Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Spektrum GPS Telemetry Sensor suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The sensor's plug-and-play design requires no calibration, making it ideal for beginners who want to add telemetry capability without complex setup. If you already have a Spektrum receiver with X-Bus support or a compatible telemetry module, installation is straightforward and can be completed in minutes.
  • What voltage does the GPS Telemetry Sensor require? — The sensor operates on input voltages between 3.3V and 12.6V, making it compatible with a wide range of battery configurations including single-cell, multi-cell LiPo, and other standard RC power systems. This flexibility ensures it will work with most modern RC vehicles.
  • What information does this sensor provide? — The sensor delivers four key data streams: location (GPS coordinates), ground speed (your model's current velocity), altitude above mean sea level (height), and distance from home (direct distance back to your starting point). This comprehensive data set gives you complete awareness of your model's performance and position.
  • Is the sensor waterproof? — Yes. The water- and dust-proof case design protects the sensor's electronics from moisture, rain, and dust, making it suitable for operation in wet conditions and dusty outdoor environments across the UK.
  • Which telemetry modules and receivers does this sensor work with? — The GPS Telemetry Sensor is compatible with TM1000 and TM1500 telemetry modules, as well as all telemetry-integrated receivers featuring X-Bus connector interfaces. Check your receiver's specifications to confirm X-Bus compatibility before purchasing.
  • Can I use this on both RC planes and RC cars? — Yes, this is one of the sensor's key strengths. It's designed to work equally well on air applications (aeroplanes, drones, helicopters) and surface applications (RC cars, buggies, trucks), making it a versatile choice for multi-faceted RC enthusiasts.
  • How does this help with performance tuning? — Real-time ground speed data from the sensor is invaluable for tuning models to achieve maximum performance. You can instantly see the impact of setup changes (gear ratios, aerodynamic modifications, suspension adjustments) on your actual speed figures, allowing data-driven optimisation.
  • What makes this better than GPS modules without telemetry integration? — Unlike standalone GPS modules, this Spektrum sensor integrates seamlessly into the Spektrum telemetry ecosystem, transmitting data wirelessly to your transmitter via compatible receivers and modules. You get live data on your radio's screen rather than having to download logs after the fact, enabling real-time monitoring and immediate feedback.
