Servo Case — The robust aluminium construction actively helps keep operating temperatures low during extended flight sessions, protecting internal components and maintaining consistent performance even in warm conditions.
  • Full Precision Engineering — Low deadband and extraordinary precision characteristics mean your control inputs are translated faithfully to the control surfaces, giving you the response you expect when you expect it.
  • Over Current and Temperature Protection — Built-in safety features protect the servo from damage caused by excessive loads or thermal stress, providing peace of mind during demanding flights.
  • 200Hz to 333Hz Operating Frequency — The servo's wide operating frequency range ensures compatibility with virtually all modern RC radio systems and allows for optimisation based on your specific equipment and preferences.

Technical Performance

The Spektrum A7100 represents the convergence of aeronautical engineering principles and servo technology. At its heart lies a coreless motor paired with a completely all-metal gear train that has been designed and tuned for reliability and precision. The bearing-supported drive train isn't merely a luxury feature—it's a critical component that enables smooth, consistent servo movement essential for maintaining control authority in thin wing aircraft. The aluminium servo case serves a dual purpose: it provides structural rigidity to house the precision mechanisms whilst actively dissipating heat away from the servo's core components. This thermal management becomes increasingly important during extended competition flights or in warmer climates common across many regions of the UK and Europe.

Performance figures tell the story of meticulous engineering. At 8.4V input, the servo produces 115 oz-in of torque whilst achieving a 0.078-second transit time per 60 degrees. This combination of speed and power is specifically calibrated for thin wing aircraft where servo response and precision directly translate to flight performance. The servo maintains low deadband characteristics, meaning the dead zone between neutral and control input is minimised, allowing pilots to exploit every ounce of control surface authority. The operating frequency range of 200Hz to 333Hz provides flexibility for system integration and allows experienced pilots to fine-tune responsiveness to match their particular aircraft dynamics and radio equipment. The high-voltage capability is particularly valuable, as modern battery technology allows sustained high-voltage operation, unlocking the full performance potential of this servo.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Spektrum A7100 suitable for thin wing sailplane applications? — Yes, the A7100 has been specifically engineered for thin wing aircraft and sailplanes. The combination of low weight, responsive control, and precision engineering makes it an ideal choice for these demanding applications where servo performance directly impacts flight characteristics.
  • What voltage should I run the A7100 servo at for optimal performance? — The servo is capable of operating anywhere from 4.8V to 8.4V, with optimal performance achieved at the higher end of this range. Running at 8.4V provides the full 115 oz-in torque rating and fastest 0.078 second per 60-degree response time. However, you should match the voltage to your aircraft's power system and radio equipment specifications.
  • How does the A7100 compare to other Spektrum servo models? — The A7100 is specifically designed as a mid-torque, mid-speed servo targeted at thin wing applications, making it distinct from Spektrum's standard-sized aircraft servos. Its all-metal gear train, coreless motor, and bearing-supported drivetrain represent premium engineering suited for competitive flying rather than casual sport flying.
  • What makes the metal gear construction superior to nylon gears? — Metal gears exhibit significantly better wear resistance, can handle higher sustained torque loads, maintain dimensional stability over extended use, and provide more consistent performance throughout the servo's operational lifespan. This makes them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts and competitors.
  • Is the A7100 compatible with all RC radio systems? — The A7100 features a universal servo connector and 200Hz to 333Hz operating frequency range, making it compatible with virtually all modern RC radio systems. However, you should verify that your specific radio system supports the servo's operating frequency.
  • How important is the aluminium case for servo performance? — The aluminium case provides both structural integrity and thermal management. By actively dissipating heat away from internal components, it helps maintain consistent performance during extended flight sessions and in warmer operating conditions, which is particularly important for competition flying.
  • What is deadband and why does low deadband matter? — Deadband is the neutral zone where small control inputs produce no servo movement. Low deadband means more responsive control authority, allowing pilots to use the full range of control surface movement more efficiently and maintain finer control over their aircraft.
  • Can I use the A7100 on a 3S LiPo battery? — No, a 3S LiPo battery typically delivers approximately 11.1V nominal voltage, which exceeds the servo's maximum 8.4V rating. You must use battery configurations that deliver between 4.8V and 8.4V to avoid damaging the servo.
